Another great day .
Got there early ,the range was open to warm up , blue sky's no wind , pace of play was spot on , course conditions for this time of year we're excellent , had a great day , and will return , would also recommend to my friends .
Pace of play
Played here a handful of times previously, and as usual the course was lovely and the staff helpful and friendly. However the pace of play from the groups infront of us was totally unacceptable. We were a two ball and there were at least 4 four balls Infront of us going ridiculously slowly. We had to wait on every tee shot, and it took us nearly 4 hours to finish 13 holes!! We actually walked off at that point and went for a beer. This is where we met both of the groups who had been behind us who also didn't finish their rounds. If we'd kept going I assume we'd have been on the course for over 5 hours which is insane.
Has potential
First time playing in a while. Still like this course in the dry months. Layout is good and the par 3s are best in the county. Only let down by bunkers and tee boxes. We'll be back
Poor Tee boxes
The course was in average condition, the exception being the greens that were v good. The bunkers were average and the tee boxes (all) were v poor, with no grass and all seemed to be seeded.
Don't go there
Too bad to be true.
Abysmally maintained.
Not a single tee box with grass on it.
Fairways not much better.
Greens black and bald in most places
No sand in the bunkers. Many crusted like concrete.
Bins overflowing with rubbish.
1000s of used tees lying on tee boxes
Litter all over the course
Including used nappies in one copse.
On the whole.....very unpleasant
Poorly Maintained
This course has the potential to be very very good. The layout is very good with some lovely par 3’s and challenging par 4’s. Its a shame that its not maintained to a good level. There was no grass at all on any of the tee boxes and the greens were long and bobbly. Luckily I did not have to pay because we had a voucher but I would have been asking for my money back it I had paid. Its a real shame as it could be a very good course if it was properly looked after. I wont be going back in a hurry!
Brilliant layout. Shame about the tee boxes
It pains me to write this but the course needs some TLC. The tee boxes were awful. They had no grass on them and were heavily sanded. The bunkers were ok but there’s not a lot of sand in them. The greens weren’t very good either, very slow with a lot of black mould patches on the edges and just off the green the grass was all lumpy with are patches on the 18th. Such a shame as I was a member a few years ago but the course seems to be going backwards condition wise.
Such a shame
This used to be a fantastic golf course and the design and course layout is still great, however, the condition of the course has to be the worst I have played in many years.
The tee boxes have no grass, the greens are slow and covered with patches of clover and bare patches and the fairways should be marked GUR in many places.
Overall, a potentially great golf course that has been left to deteriorate and requires a huge amount of TLC.
Linden Hall review.
Played Linden Hall on a Saturday morning and was pleasantly surprised by the good pace of play — the course was very quiet, which meant no waiting around and a nice steady round.
Unfortunately, the condition of the course left a lot to be desired. The tee boxes were in very poor shape; some were so sandy it felt like teeing off from a bunker rather than a proper tee. On top of that, there were lots of broken tees, cigarette butts, and general waste scattered around. It could really benefit from some small bins for broken tees and litter to help keep things tidy.
The greens were also in poor condition, with patches and even roots growing in some areas, making putting unpredictable and frustrating at times.
The halfway house was a highlight — the woman running it was friendly and served us some excellent toasties, which were a great touch during the round.
The course layout itself is nice and easy to follow, making it accessible for all levels. The weather on the day was beautiful, which definitely helped make the round more enjoyable despite the course conditions.
At £30 a round, it’s hard to justify playing here when there are much better options in the area for the same price range.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend playing here at the moment until some much-needed maintenance and care are put into the tees and greens.
Course has been severely neglected
Played today been a while since we played last. The course has never been in the best of condition but it's a good layout and a good challenge. The tee boxes if you can call them that are an absolute disgrace. The grass has completely burnt away and there basically just sand. It wouldn't be so bad but there's huge holes in them too. It's not just the odd tee box it's all of them!!! The fairways aren't too bad to be honest. The bunkers aren't great but playable. The greens aren't great either. It's like playing on winter greens. There bumpy and there’s areas of grass missing on some greens aswell. The course needs serious investment. We payed £30. It wasn't worth £25 tbh. Overall a course with so much potential but let down by lack of maintenance..
Course Review 25th June 2025
Played today paid £30 and was extremely disappointed in the condition. I don't like leaving poor reviews as we don't always know the financial circumstances of a golf course, however being a MacDonald Hotel course I did not expect the poor standards.
Tee boxes were absolutely terrible. either no or very little grass and covered in sand, or dead, brown patchy grass. One even had a rabbit scratching in the middle between the yellow blocks. Overall tees 2/10. Fairways ok 5/10. Bunkers, was in a few and got out so playable just looked poorly maintained 4/10. Greens, unfortunately not what to expect in summer, at best they were to the standard you would expect after a heavy winter, very patchy, uneven and slow. and holes ragged. 3.5/10. Surprisingly we all putted ok as there was not much break and as slow, just hit it at the middle got a good chance, Staff in shop and clubhouse great, very pleasant. Green keepers gave us a nod as we passed them. The course is a great layout with some cracking par 3's, hope they manage to recover the course as I am sure the staff are more than capable. Won't return this season, will try again next year.
Lovely Setting, Interesting Course
Scenic Northumberland and plentuful wildlife always on offer here. Course is mostly excellent. Some bunkers need a tidy, a couple marked as GUR. Greens and Fairways are good. Tees still recovering from the dry spring, but flat and firm if a little sandy. Staff excellent and the Linden Tree pub is very welcoming at the end.
