walk in the mist
It was not the best of days - mist rain thunder, yet thoroughly enjoyed the round. No two holes the same - lots of changes in elevation - dog legs blind par 3 drivable par 4's. BCGC has got it all. Apparently it also has great views but we couldnt see them. Changed our tee time on arrival - no problem. Decided to take a buggy due to threat of lightening - no problem. I will return on a better day...
Played Carnoustie the following day and the greens were only marginally better.
Dodging the storm
The weather forecast was not good. We arrived early and asked to go ahead of our time. No problem . Staff v Friendly and accommodating. Really enjoyed course despite intermittent fog and rain. Lots of interesting holes and wonderful greens
Spectacular Views
Outstanding scenery, Bamburgh Castle, Lindsfarne Island, Budle Bay. Quite a hilly course, not suitable for the frail. Many blind shots. Some holes are rather close to others and I suspect risk of being hit by stray ball must be above average. (Ball from 18th flew between me and my playing partner hitting clubhouse before we had even teed off. Some par 4s very short, my partner hit 17th with 5 iron. Despite above, did enjoy our round and would be happy to play again.
Great Course
Challenging course in windy conditions with some very interesting holes.... but what fantastic views over the Northumbrian coast from all over the course !
Great.
Holiday Golf
I visited here on my way down from Scotland. This is yet another "Sporty" or "holiday" course with great value and views which is not on the beaten path. This has views that are about as good as it gets-sea, beach, small islands, town and castle-the walk from 14th green to 15th tee is exceptional.. The value is excellent as it was 60 pounds for a day ticket. Ignore the total yardage as this course has 2 par 5s and 6 par 3s. There are also many holes with elevation changes going up and down a hill. The longest par 4s are downhill. Proper quirky golf with interesting holes.
This is proper links golf as the course is firm and fast, wind, blind drives and approaches (Multiple bells to ring) and it is plenty of fun.The course has a restaurant, sit outside on the deck, and visitors get to use the locker room.
The only problem is the remote location. It is about 5.5 hours from London. Not many people plan golf trips up this way so if you are playing the Heathland courses near London or the Golf Coast, I can't say that this should be done instead of those. I can say that if you are in the neighborhood, then play here. Wouldn't plan a vacation around it, but the value makes it worth "game".
