Pace of Play...
I played on Saturday, had to leave after hole 11 as the pace of play was ridiculously slow, at one point there were 3 groups waiting to tee off. Couldn't get going at all, really disappointed as it's not a cheap round of golf. Won't be returning.
Great layout
Course was very forgiving and the fairways were kept excellently. Will be back here to play again
Expensive for condition of course
First time playing since the new course layout has opened. £45 for guest round. Far too expensive given there were 3 temporary greens in play (on 1st June) and the greens that were in play were in poor condition. It is a lovely place, but course not up to standard yet. £25 would have been a fair price. It’s a shame they have got rid of the old 18th Hole and replaced it with a boring 17th. However that said there are a few very nice new holes.
Could be so much better
Set in a beautiful location and an amazing estate the course is very picturesque running by the river Ouse.
However, when we visited they had recently cut the rough and left the grass cuttings (guess for a week or more) meaning it was brown and clumpy which meant we were losing balls on regular basis even having hit good shots.
Also there were two temporary greens which we were not aware of until we arrived at the course and these hadn't even been cut so we're impossible to putt on even by temporary green standards. It's such a shame as I think this could be one of the most lovely courses around those touches took the edge off.
Good course
Will be a great course once they get rid of temp greens and sort out the greens but overall really enjoyed the experience.
Little bit pricey to say they were using to greens on certain holes and had 2 shut
Fantastic Potential
My review is realistic based on the current ongoing course development. I’m not going to focus on negatives, of which there are some, but on my overall positive experience.
The course is clearly undergoing continued development and it would be churlish to focus on that given that I was aware of it prior to playing. Given that many courses are also suffering from the effects of a challenging winter, this course has actually held up well, despite the odd temporary green.
Despite its ongoing upgrading the course is set in very mature parkland pretty well manicured and signposted is an extremely pleasurable environment to play in. A great mixture of holes, some more challenging with others. Lots of great features including a drive from the tee over the river Ure on the 14th and a meandering fairway splitting beck to be negotiated on a number of holes.
Good points. Fantastic Parkland course with excellent lay out. Quiet, no queueing and a great price currently that reflects the ongoing course development. Will be a cracking course in a year or so, but well worth making the effort now as soon as thd temporary greens have been dispensed with.
Undermaintained - holidays?
The new layout is a lot of fun and will get better and better over time but we just felt a bit disappointed with the state of the course. Semi rough just too deep and thus lost balls galore, proper rough (way off target admittedly) just hopelessly deep and impenetrable. Grassy greens. Clumps of loose grass on fairways....
It just looked a bit neglected/ undermanned. We still enjoyed ourselves but grass everywhere and nowhere to clean up shoes, trolleys etc at the end of the round.
Great bar, excellent food!
Nice course but...
It's a picturesque course but have to say last time we played it was disappointing in terms of the maintenance. Greens very slow and holes with overhanging grass growth. First cut of rough longer than you'd expect and made finding the ball a challenge in itself.
Overall, could be great but needs more maintenance.
Avoid
Rude and ignorant pro shop staff should have been an indicator. First time playing since the course change. No warm up facilities bar a half bald half over grown putting green. Greens ranged from water bed texture and surface movement under foot to a mixture of bald and over grown in one green. No real fairways or noticeable maintenance anywhere to golf course level. It’s as if they’re trying to save money but only maintaining the course once a week fairways possibly once a month first cut of rough out. Course not accurately linked to golfing apps. Since course layout change.
Bar staff were decent and the food and drink was good.
Comfortably the worst course I’ve ever played.
Aldwark Manor
It will be a good course when complete and when greens have been improved.
Got potential
Newly laid out course with some completely new holes, so don't feel I can be too harsh! Greens were not great if I'm honest, very slow and some with tracks along them making putting a challenge (or more of!). Some very nice holes though and the water on the course presented a good challenge (take a few balls!). I think in a year or two the course will be top notch though, and it is worth a visit if you can get a reduced green fee, as not sure in its current condition that its worth full price. Great clubhouse, good ambience and friendly staff, stop serving bacon sandwiches at 12 tho....
Don’t waste your money
The course may well be good in a couple of years but at the moment it’s very poor. Fairways in poor condition and greens are very slow and uneven. The layout is poor- they have missed a trick - long walk from 1st to 2nd. Signature hole green is too small. 17th seems like an afterthought. Even the original holes are poor.
Very disappointing.
Nice course shame about the greens
Aldwark Manor is just over 5700 yards which is short. It makes up for this with some interesting holes. Hopefully the greens will improve as this was the major downside of the course. Differing speeds, mostly slow with some in need of repair. Poor for a course that has only been re-opemed for a month.
Day 1 opening Round
We played here as a 3 ball for a day before wedding round, picked it due to it being a little more expensive and a proper treat. The course opened its newly renovated 18 hole course that day and we were the second group on it. Absolutely amazing course that will only get better once it’s bedded in more. Some good challenging holes, lovely design and details. The greens were immaculate and fairways all cut properly.
Due to some holes being fully renovated there were some “pick and place” on a couple holes but barely noticeable. The staff in the “Bunkers” bar before and after couldn’t have been more accommodating and friendly. This course has instantly gone into my top 3 I’ve played and will only get better, no expense has been spared when designing this course and the organisers should be very proud.
Aldwark Manor
Undergoing restoration but playable holes in reasonable condition. The new holes under construction look fantastic so look forward to playing there next summer.
