Slaley Hall Hotel & Golf - Priestman Course
About
De Vere Slaley Hall owes is existence to Samuel Hunting who first purchased the estate lands in the late 1800's and it remains today a symbol of Edwardian elegance and a grand retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Set amidst 1000 acres of prime Northumbrian forest and moorland, the first nine holes of the Hunting Course opened for play in 1989. By 1990, the completed course won high acclaim and since then it has matured and undergone subtle improvements. The second championship course, the Priestman opens in May 1999.
The Priestman course, designed by PGA Chairman Neil Coles, will be of equal length an standard as the Hunting course, making Slaley Hall one of the few resorts in Britain with two genuine championship courses. Opening in may 1999, the Priestman course is situated in 280 acres on the western side of the estate and will give golfers panoramic views over the Tynedale valley.

Golfer Reviews
Great course greens were poor
Great looking course with interesting and rewarding holes. Only negative point about the course, greens were rather poor but for 15 pounds can't moan to much. Only real complaint was the fact that we booked for a two ball and ended up getting forced out with another 2 players we didn't know, luckily they were nice people or could have really ruined the day for us!!
Priestman Course
Very enjoyable and well kept course greens weren't the best tho.
Great Day Out
Good valve for money with teeoff, too many people on the course but to be expected as a Hotel attached. Would definitely recommend and would play again.
Slaley Hall Priestman Course
A good test, not as difficult as The Hunting. Could not fault the condition of the course. The 16th is a bit of climb at the end of the round.
Good course, nice location
i have played the Priestman once before, on a day when the Senior Tour were playing the Huntsman... cold, damp and windy from memory. Yesterday was the polar opposite - warm, sunny (but still breezy). The course was quite dry - great for hitting long bounding drives that carry for ages... but not so great on the 18th when my tee shot (probably best of the day) caught a bank and ran on into a pond near the green.
The greens were in good condition - fairly fast and the course was generally also well maintained.
The bar is expensive (£5 for a pint of lager!) but nice and comfortable
Course in good condition, and the course is set up fairly.
Off course facilities excellent.
