Gus Wortham Park Golf Course

About
Texas' oldest existing 18-hole track was originally built in 1908 to serve members of Houston Country Club. When the club found a new location in the 1950s, Gus Wortham bought the facility and opened it to the public with $60 annual dues. The city of Houston took over in 1973, and it's been one of the busiest courses in the state ever since.
The unique design features a trio of par 5s on holes 2-4, a rarity in golf. One of the better birdie opportunities is the 293-yard No. 9. On the back, one of Texas' signature par 3s awaits in the 250-yard No. 16.
Getting there : From I-45, take the Wakeside Blvd. Exit and travel 1 mile north to Capitol St.

What’s not to love?
First-timers at Gus see the length and think it’s an executive course. But fast, undulated greens and nonstop wind make this a fun, interesting challenge.
Course is always in great shape and the people you meet at Gus are a great cross-section of our city. Always recommend it.
Best municipal in H Town!
We love this course. We played at least once every two weeks. The upkeep and the conditions are always excellent I would recommend this course to anyone.
New Golfing Destination
This course offers a real challenge to your overall game except for the driver. The fairways were so wide you can't miss -well maybe twice. It was a unique golfing experience seeing a lot of natural terrain in Houston, which was hilly. I played the blue tees and found that at my age, playing the white ones would have made the round more fun. The greens were well protected by those bunkers and the sand within them just about perfect on this day. I don't recall seeing a weed on the course. WOW! The most difficult aspect of this course was the greens. They were the toughest I recall ever playing.
Great Muni
Course is in great shape, awesome greens. Best value for the money in town.
Always perfect
Always perfect conditions at this course. Very tight lies in the fairway but perfect in terms of course conditions.
Waiting Game
If you got 5 hours come play this course. they need to find away to speed up the golfers on the course. It's not fun or enjoyable to hit a shot 10 to 15 minute apart. You could take a nap between shots it so slow.
Even Better Gus
Love the history of this old course. Played it a lot in the 80s, 90s and 00s. Really missed it when it was down for the reworking but the wait was really worth it. Course in fine shape and the physical changes made it so much better. Very enjoyable.
Wonderful green condition
We played only 3and 1/2 hours with 3some.
Nice green speed, little fast, which is I like it.
Fairway so nice!!!
Gus Worthan
The club house attendant was not very friendly. The starter said I could tee up early because there was a three-some that I can play with. However, the club house attendant said no because I booked with golfnow. It makes me feel like a lower tier paying customer and was offended.
Additional Fee
Why does this course charge an additional fee for a single rider? This is the only Houston Municipal course that charges that fee believe it’s not right please advise
