First time I've returned to GW in about 8 years.
First thing I noticed was that even though the course is really well established, the trees were so much more mature and established, enough on a couple of holes to make the drive seem somewhat intimidating (especially the 17th, which played into the wind on Sunday)
Wide fairways otherwise and plenty of margin for error, just unfortunate that my group of 3 seemed to like playing from the rough, we were in it so often from the tee (I made the fairway on only 4 of my 14 Par 4/5 drives)
Large greens that were soft but firm that rewarded attacking shots into them.
I definitely won't leave it as long till I return.
Fair but you need accuracy of the tee
A lovely course with a decent variety of holes. Course was in very good condition. Greens were lovely, pretty quick and most had slopes. Opportunity to three put on many greens. No water on the course to speak of. Some of the bunkers could have done with some more sand in them. One key point here is that although many of the part 4s and 5s had winder then average fairways, any wayward tee shot was punished severely as there are dense threes on both sides of many of the fairways. However would recommend anyone to try this course out in dry weather as it can get quite soggy apparently at times. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to try the clubhouse/food/drinks as I had to dash of to another game later that day.
Very enjoyable afternoon
I hadn't played this course in over 20 years, and it was great to be back. The course has matured well, and was in very good condition.
Good course not so friendly members
Everything about the round was spot on apart from the 4 members in front of us holding things up on every hole. One of the lads playing left on the 9th due to their slow play. We were on the 10th tee box waiting as they teed off and despite the 3 of us continuing on in buggies they never offered to let us go through. Asked them if we could go through on the 13th and got a nasty reaction
Stopped playing this course a few yrs back due to poor conditions and overly priced however I was very impressed with current course conditions especially the greens. Also got a good price via TeeOffTimes
Excellent course
Friendly staff
Course in good condition although a bit wet in spots
Greens excellent
Great course, poor customer service
Lovely course, good condition even though we are in October.
My main criticism of the course and I've played several times now is the attitude in the pro shop to non members which boarders on rude. On this occasion the guy seemed to have no understanding of the teeofftimes booking system and despite me providing the email confirmation I had to show an online bank statement to "prove" I'd paid. There was then a discussion about how cheap I'd got the deal (£13 po) and that the course would never have it that cheap.
This sort of attitude has no place in the modern golf game for me and if they don't want guests on their course then they shouldn't advertise on teeofftimes.
Bad attitude of staff spoils what is a great course
Not improved since I last played
I used to be a member of the this club and haven't played here for a number of years. The facilities are really good. The clubhouse, driving range and practice facilities are great. To look at the course looks lovely. The trees around nearly fairway make wayward driving a no no. That's really it for the hazards. When it was designed. The designers lacked imagination. The course isn't really interesting. There are a couple of holes that make you think. In general most holes are pretty standard. Greens were in good condition. Although soft for this time of year. Plus the fairways are wet and cutting up already. I can't see the course being open much during the winter. That's the main reason I left. Lovely summer course. A no no for the winter
excellent course
This course takes some beating,,still in march and the course is in great condition for this time of year.staff and the members or a lot friendlier than a lot of the other course's in the area.
