Gus Wortham Park Golf Course
About
Texas' oldest existing 18-hole track was originally built in 1908 to serve members of Houston Country Club. When the club found a new location in the 1950s, Gus Wortham bought the facility and opened it to the public with $60 annual dues. The city of Houston took over in 1973, and it's been one of the busiest courses in the state ever since.
The unique design features a trio of par 5s on holes 2-4, a rarity in golf. One of the better birdie opportunities is the 293-yard No. 9. On the back, one of Texas' signature par 3s awaits in the 250-yard No. 16.
Getting there : From I-45, take the Wakeside Blvd. Exit and travel 1 mile north to Capitol St.

Incredible greens!
Tee'd off at noon and the weather was perfect and the course was even better! Kinda crowded as we had to wait on the group ahead of us and felt like we were being pushed by the group behind us. The marshals were very friendly. The greens were incredible! Not a bald spot all day. I will play here again.
Thanx HGA
HGA has done a fabulous job bringing back Gus! Greens were super fast and true. Fairways are fast and tightly mowed which makes the track playable from the back tees. Sand traps are playable which says a lot for a public course.
Hoping that they get the rest of this project completed soon because the parking lot needs work and no clubhouse to eat a good burger would really complete a good round.
HGA you need to consider another project! It’s obvious you what your doing. Maybe Brock??
Thin fairways
What is it with courses in Houston and thin fairways? Let the grass grow! Or learn how to grow it. Or higher greens keepers that know how. .
HISTORY
Playing a golf course where Harry Vardon (6 time British Open Champion) and Ted Ray played a 107 years ago is a walk or should I say a ride into history.
Thanks HGA for bringing this gem back to life.
Great course!
The course is in great condition! Fun round of golf with both challenging and score able holes. Would recommend
Great course
Great course. Top 5 in Houston. Only lacks clubhouse and a paved parking lot. Also could use a drink cart since there are no water jugs available
Marshall v Cart Path Enforcer
The course was in excellent condition. The problem we experienced was there was no Marshall on the course. There was a 4some 2 groups ahead that had 2 holes open in front of them and a single behind them that they didn't let through. By the time we reached the par 3 fifth there were now 3 groups on the hole and it remained that way the entire round. In addition, on holes 12 and 13 which are short par 4's they have moved the cart directional signs 100 yards from the greens All decent drives on these holes put you less then 50 yards in. There was a greens keeper with a bad attitude getting on every that passed these signs even if we were in the rough. I understand that cart path rules need to be followed (even if they require you to walk 50 to 80 yard each way) but they need someone that knows how to talk to there guests.
Beautiful Course
Love this course. The course is an old school reworked gem. Obviously the clubhouse is still coming but the greens are great. Course could use a little water. Hopefully we get some rain soon.
