Lots of potential
First time playing the course, a pleasant experience.
The clubhouse is beautifully presented, a very inviting place for a pre round coffee and watch a few people off the 10th tee.
Our round was quite slow, in excess of 4 hours behind a four-ball.
The course itself has potential, the layout has interest, with a nice variety of hole design. The layout has a series of tee shots that are played over brows or to blind landing areas, where the addition of some marker posts and bells might be advantageous.
Course conditions were largely very good but bunkers were heavily used, with many footprints throughout.
Great course
Second time playing here and was similarly impressed
Young chap in pro shop was friendly
We were following a 4 ball so as a 2 we were expecting a slow day but we kept going and lads in front kept going as well
Being a youngish course it’s open to the sea breeze
4 ball ducked out at 9th for a brew so we went through which was a bonus
Ended round after 3:15 so was a good walk
Marked improvement
Following bad experience last January, we ventured onto course in brilliant sunshine to experience fairways in good condition, providing opportunities to gain distance due to firmness of same.
Greens were , on average, fair with room for improvement but overall the course was in good condition & certainly worthy of future visits as per last spring/ summer.
Whilst course is not over challenging, it provides value for money, with the “19th hole providing plenty of choice of both food & drink!!
We will return!!!
Recommended to try here!
Workmates recommended that I try a round here. Played Sunday afternoon, Staff very friendly, helpful and pre booked tee time sorted no problem. Front 9 a good selection of holes with challenging bunkers, my ball does seem to like a good bunker! Back 9 a bit more hilly with two holes requiring a water crossing, cleared the first but on the second landed the ball straight into the water! Good course, nice and dry, good selection of holes and the wind adds another challenge
Very nice course
Very nice course to play. Pace of play has been very good each time we’ve played there aswell. Nice bar n seating area to have a pint after round n watch people tee off on tenth n play in on 18
Improving.
I’ve played at Staining for several years.
The course condition gets better each year. Great value off peak.
Definitely getting a much bigger following of golfers playing here year on year.
Great clubhouse but v slow play
Great clubhouse and like the course layout. Disappointing that on hole 10 they were allowing groups to jump in front of you half way around. this spoiled our game as was flowing nicely until that point . Also fairways need a lot of work some couldn't tell where fairway started and rough ended.
No title
Was very bogged but obviously due to recent weather conditions
Bit boggy......
Probably shouldn't have been open, to say it was boggy would a slight understatement. Lost 2 balls in the fairway and nearly lost my shoes on several occasions. Can't be to critical as it is January and it had peed it down for 2 days. Will go in the summertime as its a nicely laid out course
The course should have been closed!!
Having played this course many times before(mainly during summer season)I was very disappointed with the course conditions!! Each and every fairway was extremely muddy, bordering on quagmire Conditions in many places, whilst the first green had a large area of standing water. Overall, a very disappointing day, and an embarrassment to me having 2 guests playing with me for the first time on this course.!!
In essence, we should have walked off the course, but we battled on , taking some 4.5 hours to complete, feeling totally worn out by the time we got back to car park! Our golf shoes were totally covered with mud, and no proper facilities to wash down were available, resulting in us using any manner or means to try & clean prior to placing in boot of brand new car!!!
Talking to several other players, they too were complaining about conditions and, like ourselves, had far fewer golf balls than when they first started!!!
Unfortunately, there was no one to question about our experience back at the club shop, thus no satisfaction there either!!
Whilst I can appreciate there had been heavy rainfall in previous days, I feel that the course should definitely have been closed and appropriate refund made whereby I may have identified an alternative course( somewhat nearer to home:45 miles away), and played that instead!
Feedback on this script would be appropriate, and perhaps apology/ recompense be forthcoming?!!
Hi Roberjs I’m sorry you had a bad experience. When conditions are poor we often open to members but always brief visitors of the conditions in the shop at check in. We usually offer the option of trying a few holes with the option of moving your booking to another time. It depends how desperate you are to play! If you want to play again please contact me directly at the club and I will arrange for a complimentary round. I hope your experience hasn’t put you off coming back.
Great track
Anyone who came to play golf here won't be disappointed.
Great winter course
You can see they have really worked on ensuring the course drains well. No standing water anywhere. Always a pleasure to play here.
First 2 greens played a little slow, after that the rest were a better pace and very consistent.
The course is in good condition
Enjoyed playing this course, booked online, it said buggies were £10 but was charged £20. Have to use a buggie for medical reasons, far too expensive for me. Buggies usually average £15 most places, only top hotels charge £20. Can’t afford to play here!
