What a cracker

Paid £15 so no great expectations

Really nice course with some great views and some great holes. Course in great nik for time of year. Only one winter green. Will definitely return. Think it will be really good in summer

All staff friendly

Deffo recommend and not just because of price. Played loads of courses in the area charging over double and nowhere near as nice

Windy Consett

The course is currently in good condition (considering the amount of rain we have had recently) with all permanent greens barring one in play. The run back up from the 14th was a bit tough for us due to some quite strong gusts but there isn't much that the club can do about that particular difficulty! However, one thing that the club can sort out is the ever deteriorating road into the course and the somewhat precarious / potholed visitor car parking arrangement - sadly the course is probably always going to be no more than a 4 star visitor experience until some improvements are made.

Need to give it another go.

I have mixed feelings about this course. I had high hopes for it, especially since I’ve just moved to the town. Having played Whickham, South Moor, The Hobson, and Slaley Hall, I felt I needed to tick this one off before deciding where to play as my home course.

I was caught off guard on the first tee. There were no tee times booked ahead of me, so when I set up to tee off, I was confused to see players on the first fairway. I scratched my head and let them play through, only to realise they were coming from the 18th. Basically, if you don’t reach the green on the 18th, your ball will almost certainly end up on the first fairway — which isn’t ideal.

As others have noted, there are a lot of sloping fairways, which can be frustrating for the average golfer.

A few holes also feel quite cramped — especially the par three down near the green sheds. It’s not the most attractive view when you’re looking at metal fencing and sheds. As much as we love the sport, part of the enjoyment is the walk and the scenery, so aesthetics matter. That said, there is some great scenery thanks to the valley setting.

The 7th hole, although daunting at first glance, is a beautiful hole and extremely satisfying when you hit a good tee shot. The same goes for the 12th — hit a solid drive and you’re rewarded with a great view as it flies.

At this stage, I wouldn’t say it’s a bad course at all, but I do think others in the area are better. I plan to play it again to see if it changes my opinion.

Decent enough

Maintenance work scheduled, but didn’t affect us. We were advised on GolfNow before booking.

We booked as a 2-ball, but the 2-ball in front asked if we could play together. Had a good round overall with Keith and Bryn even if I did slow the pace (but we let the following group play through us).

Every time I have played the course it’s been a great day, the members are always pleasant and welcoming. The same goes for the greens staff.

Poor Layout

You start at the top of a hill and zig zag down, meaning every fairway is tilted to the left or the right. You are also playing along side the other holes so it is tight. The course opens up a bit and becomes playable. Then you finish with some terrible holes. The 18th being up on a ledge, with a tiny green. Don't bother with this course, there is far better in the area.

Wet and windy at Consett

Course currently in very good condition - wind & rain made play a bit difficult during our visit as parts of the course are quite exposed to the elements - for anyone that hasn't played Consett before its worth a visit if you are up for a challenge and the views out over the North Pennines are spectacular - the course is tough in places (especially the aptly named Heartbreak Hill) with bogey often feeling like a reasonable score on some of the long par 4 holes but there are scoring opportunities for the thinking player when you are familiar with the course.

Decent course

Decent course for the area, but we found some of the greens could do with a little bit more sun on them.

This wouldn’t stop us from returning though.

Stunning golf course

We played Consett a number of times over the last 20 years and every time we visit it is a treat. I it is always in pristine condition overall—-greens, tee boxes, fairways and the bunkers have good amount and texture of sand. The scenery surrounding the course is truly stunning. The layout is challenging and yet not gruelling. I consider Consett to be one of the best course in Durham county or perhaps the best.

Is this the only course you’ve played in Co. Durham? The place is the pits.

I take it you haven't played any other courses in Durham then?

Sunny ideal day.

We played on this well maintained course, using winter mats as requested.. A fantastic sunny day and a great game on the very quiet course. Only saw one deer today. The fairways where quite well drained and the greens were in very good condition.

Very reasonable hot spot deal and will certainly return.

The hills were certainly a work out and pleasantly challenging.

Totally enjoyed it
