Gus Wortham Park Golf Course
About
Texas' oldest existing 18-hole track was originally built in 1908 to serve members of Houston Country Club. When the club found a new location in the 1950s, Gus Wortham bought the facility and opened it to the public with $60 annual dues. The city of Houston took over in 1973, and it's been one of the busiest courses in the state ever since.
The unique design features a trio of par 5s on holes 2-4, a rarity in golf. One of the better birdie opportunities is the 293-yard No. 9. On the back, one of Texas' signature par 3s awaits in the 250-yard No. 16.
Getting there : From I-45, take the Wakeside Blvd. Exit and travel 1 mile north to Capitol St.

Best in the area
This course was redone and is excellent. Great bunkers, soft fairways and very good greens. Course isn't flat so it has some challenges. Club selection come into play on most holes.
Keeps getting better
This is the 3rd time I've played here since they re-opened and each time it gets more mature and lush, It may be the best conditioned course in Houston. Has always been a great layout. Good job HGA. Would be nice if those playing would learn to use a divot repair tool.
Hidden gem
This is a beautiful course that’s been redone. It’s a classic old school walkers course. I personally think it’s great. They are still in temporary clubhouse so no great amenities. But if your looking for a hisdwn gemstone near the city this will not disappoints.
Diamond in Da Hood
This course was recently redone and is in great shape with a nice layout. Greens great!! Good views of the city!! No clubhouse but otherwise great value!!
Awesome Course
Greatest jewel in houston! Keep up the great work! Everyone need to try!!! You will love it.
Great experience
Course was in excellent condition!! Pace of play great and I was paired up with two other out of towers! We shot in low 80’s from tips! Very good challenge!! I do plan to return ASAP!!!
Great Course Inside the Loop
With all the public courses closing down in Houston, it's nice to have Gus back again! The remodel has been a huge success so far. The fairways are nearly perfect, the greens roll true, and even the bunkers are inviting. The location and value can't be beat for someone looking to play near downtown.
Inner city gem
Gus Wortham has returned to its Glory days. The course is in great condition and the green are some the best in town. The redisign are suttle changes. Not taken from the great history of this course. Can't wait to see the club house when it's built. I really enjoyed my round I will be back soon.
Awesome coure!
I play this course every week! It's my home course. The HGA has invested a lot of money into the course and is has paid off. The fairways and greens are in great shape and the course is fun to play. They are in process of building a clubhouse and event building but for now they are makeshift trailers.I'm attaching a picture of 'Howard Hughes Hole.' If you care to read the story, it's up on my blog. www.birdiesandbliss.com
Poleshed Gem in Houston
Renovations make this one of the best municipal courses I've played. Smooth greens and prestine fairways for a city choose and the price.
A Powerful New Improved Golf Course
Played this course over 75 times before the renovation, was ask to play in a fore some with a friend of mine , OMG This Golf course is Absolutely beautiful ,awesome greens the best I’ve seen in Houston, layout is perfect, sand traps an bunkers were exceptional an The scenery is absolutely gorgeous,The new golf carts were also a great addition to this well kept golf course,I tip my hat to the staff who were courteous, cant wait for the new clubhouse
Conditions Great, Pace Management could be better
As a first timer to the course I enjoyed layout, condition, upkeep is great, bunkers are filled and soft, greens are kept a little long but roll true. Only issue was that at a public course that has all levels of golfers, closer attention should be paid to pace of play and groups that are not playing at a reasonable pace (hitting multiple balls, not playing ready golf). Otherwise good experience, would recommend.
Worth it
I had heard about the renovations done to the course. You have to navigate to get to the course but I felt it was worth it. Leave your valuables at home lock your car and go play. Great greens, great sand, an old school walkers layout. I’ll be back. Thanks Golf Now!
The "New and much improved " Gus
I enjoy the new layout!! Still challenging, but a scoreable course. I recommend playing it, and taking in the new look. Me and my regular 3some will be out there regularly. Love the course and new aesthetics!!
Course setup
I prefer golf courses setup where movement goes forward from hole to hole 'till the end, without doing any reverse or circling around to find the next hole. Other than that, the course was the cleanest and challenging with wavy fairways. I'll play there again.
Love Gus Wortham
Great course, ease of play, challenging, greens in good shape
