£1 per hole but needs investment
As a last minute knocki pick something local, the course has a great layout but thats where it stops. Reception area looked like it was a store room, the fairway grass was about 2inch long so effectively playing in the rough, 14 out of 18 greens were pitted like they have been used for chipping practice. 8/18 tee boxes were worn so badly it was just a patch of mud. This course has lots pf potential but needs investment and someone whos passionate
Boggy
Very hilly course not for old folk or people who carry bag really although it’s probably as easy on the body as course was super boggy which yes it’s end of winter but still under foot sometimes treacherous two young lads I played with today fell over and were covered all up one side in mud funny but not if you were them also they were losing balls as landing in mud and plugging even on main fairway you could lose a ball so frustrating and I’m 60 and the walk is brutal up first few then last 3
Bit boggy
Didn’t learn until turned up that 3 holes totally out of use but greens were slow but in good condition the fairways quite long but the weather as been dreadful so acceptable and it’s quite a hilly sloped course so was a bit tough as well due to boggy conditions and wished been informed before hand that 3 holes not in use but suppose weather takes its toll but enjoyed day value was ok due to the holes being out so value ok
On its way back!
The place has come on in leaps and bounds since the much needed change of ownership. It was in an extremely sorry state, but thanks to work carried out on the greens, fairways and roughs, it’s getting back to where it was around 15 years ago. With further work promised on bunkers, and work already underway on levelling some of the tees (even though I thought they were fine enough) it’ll be even much more improved this year. The administration team are quick to reply to queries, and the greenkeepers are pulling their guts out, to turn things around - it’s all so much appreciated. A zillion thanks!
Best course layout in Yorkshire
Best course layout in area. The work the new owners have done to improve the course has been amazing. New Winter tees that have been marked for England golf. All in all great course
Ignore any bad reviews this was from previous owners the new ones have invested a lot of time into the course
Such a good test of golf
Such a good test of golf at the Grange, you use every club in your bag there, fabulous layout and views, very welcoming on reception and hardworking greens staff make it a pleasure to play there.
Fantastic course
Great course and nice layout some
Lovely holes and nice views to be seen friendly staff
PLEASE AVOID THE GRANGE GOLF CLUB IN ROTHERHAM
- it appears they have pulled a classic let’s go out of business today owing £120k to suppliers and set up a new company with a new company name and carryon trading tomorrow. Sadly my wife didsome workfor them and is one of the debtors and is owed money. She sued in the county court some months ago and won a judgement but the new registered company can thumb their nose up at Anne and everyone else that is owed money and book your wedding tomorrow or a meal or a round of golf for you. The money taken goes into the pockets of the new company and there is nothing Anne can do about it. What a bunch of bar stewards!! Even worse it seems to be the same people who closed one business and opened the other and carried on trading. Despicable !!!
Enjoyable Course.
This course has a good and challenging layout, the overall conditions are good, especially the fairways.
Some issues with some of the greens but maintained as best they can for now. Hopefully some in depth work soon. The main issue is the bunkers, a lack of sand in quite a few of them. Not enough to put me off, I play this course regularly and enjoy it.
Getting better and better
I played this course quite a few times over the last 2 years and wouldn't have recommended it in the past, but I have to say the course is getting much better. I will say the bunkers are still pretty terrible so there is much work to be done there, but I usually just play all bunkers as GUR here. The greens are getting better, still a little patchy and slow, but they are infinitely better than how they were last year/early this year. Fairways and tee boxes I had no complaints at all, and the course layout is one of my favourites. If they keep looking after this course through the winter I can see it being very good next year.
This course is good
First and only course I’ve played so far but haven’t been disappointed and is really fun to play
Course played great but shame the weather didn’t play ball
I’ve played the course a few times recently and I find it a really friendly place the clubhouse staff are great, the course is playing quite well in decent condition, there’s a few issues with bunkers but it’s GUR apart from that it is playing well, there’s pace of play was good I was on my own and got let through by several other groups, I would recommend people to come try the course it’s good value and has some very thoughtful holes
Grange Getting There
Last played the course 3 years ago under it's previous owner. Vowed to never return. Glad I did. Ner ownership working really hard to get the old lady back to her best. Keep up the great work. Still much to do. I'll be back
Great course
I have played this course about 5 or 6 times and the standard of the course has really picked up. All staff are friendly.
Just a great all rounder really and I will be going back for another round very soon
Hidden gem
Great layout, and close to.motorway so easy access.
Friendly welcome. Not too busy, course was in good condition considering the weather we've had.
Some tricky holes to make you think about your shots.
Its not just turn up driver, wedge putt.
Course condition
On my arrival the staff were friendly and helpful
It is 12 months since I played the Grange and I was hoping that the course would be in better condition than it was then
The course had changed ownership and I was always receiving emails telling the course was in great condition but unfortunately that is not the case.
I understand that the weather has had an effect on courses but a lot of things that required attention 12 months ago were not much better, most of the bunkers have very little or no so called sand in them, there are weeds growing in them.
The greens have improved slightly but are not up to a good standard, still alot of work required to get the course back to a good standard.
I love this course layout and have played here for about 40 years on and off, just so disappointed that it was not what I expected.
It is unusual for me to comment on reviews but I feel that i just cannot let this one pass. The fairways that were supposedly 2 inches long were cut and striped the day this person played at 16mm by me, we are now on the 2nd of May and they are still less than 20mm long so wherever this person was playing from it was not our fairways. The greens do at present have some fusarium scarring which we are in the process of growing out, just awaiting the warmer weather, the experienced golfers among you will know that is all you can do with fusarium. Three weeks ago we could not even get on the course to cut it because it was to wet so we are like most courses in the Uk very early in our maintenance cycle and have only this weekend moved on to our summer tees hence why it was only £18 per round.
