Great value
My mates and I are Sunday social golfers based in Oldham.
We are not hackers but rarely break 90.
The staff are brilliant and really helpful.
The course is undulating so you rarely have a flat lie. Set in a valley the higher holes feel like moorland and the valley holes are more parkland.
It was bleak and chilly last Sunday - given the rain recently the course was in excellent nick.
The layout involves quite a bit of walking between holes so you need a decent level of fitness to get round.
The par threes are terrific holes - the last hole is poor and for me there are too many blind shots - You need to play it once to get the layout.
Green are very good.
The clubhouse is very nice and by all accounts the food is excellent.
I managed three pars - so there are opportunities for the less able player to enjoy a bit of success.
I’ll definitely go back in the summer if only because we were made so welcome.
Cheap and cheerful
Course was very damp and in need of a bit of love and attention. Greens very slow and woolly. Not always clear where the next hole is. Food in the clubhouse was excellent and good value. Staff very friendly.
Some great holes!
Really enjoyed playing Brookdale. Really smart course! Loved holes 7 to 11. Great holes! 18 is a great finishing hole in match play. Thanks to the club!
First timeat Brookdale
Ridden past here lots on my bike, eaxh tine resolving to return with clubs and tioday opportunity presented itself not leadt in part due to the very reasonable green fee advertised.
Arrival impressions were of a beatifully–kept course with an abundance of green surfacces which were, given recent dry conditioms, most impressive.
We were welconed with a warm snile by the beautiful club pro Karen who is also the voice of the video guide to the course on the club'ls website. This resource is recommended for first–time players as the course is intricately laid out both to maximise the space but also to present an optimal experience to players as the land it is on contains some severe gradients, and clearly much thought has gone into avoiding excessive walking uo and downhill on some of the steeper sections. This results in the nearest tee box to the last green not necessarily being the one next one to play, but the signage is good once you are aware of this and look out for it.
Another benefit of this is there are some spectacular golf holes to play, making it a course you will need to play a few times to get your best score as there are many hazards and pins not easily discernible by eye and so using all available aids to assist is recommended,
The oipening holes are generally open and forgiving (dry conditions affording great value on distance with the caveat of lateral penalisaton for suboptimal shots due to slopes) before more technical holes further into the course.
As high handicap golfers we found it rfreshing to play without an obvuous pressure of better golfers breatbing dwn our necks and there were anple opportunitiea to let better players through, and also passiing close to one anotber in neighbouring holes resulting n a positive experience for all.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely return, albeit after a rest as we were thoroughly shattered and retired to the equally excellent local hostelries for well–earned 'refreshment'!
Tough course. Not easy to know where the next tee was on occasion. I feel it needs better signposting. The 15th to the 16th is very confusing. There is a bridge which is disused and no instructions on where to go. Maybe I’m a little discombobulated as I had a shocking round. Course conditions cannot be criticised.
Oveeplayed
Greens good lots
of unrepaired pitch marks though
Tees worn bare
Seems to be lack of ground staff
Stuck behind four ball
Don’t get why reviews so good
Not normally grumpy in my reviews??
Nice course & friendly members but, slow play let it down.
Enjoyed my round, just the pace of play was very slow. Members I met were very friendly and helpful. They said it was not normally slow going but, there was a golf society playing which had slowed everything down.
Not a 5 star course
Very confused by the 5 star rating this has. I've played far better courses than this one for various reasons. Layout is poor (including having to drive your car across the 2nd fairway just to get to the car park...that was nervy). Greens were poor in the height of summer. No one was there on arrival, pro shop was closed and couldn't get scorecards. Pace of play was so so poor but in fairness that's nothing to do with the course itself, just unlucky I suppose. £32 to play just didn't do this any justice. Fairfield for less money is a far better choice.
Very nice course
Well looked after golf course with some nice Quirky holes, tough par 3’s but a very good experience.
Great condition
Lovely course with the only negative aspect being the bridge from the 15th green to 16th tee which is closed and means a much longer walk and if busy I can imagine it would cause problems with people on the 17th.
Would still return though - great course
Brookdale gc
Course in great nick always loved this course if I lived more local I would consider being a member .Only criticism is £22 per round is expensive especially in these times where Joe average is struggling for money....do drop your prices please .
