Whitburn Golf Club

Excellent winter golf location good course conditions considering the recent rain fall. The club house made me a bacon sandwich it was after 10am which is good for January. Very friendly staff. I recommend it for great winter golf.

Course was unfortunately on temporary greens, which although is disappointing, can’t be helped at this time of year and is a chance you take playing in the winter.

No problem.

However, what was more disappointing, and the reason for feeling a little cheated was, a group of visiting lads just like us, we’re given free play for the course by the club pro because of the ground being frozen and temporary greens in play.

A bit galling when we’d paid £25 each and the same pro never so much as offered even a partial refund or reduced price return on a better day.

Still, we enjoyed the day and the hospitality in the clubhouse was excellent. It’s a good course and will visit again in the future.

I turned up at the course having already paid to be told they were on temporary greens and I should have been contacted and advised about this. I wasn’t. Completely spoiled my round.

While playing the course I could see that the adjacent course South Shields was still on normal greens I abandoned my round at Whitburn and went next door.

Played this course for the first time on Sunday. Booked it through Golf Now at £30 per person, based on the reviews I had read before hand. Course conditions OK, pace of play good and fellow golfers we met around the course were great. The frustration came when we arrived at 8am to be told that the whole course was on winter greens. No communication from the course to suggest this prior to arriving. I booked 4 days in advance. Not even a voice left to inform me. £60 for 18 holes with poor winter greens is not on.

Nice course play it a lot only problem latest round the bunkers were hard pan and hardly any sand (at least the two I was in were) whereas in the past bunkers have been really nice

Outstanding course, breathtaking views and great value.

Outstanding course in beautiful surroundings, for less than £25 on a Saturday.

The greens were the best I’ve seen in the past few seasons. The staff were very friendly and the home made pie was splendid.

The staff in shop were very helpful advising on course layout.

The course is relatively short - par 70- with par 5’s reachable. Some very interesting/ visually attractive.

Some members extremely accommodating letting a 2 ball through though 1 stubbornly refused despite clearly holding us up for 9 holes having lost at least 4 holes themselves. May not have to let us through but it was the thing that spoiled the course experience. Club house vey accommodating and friendly

2nd time back here in as many weeks.

Course condition is outstanding and the greens are unreal compared to the winter.

A very nice course by the sea with some interesting holes.

We played on a lovely day but if windy and wet it will show its teeth.

Superb greens.

Will play again
