Upgrade works ongoing

Didn't play the course under the best circumstances. Still winter tees, 5 temporary greens, lots of upgrade works ongoing, such as modifying or adding bunkers. Many bunkers are now GUR. The course was rather muddy, but still playable. Disregarding the above the course is quite nice, though quite a few blind shots, not my favourite. The weather also did not cooperate, with heavy fog coming up after the first few holes. So no chance to enjoy the scenery (the views of the coastline are said to be spectacular).

Arriving at the club the staff in the proshop and clubhouse were very welcoming.

Overal enjoyed the round and may come back .... after the upgrade works are completed.

Nice views

Overall

5-6 winter greens, big machines digging new bunkers in the way, few holes you play across peoples holes bit dangerous but overall will be a nice course when finished

Bit hilly up and down, but last few holes over road had a special few and cliff tee off

Very disappointed

Such a shame to not know that there was multiple temp greens in play before we played. Wouldn’t have booked and most certainly wouldn’t have expected to pay the price we did!

Can’t wait for the course to be fully open though

Winter Golf at its best

Played Whitburn today, in January. The course is in great shape with only a small number of winter greens. Greens in good shape, no standing water anywhere on course. Whitburn seem to be heavily investing in the course with numerous new bunkers, green shaping and grassed mounds adding to the topography of the course. Really enjoyed today. I will be back.

Good Winter golf location

Excellent winter golf location good course conditions considering the recent rain fall. The club house made me a bacon sandwich it was after 10am which is good for January. Very friendly staff. I recommend it for great winter golf.

Felt somewhat cheated ?

Course was unfortunately on temporary greens, which although is disappointing, can’t be helped at this time of year and is a chance you take playing in the winter.

No problem.

However, what was more disappointing, and the reason for feeling a little cheated was, a group of visiting lads just like us, we’re given free play for the course by the club pro because of the ground being frozen and temporary greens in play.

A bit galling when we’d paid £25 each and the same pro never so much as offered even a partial refund or reduced price return on a better day.

Still, we enjoyed the day and the hospitality in the clubhouse was excellent. It’s a good course and will visit again in the future.

Temporary greens

I turned up at the course having already paid to be told they were on temporary greens and I should have been contacted and advised about this. I wasn’t. Completely spoiled my round.

While playing the course I could see that the adjacent course South Shields was still on normal greens I abandoned my round at Whitburn and went next door.

Poor communication

Played this course for the first time on Sunday. Booked it through Golf Now at £30 per person, based on the reviews I had read before hand. Course conditions OK, pace of play good and fellow golfers we met around the course were great. The frustration came when we arrived at 8am to be told that the whole course was on winter greens. No communication from the course to suggest this prior to arriving. I booked 4 days in advance. Not even a voice left to inform me. £60 for 18 holes with poor winter greens is not on.
