Challenging but forgiving (mostly)

Fairways 8

Tee boxes 7

Greens 3

Beautiful, quiet and varied course unfortunately let down by bobbly and inconsistent greens. The fairways and 1st cut were obviously longer winter cut but actually played pretty well.

Staff were average at best but will be returning as it's close to home and reasonable through hot deals, however I wouldn't pay full price for a round until the greens get some tlc.

Nice knock

Played here following a heavy downpour over the few days before. Course held up well with the exception of a couple of greens not getting much light and therefore a bit softer. Will go back.

Few ingrediants missing from being a top course

First time playing this course today. Staff friendly and helpful and the lay out of the actual track is good, but the condition of the greens and hazards were very poor!! Throw into the mix that there is no signage around the course or even just simple hole numbers on the tee boxes made things harder to navigate yourself round. If you have a garmin watch/device dont bother loading satellites it doesn’t pick up one hole. Real shame as there is so much potential with this course stunning grounds and great Hotel. Price point needs a look at, ive played £10-£15 courses in better nick

Glorious day

Had an amazing visit for the 1st time to this beautiful course. Loved the variety from hole to hole, I.e. tight fairway but large green followed by a long forgiving fairway followed by tricky green. The overall play was brilliant. Tees were well maintained and the fairways were excellent. The rough, as I unfortunately found a few times was nicely playable on most occasions. The only downside would be the state of the greens. Had been recently aerated which made them bumpy and inconsistent on speed from green to green.

Overall an awesome sunny day. Will definitely return.

Don't bother

2 or 3 of the holes were like bomb alley majority of the people we saw I don't believe had a handicap and not very much etiquette. The green were atrocious foll of dry mud were work had been carried out but had not cleared the mess. Majority of people that were playing I presume were staying at the hotel for the weekend as they were large groups teeing off at the same time. Pace of play was very slow 4.5 hrs to complete a course that is not that long. Will not be playing again unless I hear of vast improvements. Not worth £20 a round better value at other courses not that far away.

Lovely course, shocking greens

Played this weekend and the course was in good condition, but the greens were horrible - they'd been socred or aired recently but just had sand / soil dumped on them - lumps and heaps of the mixture everywhere over the greens.

Poor greens

Disappointed with the greens being well aware green maintenance has to be done we were disappointed that all the greens had been sanded seeded airated and cut with no collection of clippings . Very poor standard for the price paid in fact we would have played elsewhere had we known about this .

Owston Poor Greenkeeping

Tees: Fair

Fairways: Well maintained

Bunkers : Fair

Green: Shocking

The greens had been air rated, sanded and seeded on a +20°c day and fringe grass cuttings left all over the greens. Every green. Meaning every putt needing clearing beforehand. Don't mind this once in a blue moon but being notified of green maintenence would be helpful. Doubtful we will return as a course like Rufford with it's emaculate greens in closer and only £5 more. Disappointed after our first visit.

Misrepresentation

Where to start....Decent signage to access the place.. First tee in appalling condition and this set the tone for the whole round. A hammer would have been useful in order to sink a tee peg on several tees. Course signage non-existent, bunkers generally poor. Greens rock hard, some were weedy. Spend some money on this course to meet the hype! I won't ever play this course again. I can't believe anyone is gullible enough to pay for yearly membership!

Great, Fun Course

Me and the boys really enjoyed our first round here. Greens are a good challenge with a few raised ones and hazards are well thought out where there was a fair few risk/reward moments. Feel the second time playing will be even more enjoyable now having a bit course knowledge.

Owston Golf

The course is quite challenging but very poorly signposted. No tee boxes with distance and hole layout. Our Garmin watches were confused to say the least. In better condition than last time we played.

Course condition dreadful

Greens bunkers covered in weeds, tee boxes where a mess. Clearly no attempt at keeping the course in any kind of decent condition.

Better than expected

I read a few reviews which led to me not having great expectations but we were pleasantly surprised. The course is in pretty good condition, greens were true with good pace, fairways were also in good condition. Some of the tees need some work but most were reasonable enough. Signage needs improving with directions to the next tee and some tee numbering and yardages would help a lot. Overall though a thoroughly enjoyable round of golf on a Saturday morning for £20, spot on.

Much improved

Left a review a couple of months ago about the source condition being poor, happy to say I’ve tried it again and it has been brought back up to a very good standard, no more weeds and daisy strewn fairways….instead, nicely cut fairways, well maintained greens and clean tee boxes.

Well done Owston Hall groundskeeper, you’ve done a great job, keep it up.

Owston hall

Where to start, firstly course would not upload to watch, hole 2 was actually hole 1 so something needs updating. Behind 2 X 3 balls so pace of play should have been OK.

Played 8 holes which took 2 hours 17mins which is ridiculous, could not clearly distinguish between Fairway and rough no yardage markers apart from plastic signage at approximately 150 yards. Really poor quality greens sprinklers left on greens literally flooded. For £20 each per round it was a joke and we won't be returning, it really is very poor. If there was someone to speak to I would be requesting my money back. Played crookhill, headingley, Tankersley, bondhay and phoenix over past 3 weeks. Owston was by far the poorest quality course.
