Really good condition for the time of year
Was impressed with conditions on the course for time of year plugged on a couple of holes but could easily clean and place most holes didn’t plug and fairways was nice and short brilliant course would absolutely recommend ground keeper must be busy as course is really well maintained
Value for money
Excellent welcome from staff and course in good condition for time of year. A couple of slow groups held up play ahead. Value for money. Will play again
Very enjoyable round. Not very busy and nice pace of play.
Good value for money
Good layout and course in decent condition. Staff very friendly and practice facilities were excellent. Only negative comment is untidiness, every hole had broken tees lying about the teeing area.
Excellent condition
Played this course many times over the years and never seen it in such amazing conditions. It’s always had a great layout and rewards you if you’re playing well. The off course facilities are fantastic and all the staff are great. Can’t wait to come back
Challenging course
Challenging course with great fairways some holes more challenging than others but overall great experience greens exceptional quite fast would definitely return staff very friendly also better course than staining lodge which was swampy and staff grumpy
Poor condition.
I was slightly disappointed with the course to be honest. I’ve not played it for about 15 years so I thought I’d give it a try seeing as though the weather was good.
Upon arrival the pro shop staff were very friendly and warned me it was still soft in areas and that the rough would have lots of grass clippings on it. Which I understand that the weather has been terrible over the last six months so cutting fairways has been impossible. However, the greens look like they have had zero attention pre season. Certainly no tining, top dressing or feed. The greens were also really hard, and they were woolly and burnt which didn’t really make for a nice experience, they weren’t receptive at all and they were pretty slow. Bunkers look like they haven’t been raked properly for ages and the course generally just looked a bit scruffy. Certainly a difference to when I last played it all those years ago. It’s a shame because the layout is actually quite nice with some very drivable reward holes.
I would play there again but only to see if things had improved, it needs some love.
Very poor condition
The coarse is I the worst condition I’ve seen I played last year here and it wasn’t the best then for the price they charge there is a pitch and put in st Anne’s in better condition no better than the coarse across the road don’t waste your money or time playing here Garstang golf is in great order considering the weather we’ve had and is worth the drive out
Who ever is in charge of this coarse needs to up there game or suffer from no customers
Disappointing early season round.
Herons reach is normally one of the best courses in the north west but sadly it seems to have suffered over this past winter and it is evident there have been cuts to green keeping staff.
We visited the Sunday just gone and the course is in very poor condition I can forgive that due to the horrendous spring we’ve had but it was overall other issues we saw for example on a few greens rabbits had burrowed down into the greens and it was evident these had been here for a while and there was no evidence of any repairs taking place which regardless of the conditions shouldn’t matter. There was zero definition between fairway and rough and the greens were very mossy, slow and bumpy.
The overall pace of play was very slow and frustrating too I appreciate clubs in this country have a small window to make money but there was no staff around the course ensuring a decent pace of play and some groups ahead of us where frankly taking the mick.
I do hope this improves into the summer as it would be a shame to loose another decent course due to lack of funding into the course itself.
Worst ever
Arrived at course early and as it was quiet we were allowed to play before our scheduled time.
We were not advised that holes 11, 12, & 13 were not playing due to them being unplayable because of the being waterlogged.
I have never played on worse conditioned fairways in my life, the fairway grass in most holes was approximately 3 - 4 inches long and in the most freshly cut so all the cut grass was laying on the ground. They were the softest underfoot I have played ever and to this we lost 7 balls on the fairways due to them plugging or under cut grass.
THIS COURSE SHOULD NEVER BEEN OPEN FOR PLAY IN IT'S CONDITION THAT DAY, RIPPING OF THE PUBLIC .
Bigal
In all my years (48) it's the worst course condition I have ever played. Wasn't informed of that holes 11, 12 & 13 were off and in all honesty I have walked in better conditioned horse paddocks than the majority of the fairways at Herons Reach. The greens were passable considering the horrendous weather we've had, but will never recommend this course to anyone.
Course should be closed
The only reason this swamp of a golf course was open was to MIlk money from golfers ,the course was a complete bog ,loosing balls on fairways ankle deep in mud ,then after 6 holes it took over a hour to locate a room in the hotel where the key issued by staff opened the door ,5 keys ,5 bedrooms before getting access to a room which was to say the least extremely basic ,if you are planning a golf break with friends ,go somewhere else ,this place is a disgrace
Not allowed on course
Paid £36 for 2 players , on arrival told by pro shop no trolleys allowed as course was wet ,we are both 65 and unable to carry cart bags . We were told to contact Golf Now but unsure how to do this ,there was nothing to say this course did not allow trolleys and nothing on the confirmation email therefore we have lost £36 .
