Great course

Not played here for yonks as it has been out of our price range. Bargain price came up £20 , so couldn’t resist. Wasn’t expecting much ie winter greens/tees but no- the course was in great condition, all greens and tees spot on… had normal wheels on my cart but rented one with winter wheels for a fiver

Great course, super interesting. Long and hilly but certainly playable. Course was in good nick. Club house and pro shop is a little tired but is reflected in the green fees. We paid 33 quid which I thought was reasonable for such a fun course.

Very very good course, maintained to a high standard.

Brilliant course, one of the best in Manchester. It is on the longer side so if you’re new to golf bear that in mind. Immaculate greens and fairways and the staff are really friendly. Only thing that was a con was the pace of play, but that wasn’t the direct fault of the clubs and more the group in front of us.

Course conditions

I have previously played this course in the summer with no issues. Upon arrival we were told that two holes were closed. The course was in a bad way with heavy mud in places and the majority of the course being waterlogged. Mats were in use on the tee box and these were in bad condition. The greens were in a bad way with mud all over them and they mirrored the fairway of a course we have previously played. Disappointed to play and I would have expected the course to be closed or at least let us know the conditions and hole closures ahead of time.

Disappointing. Hostile members. Shame.

Played here as a visiting 4 ball on Monday 11th March. Arrived not realising we needed fairway mats, no problem as we bough a couple to share between us and I joked with the guy from the shop that we barely hit many fairways so wouldn’t be using them much.

Few strange experiences with the members during our round. The first was that a 3 ball demanded to be let through whilst we were teeing off on the 5th whilst they were walking to their approach shots on the 4th. We hit our tee shots and then waited a good 10-15 mins for them to go through with barely a thank you.

We were then visited by the guy from shop after the 9th hole who asked us to ‘look him in the eye and tell him we were playing off the mats’ to which I replied that we 100% were and we had actually found another one by the so had 3 between 4. He said that the 3 ball behind us had called him up because he had seen us not using the mats. I said that anything on the fairway, we had 100% been using them. A few of us are members at local courses and we absolutely understand the necessity of using fairway mats during the winter.

We were then approached by the said 3 ball after the 10th hole, one of which was very aggressive and angry that we weren’t using the mats. He said that he saw one of us take some grass during a practice swing from the rough on the 10th. We said we have been told that the mats were for fairways to which he replied that wasn’t true and it is mats everywhere, including the rough and the trees. Clearly a misunderstanding as we weren’t told that at the start or even when we were checked in on after the 9th so we carried on the round using them everywhere. The member, who was wearing a white Puma hat, was very hostile when he really didn’t need to be and it was not a good look for the club at all.

We were told by the same guy later on to ‘speed up’ our fairway pace as there were golfers behind them. We finished the round in 3 hours 55 which as a 4 ball who had to wait for members to play through, isn’t slow.

Shame.

3rd NOV 2023

Arrived early and went on putting green, it was ok nothing special same for chipping green and nets 6.5/10. Holes 1-17 open 18 shut not sure why it looked the same as all the other holes when we walked it to get back to the car park after 17( Golf now never notifys you of this when you make a booking , probably best to call the course before you make a booking to ask what’s open durin winter). Most tees are off matts a couple were off a winter tee box in a fair condition grass wise, 1st tee matt makes you think wow these winter tees will be good but after the 1st they are not up to the same standard as the new astro on that one. Fairways are in decent condition probably because everyone is playing off matts which again this site doesn’t notify you about. Greens were ok, were not blown away by them, wouldn’t say they are quite up to the same par as the Worsley Marriott or hart common in Bolton. Overall wasn’t bad, our golf was poor, probably wouldn’t be in a mad rush to play it again but probably better to play this course in summer. Thanks

Fantastic course

I’ve played this course a few times now and always loved it, great long course and challenging, there’s all different types of holes and the greens as true as they come, never been held up and have come across loads of its members to have a good chat with, had at least 3 different groups saying hello and helping you with anything you need to know, if it’s the changing facilities, the course or the bar, everyone was really welcoming and friendly, the pro there remembered me even tho I hadn’t been and played there since before Covid, same again great guy and great welcome, I’d play this course every week if I could get on! Trust me ladies and Gents, you will not be disappointed at anything to do with this course, book it whenever you get chance and enjoy

Great greens

Considering the weather conditions the course was in good condition. Tee boxes were good and the greens were great. Some really interesting holes as well. Enjoyable course that plays long in the wet.

Biggest negative was the pace of play. Behind a 4 ball in the 7th hole who decided their aim of the day was not to not let us through until quite hilariously the 17th hole. Shame.
