Gus Wortham Park Golf Course
About
Texas' oldest existing 18-hole track was originally built in 1908 to serve members of Houston Country Club. When the club found a new location in the 1950s, Gus Wortham bought the facility and opened it to the public with $60 annual dues. The city of Houston took over in 1973, and it's been one of the busiest courses in the state ever since.
The unique design features a trio of par 5s on holes 2-4, a rarity in golf. One of the better birdie opportunities is the 293-yard No. 9. On the back, one of Texas' signature par 3s awaits in the 250-yard No. 16.
Getting there : From I-45, take the Wakeside Blvd. Exit and travel 1 mile north to Capitol St.

Great slops
Great lay out, nice slops, some greens need a little care
Best score of the season
This is a friendly, adequate course. I played alone and was able to really concentrate on my game and get a decent score (for me: 92).
I'm visiting Houston from NYC, and can honestly say, there is NO place in my area that would allow such a peaceful, pleasant, fun round.
GREAT VALUE!
Great course for the value (under $15 for a weekend afternoon tee time)! One of the few courses in Houston area with decent elevations changes with nice scenery. The course can be muddy at times, but I've seen worse. A few Par 4's play really short and offer great birdie or eagle opportunities.
The greens are decent and the sand traps were flooded when I played. Some sections of the cart path are in pretty bad shape. The driving range is decent and their bbq sandwiches are a great snack as you're making the turn...you have to try it at least once.
The facilities are a bit outdated, but I believe they're due for a renovation in the coming years.
Overall, this was my fourth time playing this course so far this year and it has quickly become one of my favorite courses to work on my game.
Don't waste your time and money!
I've played from California to Florida to Mexico. I've never seen or played a worse course.
Get your act together!!
Great Staff
Course is fun with good challenges but not unreasonable. Pace of play was excellent .
Great value!!
Nice course, with ups and downs, and small greens with breaks.
Still a good round of golf
This is a great fairly open course, that is also a municipal course. It is really well maintained for a city course. There are a couple of greens that are in a repair process. There was a foursome playing VERY SLOW and the marshall finally asked them to let two groups pass them by.
Nice round of golf
Had a 1:00 tee time and it was hot as Hades. Other than that had a great time at GW. The tee boxes and fairways were in very good shape. The greens were too with a couple of exceptiona. The elevation changes really make this course interesting and fresh. A very good value for the money. Will definitely be returning.
Poor course
Staff was friendly.
We started at 12:45 and the Sprinklers were on thru out the course.
Not good
It was cheap for a reason
I've played Gus Wortham many times over the years. I hadn't been there in a while. the course was in really bad shape. Unmowed greens, dried out fairways. The clubhouse had no power because a transformer blew. The kitchen was closed. I would not recommend the course.
Good Course
B+B+ will play again. Need to send the beverage cart every 30 min it was hot there and sale alcohol!!!
Ol Gus
Terrific course, great value for a round. Highly recommend!
Love the lay out
I use to play this course years ago, I just come back to the game a few months ago, always love the lay out of the course, it is challenging but at the same time is forgiving, I don't remember been in such a good condition, i am surprised, for this time of the year is excellent, i been playing Bear Creek, none of their courses compare to this one, they need go to work, I happily recommend.
Gus wortham
Typical Texas as grass starts thinning, but greens weren't too bad
Couple of pretty holes and a couple of fun tricky holes
I'll be back
Great Value Course
Played on a beautiful 75 degree day in a twosome with a cart. Got stuck behind a foursome on the back nine, but pace improved once getting through them when we went to the front nine. Nice elevation changes (believe it for Houston), greens ok and fairways need a little attention, but overall a very nice course to play for the money spent.
Very slow play
The course itself was fun I joined another group of guys, it made the round very enjoyable. most of the green were in good condition but the fairways were either very hard or very soft. The pace of play was very slow, we waited at every tie for a long time for the groups Infront of us and ended up jumping 2 holes just to get Infront of them as they had 5 or 6 in there groups. I paid $13 for my round including the cart, for that kind of money you can put up with slow rounds.
Fun course
Very easy course. Good for fun and practice course.
time of year
the course need work, some greens need workbut overall ok to play. no crowd that day
Dryness on Greens!!!!
course was very dry greens were very dry reviews on this course said great area to play.
