Great greens
Great course, will be better when they finish off the building of club house etc
Awesome track
Wide fairways. Interesting layout. The greens have more undulations than any I have ever played !
Big and challenging fun. Highly recommend !!
Fun course but slow play
Very good course and a lot of fun to play. Only hiccup was the slow pace. Took almost 5hrs to play.
Greens are really fast
The greens were extremely fast but the course is beautiful and fairways are wide. Really a neat experience!!!
GREAT COURSE WITH TOUGH GREENS
This is my very favorite course in the area. It features wide open landing areas so you can blast away, but very tough greens which put a premium on good approach shots and skilled lag-putting. Pace of play is usually OK but this time was more than 4:30 which I think is too slow for a course designed for skilled players.
Greens are unreal!
This place was really nice. The greens are unbelievable. Three of us played, all single-digits, and none of us were prepared for the speed and sloping conditions. Up and downs look so simple but the ball just rolls forEVER.
I don’t have anything negative to say. They have those weird bunker/cart path combos made of gravelly sand. Pretty neat.
Oh...and BRING YOUR DRIVER. I have never seen fairways this wide. It made the whole experience more fun. The difficulty comes with the green complexes and approach shots.
The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is price. I booked through the course and they were going to charge $150. Just on a whim I checked GolfNow and they were only charging $89 for premium first-of-the-day tee times! $60 savings!!! Seems a little shady that the course was going to just let me overpay that much. Also (and I know this is nobody’s fault) there is a CRAZY amount of construction going on right now. Every hole had something in view that had power tools and Cuban music blaring. A little distracting but didn’t ruin the day.
Wow! A must play in the area
A fantastic new course in the area. Hills, water, perfect greens, thoughtmaking designs. It Was reminesent to two PGA West Palmer courses I have played in CA.
Good if you get it for less than $50
Good course overall. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are in excellent condition. Greens are tough and fast. Get ready for some 3 putts. Takes getting used to for most amateurs. First time you play you are likely to lose some strokes due to lack of layout knowledge.
Pace of play was far too slow. Took about 4:45. The course has no marshals on the course to speed up slow players. They need at least one marshal per 9 to ensure that the time to play does not exceed 4:20.
Unless you could care less about money, I would only recommend playing this course if you get a tee time for less than $50. Otherwise, I would not play here again.
Amenities
Off course amenities are under construction and I'm sure they will be amazing when completed.
Beautifull condition.
Brand new course, excellent condition this course will be private soon so play it if you can. Interesting holes wide open, reminded me of courses I played in Palm Springs. Highly recommend this course.
Tough But Fair
Lakewood National is a great value if you pay attention to the pricing options. Can be one of the higher priced course around or one of the best values. The course has multiple te options allowing one to play anywhere from 5700 yards or so to over 7000 yards.
Greens tend to be large, undulating and quick. Plenty of hazards to avoid but fairways are quite wide and accepting though not many flat lies and often the ball will run to one side or the other which demands attention to lay of the land.
Pristine Conditions
I have played this course on a fairly regular basis since it opened and it is one of the best maintained PUBLIC courses in the Sarasota-Bradenton area. The staff is cordial but professional and the clubhouse is well appointed. The development is just coming its own, and the construction of new houses and condos is in full swing. The course has wide, undulating fairways with strategically place bunkers and it is unusual to have a flat, straight putt on the large 11+ greens. Holes 10, 11 and 12 are brutal, the most difficult stretch on the course. But the changes in elevation make this one of the most fun and challenging courses in the courses area.
Great greens
Love this course and played here several times. Play could be speeded up by using better pin placements as they were located in the championship style locations.
Not Again
Played this last year brand new. Greens were hard as rock, to be expected but they were sped up to 11-12. Pins in all the most difficult spots. Groups 3-4-5 puts each hole once they got to stay on a green. Way too slow a pace. Same thing this year. Group in front had an individual tee two balls at the same time on first hole. Starter said they wouldn't say anything because they don't want to annoy anyone!! That kind of gold kept up the whole round. After four hours we were waiting to tee off on 15!! Never saw the marshall the starter promised would keep things moving. People we played with mentioned the course sets up the pins and green speed like this all the time. Not sure who they think is playing but I doubt the PGA will be stopping by.
Awesome Greens
Very generous fairways. Large, undulating greens.
This course is all about the green complexes. A very fun layout....if you play from the proper tees!
Condition of the fairways (firm, fast) and greens is excellent considering the course is only a year old.
