Morpeth Golf Club .Playing off Mats
Some tees were on winter mats. All balls on fairways were either played from Semi or played off mats.
Winter golf at Morpeth
Course was in reasonable condition for the time of year with only one winter green in play. However, all eighteen holes were on winter tees some of which aren’t the best and might be too small and restrictive for the big hitters. Condition and speed of the greens was especially impressive considering the time of year. Pace of play wasn’t the best but we were waved through on the 9th and all was OK after that. Not sure why the bunkers were all classed as GUR for our round as they appeared to be perfectly playable, also not sure why play off fairway mats is currently stipulated – feels like the club is being a bit precious at the expense of visitors. Leafe cover in various places is currently a real nuisance – we had a couple of balls go missing under leaves whilst still on the fairway.
Nice change
First time playing Morpeth and we really enjoyed the experience. Pro was very helpful explaining the course winter rules etc. Nice tree lined course with a few trying holes and tee positions. Definitely play the course again as it is a lot more scenic than some courses in the surrounding area.
Fabulous and friendly
Lovely late autumn day around Morpeth golf course, fairways and tees in excellent condition, greens recently aerated readying for the winter, but still really good. Enjoyed it very much, pro shop very helpful and everyone I met was friendly and let me play through as a one ball when I caught them up. Will definitely be back.
Disappointing first time
I know it’s the end of Oct but the course seemed a bit rough. Every bunker was GUR but never saw any work getting done to them! Tee boxes were poor however the redeeming factor were the greens everyone rolled true and were about the only pleasure on the day. I will be back though next summer never had a chance to visit the club house so will make a point of doing so on my next visit.
Friendly golf club
Bit of work going on on the course but great for this time of year.
A good test of your golf skills
Course in good condition the greens ok for this time of the year not easy to read
Morpeth Sunday
Course was really nice, but the round was spoiled by a two-ball who for 12 holes simply refused to let anyone through which created a logjam, the lady in front of me jumped holes to finally be able to play. when I was finally let through at hole 12, I ended up being three holes in front of the two by the 16th hole. Other than that, an enjoyable course to play, and one I did enjoy.
Nice course
Enjoyed playing the course for the first time. The greens were In great condition. Course length felt short with a number of inviting short par 4s. Despite this the course still presented a challenge. The fairways are fairly undulating so good tee shots often weren't rewarded with an even lie.
Morpeth golf club
Very good condition course greens were excellent especially with all the hot weather we have had .
Better signage required
A very well kept course with excellent greens - undulating fairways were a challenge.
Pace of play not the best as a 2 ball .
Better signage would help with boards on each tee as some are double tees, As the play was slow we could follow the group in front to find our way around
Disappointed that the kitchen was closed at 4.30pm
Lovely course but needs signage
There are no signs to point you in the direction to the next hole, & for a course like this which is all over the place. There are hole markers on the ground at each tee box but they are difficult to understand if you’ve never played the course before.
Apart from that the course was lovely, well kept & pleasant to play.
