Great golf club. Not fair to rate the amenities yet because the clubhouses is not open yet. A must play in Sarasota.
An absolute Gen
A must play course. Wickedly fast and undulating greens that are some of the biggest you will ever see. Wonderful layout with lots of room for miscues. Nice elevation changes. Rolling fairways. I cannot recommend this course highly enough. Be prepared for a challenging day. This course will eat your lunch but you will love it. Can’t wait to play it again.
Highly Recommended - Great As Usual
Played Thursday April 12, 2018. Have played this course 7 times in the last 4 months. Great as usual with fantastic conditions and fast, smooth greens. Beautiful front nine with undulating fairways and pretty bunkers. Back nine is nice but not as picturesque, except for beautiful hole 18. Many holes are wide open off the tees and the difficulty of this course is around the very undulating and very fast greens. Give it a try, I think you will like it.
One of the nicest courses in the area
Loved the course. Lush fairways and greens. Wide friendly fairways enables aggressive or conservative approaches. Definitely plan to be back. But bring your starbucks. No coffee anywhere for morning tee times. I assume that will come. Probably the nicest course I’ve seen in the Sarasota Bradenton area.
NICEST IN THE AREA FOR THE $$$
Always excellent condition. Greens were 11 1/2 on the stimp. Slick, and undulating. A must play in the Sarasota area. Highly recommended. You'll be glad you did.
Scenic course with fun layout and excellent conditions
Played here for 3rd or 4th time in the past year. Great facility to play and practice. Conditions were excellent throughout the course from tee to green. Interesting layout that is challenging but fair. Some water in play but not unfair. I really enjoy this course each time. Got a very good price of $42 to play at 8am. I will continue to play here when in the area. Thank you.
What a golf course!
This course was in pristine condition especially the greens (rolling 12). It was a great experience from beginning to end with every facet just wonderful. The greens are probably the best Bermuda greens I've ever played on bar none. The course is fairly wide open so it's good for all handicaps and very challenging from the back tees where water comes into play on many holes. We played in 4 hours with the course packed, a resort course. What a bonus!
Fun layout
Mostly wide open with challenging greens. Great shape, better if patrons could fix ball marks. Fixed three each time. Need to get the bar finished, my finish usually demands fuel to rehash.
Lakewood National
Great course with the fastest greens I’ve played in the Sarasota/Bradenton area
Lust for Lakewood
One of the best courses in the area and they are building homes like crazy and I suspect it may go private at some point so it’s a must play in our area.
The fairways were challenging and in great condition.
The greens ran true and fast and you must know where to hit them as some have many breaks and tiers.
Overall a great course and layout. Clubhouse is “ in progress” and amenities are few until the rest is done.
Lakewood
Very special course, best shape of any local course I have seen this winter. Wide accepting fairways, large, tough greens, elevation, lots of traps. Employees were great. Gps on carts, range balls included. Will play again
Good value for what we paid overvalued at normal rate
This course's overall rating is a bit inflated. Greens were ok, fairways good. The setup 5 par three 's and r par fives makes the course play longer than the yardage, with several over 400 yard par 4's even from 6000 yards. If you can get on for a good price it is worth it. At $89 and above I prefer University Park which is usually around $69.
One Of The Best, If Not The Best, Public C,ourses You Will Ever Play
Lakewood Natl. has a well earned reputation of being one of the very best courses in the Sarasota/Bradenton area. Greens are exceptional: large, contoured, very fast, true, and with closely mown areas extending a long distance from the fringe. Layout is both interesting and challenging. Overall conditioning is well above average, on par with many private clubs. Practice area is as nice as it gets. If you had to pick one course to treat yourself to.........this is the one!
Great Layout and Condition
Played Tuesday 3-27-18. Great layout and front 9 has a lot of undulating fairways which is very unusual for this flat area of Florida. Course just looks beautiful and has lots of tees to choose from. Relatively easy off the tees and wide open, but challenging around the greens with very fast and very undulating greens.Highly recommend playing Lakewood National.
Expect fast greens and fairways
Interesting layout. Greens were lightening fast. Tough to chip and get ball close. Fairways had very little grass and rolled like normal greens. Front 9 was very fair and easy to keep ball in play, Back 9 is more difficult with lots of side hill lies. A challenge to keep the ball in play if windy.
As this course matures it will be one of my top picks. Friendly and helpful staff. There is no restaurant; only snack bar - that's why I gave it three stars for amenities.
Course and staff were fine.
Hugely disappointed by unacceptable pace of play: 5 hours after 15 holes. We left after 15.
Pro shop can monitor the location and pace of every cart yet did nothing to speed pace of play.
Pro shop stopped our cart after 15 when we tried to return on the entrance road.
Disappointing
To long
Took two hours and thirty five minutes to play 9 holes. Look liked they were trying to make money rather then offer a positive golfing experience. Did not have a cart when we arrived.
Hard to enjoy the course when all you are doing is waiting
Fun course
This is a very nice course with tough greens, firm and good speed.
The play was very slow, Marshall tried to speed things up but it took 5 hours to play!
