Heworth Golf Club

Had a fantastic experience at Heworth, super friendly welcome from the pro shop, clear instructions on course works, and managed to complete my round before the greens sanding work was being done. Greens, moderate speed and true, and the tees quality was outstanding considering the summer weather recently, fairways playing well and greening up nicely. Light winds, a clear course in front of me and I was done 18 in 2.5hrs with a decent score. Will definitely return, credit to the staff and greenkeeping team.

Most if not all bunkers need work. Morning raking and generally maintenance is clearly not carried out regularly - given that it was clear that greens were removed of morning due surely it would take 2 mins to rake the bunkers. Most if not all have minimal sand and could do with more. Many bunkers have stones, weeds or wild plants growing out of them. Bunkers are designed to be a hazard, not to make conditions unplayable.

Some hole layouts from green to next tee are simple just unnecessary. For example (I think from hole 9 onto tee 10) you’re walking 70+ yards from green down the 10th fairway to the tee box, then walking back up past the 9th green. It slows play, adds risk to players on green 9th and would just make more sense to shorten the hole by a quarter and have the tee box just left of the 9th green. This same scenario repeats itself on holes 16 - 17 with walk from 16-17 and 16 tee box is directly behind in in line of sight of hole 3 (PAR 3).

The greens are in excellent condition despite the dry weather conditions.

Decent course. Excellent pro staff shop who did their job very well.

Everything was exceptional, even the weather!!!!

Just one thing to note, when we checked in we were not informed of another pair also teeing off with us at the same time and the other pair weren’t informed either. A simple thing but quite important bearing in mind how busy the course was on that day, something to improve on perhaps.

Greens was absolutely shocking not worth £30

We teed off at 12:12 on a Saturday, so expectedly the course was quite busy and we were paired up with two other golfers. Luckily, they were great company and made the round even more enjoyable.

We had a really good mix of golf throughout the day—some great shots and a few not so great—but that’s all part of it. Despite the course being busy, the pace of play was much better than expected. There was a short wait on the first tee and maybe one or two other holes, but nothing that slowed things down too much.

Overall, it was a great day out. Good company, decent pace, and an enjoyable round of golf.

Charging £50 to play on a course with terrible winter greens on nearly every hole. Playing off cuttings of mats in ground that was chopped up and uncared for. The placement of tee off mats were not thought through as most were on laid on uneven ground a shambles in fairness.

I play this course every now and then and it’s always a great, enjoyable experience. The layout is excellent, with a mix of testing shots and forgiving tee boxes thanks to the open fairways, but it still provides a really good challenge. It’s the kind of course that keeps you thinking while still being fun to play.

The course is consistently kept in fantastic condition. Even through the winter it’s maintained to a very high standard, and while there are a couple of winter greens at times, that’s completely expected for the season.

On the day we played there had been endless rain, so a few areas were slightly flooded, but that’s obviously no reflection on the course management at all. In fact, we played the same time the week before and the course was in absolutely perfect condition.

Overall, this is easily a 5-star course for me. The quality of the layout, the condition of the course, and the overall experience make it a place I always look forward to coming back to.

The course, considering the time of year, was immaculate. The greens were firm and very well maintained. Still no winter greens, not sure if they’ll be included soon, but all greens were playable.

The practice facilities ahead of your round were ample with a little range, chipping area, putting green and nets available.
