Good day
Course in good condition. Greens were good also. Weather was windy and cold. Not many on so pace of play was good. Need to play more now courses are open. Did not play well. More practice needed. Still enjoyed the day.
Value in the cold
Considering the time of year (December) and how busy the course is and has been, it is in great condition. We have struggled to find courses in Manchester that have held up under the poor weather we have had over the past few weeks. However, Werneth, considering all the rain and no let-up from it, it is in great condition. Granted a few temp greens which is expected. But for the money and ability to play its well worth it and a great knock. Will visit in the summer.
The course isn't too challenging, but again, for the want to play it is a great little course.
Very windy but enjoyable day
We played on a very windy day 2 days before Christmas. The course was in good condition considering the season, winter greens were used on some holes however many real greens in operation. The course is short but tight. We also found that many holes we had the wind with included a hazard driving range away so weren’t able to take full advantage. Overall the experience was a good one, just a shame we weren’t able to have a post round pint. (Covid rules)
A friendly club and good challenge
From an initial really warm welcome, the friendliness continued around with locals and members all pleasant and helping you navigate the 'brook' and the best ways to go over it etc.
Considering the really wet conditions, the course played very well and with only a handful of 'winter greens' made for a good challenge. Winter mats required which is expected
Great condition for the time of year!
Course was in great condition, members were friendly and pro was great helping sort booking!
Interesting
First time here. Tight course, didn't use the driver often. Great use of the ravine - an exceptional feature. Excellent layout maximising space, Superb views too. Little bit boggy off the fairways but, you know, November in north west England, of course it is. Absolutely going to play here again. Hopefully will have shaken off this 'topping' habit by then. Not the courses fault though.
Little gem
From start to finish had a great day, even though the we had had a lot of rain the course was in good condition. Some very clever holes and well laid out. The pro was an absolute gentleman very helpful and present. Ask for the course map as this will help you around. We can’t wait for the lock down to be over so we can play it again. Thanks to all staff at werneth
Good course
First time playing. It was a nice course. Fairly flat with a ravine running through the middle which comes into play across several holes offering a nice challenge.
Better day.
Played this course again. Played much better this time. Coufse was in good condition. A bit wet in places. Green were very good. Well maintained. It is short but challenging. That ravine, something else. Second time around signage was easier. Will play this regularly.staff were friendly and members are good fun.
Good course with some challenging holes.
Not the best of days. Golf game was off . All aspects. Just could not hit anything. The course played well though. Some challenging holes across the chasm. Signing for tees could be improved. Greens were good. Pace of play was good. Would play again. Though hopefully be able to hit my shots a lot better. Enjoyed the round.
Returned and loved it
Couldn't fault my afternoons golf here. When I arrived the pro was out, but left a note and was back at the specified time. The practice green is well kept and there is one bay for hitting the longer stuff in your warmup.
The course was nice and quiet, so wayward drives were less of an issue- but it was much firmer than the last time I was here- dry feet all the way round. The fairways are very well maintained, and the rough is better than some fairways I've played on. A handful of divots on the greens, but that's to be expected late in the day.
Excellent value for money, but not for complete beginners!
I've really conflicting opinions about this course.
The good- The fairways and rough were of a good length, and the greens played quite well considering the rain. The bloke in the pro shop was very helpful, and provided a map as it was my first visit. The locals on the course were friendly, helpful and considerate, as were the maintenance staff.
The bad- The fairways were quite squelchy underfoot- just about playable from, but not pleasant. The gorge was a big problem for me. Not only did it claim a fair few balls, but (combined with the tight, criss-cross nature of the course) was a bit of a worry that I'd hit other players, certainly as a beginner.
I'll definitely be back, but it'll be when I'm a bit more confident in my abilities!
