Slaley Hall Hotel & Golf - Priestman Course
About
De Vere Slaley Hall owes is existence to Samuel Hunting who first purchased the estate lands in the late 1800's and it remains today a symbol of Edwardian elegance and a grand retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Set amidst 1000 acres of prime Northumbrian forest and moorland, the first nine holes of the Hunting Course opened for play in 1989. By 1990, the completed course won high acclaim and since then it has matured and undergone subtle improvements. The second championship course, the Priestman opens in May 1999.
The Priestman course, designed by PGA Chairman Neil Coles, will be of equal length an standard as the Hunting course, making Slaley Hall one of the few resorts in Britain with two genuine championship courses. Opening in may 1999, the Priestman course is situated in 280 acres on the western side of the estate and will give golfers panoramic views over the Tynedale valley.

Top quality winter course
It’s almost a shame to play such a nice course in the summer for summer prices when it’s just as good in the winter. Both courses too notch and always in good condition all year round
Great course, very wet!
The course was playable but wet!
A few bunker lakes and a few puddles on fairways. Probably to be expected for winter golf, but you would a European tour venue would have slightly better drainage in place.
Good day out none the less and came off 3 and 2 victors!
Stunning views
Great visuals from the course, and some very testing holes. A lot more gradient than The Hunting course and just as well kept.
Great place and having choice of two courses is a bonus
Stunning
Fantastic place to play golf, defo be back just wish the buggy hire was abit cheaper
Great Course
We literally had the course to ourselves and for £14 each that was an absolute steal!
Pro shop staff were friendly and the course was in excellent condition even after all the bad weather.
We couldn’t fault the course or the facilities, Everything was awesome!
Well worth the money
The course is in very good condition considering the amount of rain and frost we have had,it is very green good covering of grass and the greens were first class. Will go back next summer to play when it is warm.
Majestic course but very Challenging
Turned up early and the very pleasant lad at the counter says I could go straight off which was nice of him.
Course is a real challenge with long par 4's and plenty of undulation. With the recent deluge the course had held up remarkably well with just the odd damp spot on the fairway and the occasionally bunker flooded. Despite this the course is in beautiful condition with perfectly cut fairways and the greens run true and are very fast!
The signature hole has to be the 16th which plays just shy of 500 yards and climbs about 1000 yards!
A majestic hole which I very doubt has ever been reached in two before!
I highly recommend this course, easily one of the best in Northumberland, but at least use a trolley and don't carry your bag like one idiot did!!
Moffat Golf Club away day's.
It's been a few year's since we played the Priestman course at Slaley Hall. To cut a long story short it was fantastic, tee's, fairway's and green's were to be praised. The whole experience around the golf course's is that of a very good golf resort where we as a group of very keen golfer's will surely return.
FANTASTIC
Having not played this course for several years I found the course to be in fabulous condition. Tees, fairways and greens were immaculate and the green keepers should feel proud of their achievement. The layout is challenging and the rough is severe to make finding an errant ball impossible, just as you should expect at a top class course. The only downside was the pace of play (4 hours 20 minutes) on a midweek afternoon. Visit for the fabulous course just make sure you leave plenty of time and enjoy the scenic beauty of Northumberland at its best.
Fantastic Round of Golf
Slaley Hall have it nailed. The friendliness and courtesy extended to our group today was second to none. The course recovered well after all the rain it had seen in recent days and played remarkably well. Great Golf Great Hospitality and most importantly Great Staff, We’ll be back
Great course with stunning views
The course was in excellent condition even though there had been torrential rain on Saturday. Probably the best it has been at this time of year for several years. You do need to stay on the fairway to stand a chance of a good score as the grass in the rough is thick and impossible to get out of. Greens in excellent condition.
lovely course and day out
Course was immaculate and great value for money however it is very long and the rough brutal. I would recommend a buggy but be aware the cost is £35 - twice the price of our golf. I think the course knows they have a "captured" audience and price according. Lovely day out though and highly recommend.
