Owston Poor Greenkeeping

Tees: Fair

Fairways: Well maintained

Bunkers : Fair

Green: Shocking

The greens had been air rated, sanded and seeded on a +20°c day and fringe grass cuttings left all over the greens. Every green. Meaning every putt needing clearing beforehand. Don't mind this once in a blue moon but being notified of green maintenence would be helpful. Doubtful we will return as a course like Rufford with it's emaculate greens in closer and only £5 more. Disappointed after our first visit.

Misrepresentation

Where to start....Decent signage to access the place.. First tee in appalling condition and this set the tone for the whole round. A hammer would have been useful in order to sink a tee peg on several tees. Course signage non-existent, bunkers generally poor. Greens rock hard, some were weedy. Spend some money on this course to meet the hype! I won't ever play this course again. I can't believe anyone is gullible enough to pay for yearly membership!

Great, Fun Course

Me and the boys really enjoyed our first round here. Greens are a good challenge with a few raised ones and hazards are well thought out where there was a fair few risk/reward moments. Feel the second time playing will be even more enjoyable now having a bit course knowledge.

Owston Golf

The course is quite challenging but very poorly signposted. No tee boxes with distance and hole layout. Our Garmin watches were confused to say the least. In better condition than last time we played.

Course condition dreadful

Greens bunkers covered in weeds, tee boxes where a mess. Clearly no attempt at keeping the course in any kind of decent condition.

Better than expected

I read a few reviews which led to me not having great expectations but we were pleasantly surprised. The course is in pretty good condition, greens were true with good pace, fairways were also in good condition. Some of the tees need some work but most were reasonable enough. Signage needs improving with directions to the next tee and some tee numbering and yardages would help a lot. Overall though a thoroughly enjoyable round of golf on a Saturday morning for £20, spot on.

Shocking signposting to find the place for a start

Great set up in the club shop well organised straight off

Course looks care worn tees aren’t numbered which to a first time visitor makes it more like orienteering

Much improved

Left a review a couple of months ago about the source condition being poor, happy to say I’ve tried it again and it has been brought back up to a very good standard, no more weeds and daisy strewn fairways….instead, nicely cut fairways, well maintained greens and clean tee boxes.

Well done Owston Hall groundskeeper, you’ve done a great job, keep it up.

Owston hall

Where to start, firstly course would not upload to watch, hole 2 was actually hole 1 so something needs updating. Behind 2 X 3 balls so pace of play should have been OK.

Played 8 holes which took 2 hours 17mins which is ridiculous, could not clearly distinguish between Fairway and rough no yardage markers apart from plastic signage at approximately 150 yards. Really poor quality greens sprinklers left on greens literally flooded. For £20 each per round it was a joke and we won't be returning, it really is very poor. If there was someone to speak to I would be requesting my money back. Played crookhill, headingley, Tankersley, bondhay and phoenix over past 3 weeks. Owston was by far the poorest quality course.

Oh dear

I played Owston hall years ago just before a ladies pga event and it was spectacular, a 7000 yd monster of a course in pristine condition, with a great infrastructure behind it

It looked then like it would be a top Yorkshire golf venue for years to come

What in gods name has gone so badly wrong here

Owston hall 2021 is a shambolic pale impression of its former self

The course has been butchered on the front 9 with 7 holes apparently designed by a blind farmer whose only connection with golf was a hatchback he owned in the 70s

The rest have been left to the elements, pot holed tee boxes, daisy strewn fairways, rock strewn bunkers indeed only the passable greens attempt to halt the disaster of golf here

Your left to your own devices to find your way round, I’d played it before but got lost several times, and don’t expect the course scorecard to help, it’s miles out

It’s such a shame, yes it was cheap on the golf now app but the £30 buggy charge certainly wasn’t….. scandalous

Chuck in a rude abrupt chump on the phone who clearly isn’t

Equipped for a retail career and I’m afraid it’s a one star golf rating from me

The good bar staff and beer garden made a desperate last ditch effort to push for 2 stars but no… it’s the golf that matters and there’s so much better on offer elsewhere

first time playing

needs a few more signs in place for the new golfers at the course (pointing to club house and each tee)

also the cards need an update due to distances being wrong and lucky I had my golf watch to tell me the right distances.

lost a ball in the middle of the fairway due to the daisy's as well.

Owston hall

Played on the 23/05/21 the course condition was not very good the fairways didn't seem to be very well looked after every green had dozens of pitch marks on them unrepaired by other players they were very bobbly too it was on £15 but I won't be playing there again and I wouldn't recommend it,the only up side to the place is they have a nice club house but even the beer was way over priced at £5.60 a pint

Needs work

Needs lots of work, shame as this could be a fantastic course.

Tees were atrocious, fairways longer than tough, daisies and Dandelions converting the fairways.

Greens saturated clearly a drainage issue on them.

Poorly maintained

Clearly since the course has stopped hosting euro pro events it has been poorly maintained. The fairways had daisys all over so was impossible to see a white ball and the tee boxes were some of the worst I’ve played on.

Greens in good nick however
