Great course with a range of challenges to navigate
A course local to me but only my third visit. I’m surprised by some of the reviews as the course was a pleasure and a challenge. The greens were a bit slow but the course was in good condition considering the weather recently. The holes are fun to play and offer a range of challenges including several shots across open water. For the price I paid it’s well worth a late afternoon visit.
Where to next?
Really playable course, with some interesting holes but overall a good course for those not looking for a massive challenge. Fairways and tee boxes in good condition, though some of the greens a little bumpy.
Biggest problem is it’s often pure guesswork where the next hole is. More than a few occasions we were looking at each other not knowing which way to go. Couple of signs at the back of the greens could easily remedy this. Not sure why this isn’t the case.
Council Course
1st time playing this course and won't be returning. Greens shockingly bad I dont think these have seen any water for a while just like the rest of the country. I appreciate we are in the middle of a very dry summer but surely you would water the greens ? They were rock hard and very burnt and awful to putt on. Course layout boring and not very well designed, very council type feel to the place. Pace of play also very slow waiting on every hole and then there's a bloke in a buggy selling food and drink at extortionate prices trying to tell us to hurry up haha bore off mate.
Just thought I'd write this review to warn others to go elsewhere before playing here not worth it should build houses on the land instead
Good bit extremely slow
The course is well kept and the members and staff are very welcoming.
The greens were a bit patchy but that's the same a lot of places recently due to lack of rain. My main problem was the over booking and pace of play. Came on a Sunday using the GN deal and got out with a 3 ball which can happen, but there were often 3 sets of players on each hole. Took us almost 3 hours to do 9 holes so didn't get time to do the full 18 that I'd paid for. The course layout added to this because of the section of the course where about 6 fairways run up and back against each other so there's constantly other players on your fairway. Shame, but I wouldn't recommend coming during busy periods, pay a little extra and go elsewhere.
very poor greens.
Overall the course was ok. But greens were awful, bumpy, bare patches and generrally not good. Was going round at decent pace until the back nine, where the pace just halted.Waiting 10 minutes to tee off from the 15th, so just walked off.Not worth the money, better courses locally.
Disappointed
Last played this course 2 years ago and was very impressed with the conditions of the course. Decided to return with a friend over the bank holiday weekend and was disappointed especially after bigging it up to my friend who doesn't think highly of the place. Greens were very poor, like concrete, patchy and bumpy as your putting. Course Marshall extremely rude and arrogant. I have played the likes of Druids Heath, Walsall, Great Barr, Bloxwich and Sutton Coldfield recently and the greens were in excellent condition. The only positive thing I can say is the pro shop and clubhouse staff very friendly and helpful and reasonably priced beer and food. Not worth the £32.50 green fee better courses out there for your money.
Course condition was poor, strange course layout with separate holes playing in the same direction next to each other which made for lots of calls of fore, pace of play was slow as to be expected for bank holiday, the greens were terrible not running true and overseeded, rock hard so almost impossible to hold a green, the course had good facilities but in terms of condition of the course there are way better courses for the same money or cheaper nearby in way better condition
Staff friendly and accommodating
Course is very tight which means balls are flying everywhere if you ain’t got people on your fairway on every hole it’s a surprise
Spoke with a member of the club who was very rude and very disrespectful and kind of dismissed me and my mate
We would not return to this golf course again
There was occasions we saw cigarette ends on the tee box’s which weren’t a good look
Luckily we had a hot deal or else I wouldn’t pay full price for that course
Thank you
First time playing and was made to feel really welcome, great staff. The course was is good condition considering the time of year. The course suited my style of play.
Slow Pace
The course is decent but the green conditions weren’t brilliant, very bumpy under the ball. I’ve played other courses recently and the greens have been brilliant for March!
There were a lot of golfers who, were either very low handicapped, or just didn’t care about other golfers around them. I’m definitely no snob were etiquette is concerned, but I’d like to think, shouting across the course, driving buggies like they’re Indie car racing or not shouting ’fore’ when the ball lands at inches away from you isn’t good for other golfers.
Really pleased!
Course was in lovely condition for time of year and was a great 18 hole course.
Enjoyable round
Considering the large amount of rain we’ve had the course drainage was impressive, the one downside was the quality of the greens very bobbly and flags were generally placed close to the fringes not giving much leeway for approach shots.
A great course at a brilliant price
Calderfields is a very varied course and offers a few challenging holes. With a variety of hazards - it’s good fun either as a solo or with friends. Highly recommended - does get a little muddy following wet weather!
