Gus Wortham Park Golf Course
About
Texas' oldest existing 18-hole track was originally built in 1908 to serve members of Houston Country Club. When the club found a new location in the 1950s, Gus Wortham bought the facility and opened it to the public with $60 annual dues. The city of Houston took over in 1973, and it's been one of the busiest courses in the state ever since.
The unique design features a trio of par 5s on holes 2-4, a rarity in golf. One of the better birdie opportunities is the 293-yard No. 9. On the back, one of Texas' signature par 3s awaits in the 250-yard No. 16.
Getting there : From I-45, take the Wakeside Blvd. Exit and travel 1 mile north to Capitol St.

This is probably one of the best public courses in Houston. The fairways are narrow, the greens were really fast., and moguls everywhere!!
The pace of play was 4 hours exactly for our foursome. I’d definitely recommend this course. I’ll be back!!
Greens were fantastic. As good a public course in the Houston area that I’ve played.
Gus is Great!
Played Gus on a Thursday PM hot deal and the course did not disappoint. It was in excellent shape and the greens were firm and fast. Saw maintenance work being performed on the course & you could see the results of the staff's work Keep it up guys! Only draw back was no drink cart running,, bummer. So take you something to drink with you to be safe.
Never disappoints
Great public course in Houston. well kept and slightly challenging. Great value for money as well.
Hidden Gem you should play!
This is such a great course. Best greens I’ve played all summer. When the clubhouse gets built it will be a 5 star, as long as theirs security in the parking lot everything’s good.
The course is in good condition..
The course is in good condition and the greens are in very good condition. It is the longest 6,400 yard course I have ever played. The wind made it harder and longer. It was fun to play. The only downside was the pace of play was slow.
Really fun course
Inside the loop, it goes up and down with elevation changes. In great shape.
Good layout
Enjoyed the course. Good layout with varied holes from easy to difficult. It was in great shape. Good fairways and greens were very good.
Great course crappy management
Whoever rebuilt the course did a great job - too bad they didn't stick around. First thing Houston Golf Association, the new management, did was raise rates, stop spending money and divide up all the profits among themselves. The City dug the mine, the HSA management gets the gold..
Been open for two years and no one has cleaned up the brush or the bayous or the brutal potholed asphalt. The face of the club, the starter, is arrogant and unhelpful, The "facilities" is a portapottty, the "clubhouse" is a tent. The cheapskates won't get a beer or food permit or cart girl so the food and drink is what you bring in a cooler, They take advantage of the virus by charging double for a cart unless you double up. Gus Wortham is without a doubt the most golfer un-friendly course in Harris County.
If all you want is 18 good holes, this is a good place. Just get in and get out,
Nice Day out but HOT!
Nice course, I am a 20+ Handicapper, so a couple of those ditches are just perfect for my drive!!
Good condition, pace of play was very fast.
Will most likely play again
Great course
So much character. The elevation changes for course inside the loop! Not long but doesn't need to be. Great fun.
Great Layout and course is in pretty good shape but showing some wear from heat and heavy play. Very limited facilities. Starters need to speed up play not slow it down at tee box. Had to wait 30 minutes because other group ahead of mine haven't arrived and first tee was open for my group. Very frustrating when it is 100 F and with Covid.
Great Course
Beautiful course and cheap compared to others. Clubhouse and roads getting there are not nice but the course more than makes up for it.
