Hot and sunny
I play here a few times a year, when I get a little bored of my own course.
The greens are a little hard due to the hot weather but the rest of the course was spot on.
A real gem.
Last time I played Stocksfield was over 20 years ago, my son and I decided to play Stocksfield while on a weeks holiday, the front nine was as testing as I remember tree lined and putting accuracy at a premium, the back nine although being more “open” has matured very well and provided a nice changed of emphasis and allowed the driver to come out more.
The greens were superb, smooth and quick with subtle and not so subtle undulations. I certainly won’t be waiting another 20 years to return to Stocksfield, also the clubhouse, staff and professional were extremely helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend.
Stocksfield Golf Club
A tremendous course only bettered I would say by Hexham but don’t let that fool ya. A total gem of a course. Fairways are tight so driving accuracy a total must. Greens were in fabulous condition and not a blade of grass out of place. Holes are not very long but still need to be acurate or you’ll end up in the trees! Totally recommend this course.
Playing stocksfield golf club
Throughly enjoyed playing the course very hilly n lot of dog legs but great layout would definitely play it again
Challenging Stocksfield!
Course is in very good condition and is a credit to the hard work of the green keeping staff – the only negative being some bunkers which weren’t 100% but I suspect that this was more down to lazy players not tidying up after themselves rather than any fault on the part of the club. The front nine play through a quite heavily wooded area over an undulating landscape with some quite significant elevation changes – it’s very tight in places and can be quite punishing. The back nine are a bit more open but still no push over. I would thoroughly recommend the course - the only caveat being that it will be very intimidating for those that are relatively new to the game. Sadly there are a couple of negative aspects – our party and the party in front of us got stuck behind a four ball that were using buggies [and had a thirty minute head start on us!] – eventually they let the party in front of us play through but we weren’t waved through and had to pace ourselves for about 10 holes. Also, due to the volume of players, the current car park is very congested and is probably no longer fit for purpose – the club need to start thinking about either expanding the car park or eliminating the “reserved” spaces as this situation will probably only get worse in the future.
Game of two halves
The front nine very testing with tight tree lined fairways, accuracy off the tee is a must, back nine very open but still a good test with sloping fairways taking your ball away from where it landed running off the fairways. Greens well laid out, with difficult approaches on may greens
Stocksfield fairways lined with trees
Tough course especially the first 9 with trees along all the fairways really challenging but excellent course .to play on .
Brilliant course!
From the moment we arrived the staff were brilliant and friendly. Course was well looked after and brilliant to play on.
Harris
Weather was shocking for at least half of the round - lashing rain, hailstones etc - but course held up pretty well. Course was in decent nick. Staff were friendly. Will definitely play the course again when hopefully the weather is better !!!!!
