Longhirst Hall Hotel & Golf - The Dawson Course

Can’t get much better. Great course.

Greens obviously treated for winter but still running nice.

Was a member a few years back so it was interesting to see the improvements after it has changed to the one course now. I have to say I was impressed with the course and it shows that moving to the one course from two 18 hole courses was the correct decision. It now allows greater focus to highly maintain the course. Fairways as with all courses in uk due to lack of rain are flattened grass as expected but the greens and the fringes are superb. Tee boxes and all surrounds well looked after and the clubhouse recently redecorated. I would highly recommend anyone wanting a challenging round of golf with beautiful surroundings to give this a go. Tony

We Booked a buggy for our round a few days in advance however on arrival no buggy’s were available. Reception had no idea where they were or indeed when they would be back (could a simple tracking device help ?)

We Waited over 30 minutes for a buggy to return from a previous round without success and in the end we had no option but to go without it.

With both of us over 60 and with limited mobility We couldn’t manage the full 18 holes and had to call it a day after hole 12.

The course is absolutely fantastic one of our favourites however this would make me think twice about booking again

1st time playing the course (was on my bucket list) the whole experience was superb, great conditions all round, stunning views, mixed variety of holes.

Facilities are amazing, driving range at reasonable prices, bunker and putting areas, the clubhouse with its friendly feel and reasonable prices also.

The course is stunning, I would apply for a membership if I lived closer, but the all round trip of nearly 2 hours doesn't work for me, such a shame as this is truly a wonderful course in all aspects.

I will be back, but unfortunately not as a member, keep doing what your doing Longhirst 👏🏌️

I brought a group of 24 golfers to play longhirst in July, we had bacon rolls coffee on arrival followed by 18 holes of golf. The food the service and the welcome into the club house was exceptional, nothing was to much of a ask and very well priced, we played 18 holes and the course was in excellant condition with fast greens, and manicured bunkers and well maintained fairways.

There is alot of attention to detail around the course and also great views, the pace of play was great meaning we finished our round in good time and enjoyed the hospitality in the clubhouse after. A shout out to all at longhirst golf club for there hospitality and making our day enjoyable , please pass our thanks also to the greens team they are doing a great job 👍🏻

Full enjoyed my time at longhirst, lovely course and friendly staff and nice clean clubhouse. Only thing was it was bit busy so had to wait for golfers infront

Longhirst is a great course with great facilities, practice area such as a driving range, chipping area - with bunkers and few different chips shots to multiple pins, and a practice green are all in great condition. The course itself is always in top condition even with the tough summer that every course has had. It’s always a good pace with carts always available if you need them and at a decent price. I would recommend this course to anyone, I’ve played here over 10 times and have enjoyed it every time.

We last played this course when it was 2 x 18 holes. We played the lakes and really liked it. This is now 1 course (the old course) I think some great holes have been lost but its still a lovely course. The faireays were somehow still green and the greens were really good.

Course was in very good condition for our round - the new "old course" 18 hole layout flows nicely and is challenging, picturesque and enjoyable to play but quite long at nearly 6,600 yards - if we lived closer we would certainly consider membership. Our only concern is the escalation in green fee - midweek is now £40 / £30 depending on tee time and it's £50 to play at the weekend which feels o.t.t. and probably puts the course out of reach from a cost perspective especially for younger players.

I had not realised the course has returned to its original layout one 18 hole course. It’s long especially on a hot day. There are a lot of water hazards and thick rough so for higher handicappers it’s great to play but pack a few extra balls. The 17th tee has a great view but wow it has bite if you stray a little offline. Overall yes I will return especially at the price but be prepared for it to be busier

The Dawson Course is one of two excellent courses here. It’s the longer of the two and features some very long holes lined with plenty of trees, making it one of the more challenging courses I’ve had the pleasure of playing.

There are several water hazards throughout the course, although not quite as many as its sister course. While that might sound intimidating, it actually adds to the enjoyment and strategy of the round rather than taking away from it.

One of the standout holes is the 5th, which is essentially an island-style green surrounded by water. It’s a fantastic hole, and the feeling when you’re the only one in your group to hit the green is unbeatable.

Another major highlight is the practice facilities. The club offers a fully equipped TrackMan driving range, a dedicated area for practicing chips and bunker shots, and a huge putting green. It’s an excellent setup for warming up or working on your game.

Overall, both the Dawson Course and the Lakes Course are fantastic and easily earn a 5-star rating.

We got a phone call at 08:52 on our tee time to say that the course was closed. It actually wasn’t as others had already teed off in front. The reason ours was cancelled was because it was raining and they didn’t want none members playing. Won’t be playing here again, we travelled 60 minutes this morning to this course to be told we couldn’t play on the tee box.

After booking my round and ticking the box , when I arrived and found out I needed winter wheels for my trolley , which was my fault , the pro was really good and allowed us to play , as the course was in really good condition , the sun was out no wind so playing conditions we're excellent, overall had a great day and will be back , with the correct wheels .

18 holes played in under 4 hours, course in great condition, only a couple of GUR, greens good, little slow tho. Overall very enjoyable.

I haven't played this course for a few years but was really impressed with the condition of the course. Greens were not rapid but you got a true roll & could stop the ball chipping in. Great value for money when others are trying to take your eyes out well worth a visit & I will be returning.
