Oldham Golf Club
First round after lockdown. Easy to book, no queuing, no waiting on tees. The greens were a bit bumpy. The fairways in good condition. The course is basically split into two. First 8 are all pretty flat. The next 10 are mostly either uphill or across a hill with either a left to right or right to left slope on the fairways and consequently you had to be very straight to avoid running off into the rough. There were a number of holes were you couldn’t see the flag.
All in all an enjoyable if hilly course. Wouldn’t like to play it in a strong wind, it was hard enough with 16 mph gusts. Would definitely play again now I know where the greens and traps are. Well worth £15. Very friendly staff and members.
Lee Fellows
Lovely course and 1st time playing here, leave your driver at home would be my advice!
Ground was really boggy and very soft in most areas
Some greens were un useable full of sand and tread marks from vehicles
Golf on a cold day
I booked the course on golf now last minute
And was pleasantly surprised the course is in very good condition and has good drainage the first 9 holes are flat and open and the last 9 are on the hill hard work but worth it we was using course mats to tee off and are own on the course
But overall course good and good value for money
Welcoming and accessible
Despite the really wet conditions prior the fairways were in really good nick. Oldham is known for its challenging back 9, yet the greens played superbly considering the time of year. Some of the members playing were friendly and welcoming and no one was rushing you along.
A really enjoyable morning
Tough challenging course
Was allowed straight on which was great.
1st is irons off tee due to road.
Then a gradual meander around the course making your way up to a climax at 16 with panoramic views.
A few blind shots where a picture on tee would have helped.
Otherwise a great day's golf
Thanks Oldham see you again in summer
Course almost to ourselves
We booked a two ball last minute as the sun was shining and we could get a range of tee times at Oldham. This was our second time there and all we enjoyed it a lot more as we had a better idea of the layout and where to aim tee shots. The course is on good condition although the tee boxes are a bit rough on a few of the holes. Played reasonably well and enjoyed the mix of holes and the doors of play was excellent as it was so quiet. Excellent value for money and looking forward to going back.
Nice course to play.
Oldham is a nice course to play very hilly on 11th to 16th and and these holes are all blind. Aiming at white maker post and not knowing where your ball as landed, even when you know your shot was a good one and when you get to your ball it's not there very frustrating. But would play it again in the future.
Not as good as it was
Last time I played the course was in superb condition. That was about 14 months ago.
On arrival I got the third degree about how much I payed and was told it was too cheap and shouldn’t be up for that price (hot deal £13). Hopefully this is just a mis communication in the staff and won’t happen again.
Once on the course found the pace of play to be pretty good. Fairways were in good condition. No semi rough to speak of and fairly deep rough if you go off line.
Greens were slow and woolly in general apart from the of one or two which were lighting fast.
Also still not a fan of the ban of drivers from the first tee. I can kind of understand it but several clubs are in a similar position and will still allow drivers to be used.
I hope they can pick back up to where they were previously, unfortunately I won’t be making another visit.
Shocking
turned up tee off 9am,no clubhouse open so no scoreboard available. First 9 holes is played with foot golf flags mixed in last 9 holes nearly all blind and a mountain to walk up with 1 green with 2 flags on so didnt know which was which, finished the round and clubhouse was open and guy blamed us for playing in that kind of weather. very unprofessional and will not be going back in my life time to play that course no thankyou
Challenging back 9
great course but tough for a high handicap especially if you have bad weather as we did on the back 9. Back 9 all up hill but great views and challenging holes. Everyone very friendly who we came across and not very busy either which is always a win!
Challenging for first timer
First of all, after booking and paying on Golfnow, i was told i had to pay extra when entering the clubhouse. This annoyed me straight away. Challenging course for someone who has never played before. The front 9 is more open, and good scores can be gained by good players. The back 9 is more challenging as there are a lot of blind pins, and if you dont hit it straight you will lose the ball. I would try it again now i know the course layout. Very hilly, but not a bad course
Good course
Surprised at how good the course was despite the wet weather. Greens were excellent.
Hilly but good
I really enjoyed Oldham.
There are a lot of hills, blind shots & no par 5's, but it was an enjoyable round.
The front 8 are fairly gentle, a few undulations, but nothing silly. From the 9th it goes up hill & that's where it gets tough.
I loved the quirkiness of some of the holes & the view from the top over Lancashire is breathtaking.
Definitely worth a visit if you're fit.
