El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage
About
El Prado Golf Course boasts two different 18-hole courses: Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek. Early in California's statehood, stagecoaches would make the 2,700 mile trek from St. Louis to San Francisco. The property used to be a stop on this trail, which is where the Butterfield Stage Course gets its name. It's the shorter of the two courses at 6,568 yards from the back tees. The course is flatter and more forgiving than Chino Creek, but it still has a fair amount of challenges that will test your skills. The layout has generous fairways, but watch out for the strategically placed bunkers lurking along the large, gently undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. The wide open nature of the course can be forgiving but at the same time it will put your round at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

good practice any day of the week
i left my phone in the golf cart, called the next day & picked it up.
nice when the staff is friendly & has integrity!
THANK YOU EL PRADO!
You might throw up on the back 9
The course is really straight and easy. They were 30 minutes behind because they were doing a junior pga tournament. Should have asked for a refund, but we drove a hour to get there so we decided to play. It took us 3 hours to play the front 9….
The back 9 was a lot quicker since the groups were only doing the front 9, but be warned about the last few holes. They’re next to some water treatment facility or portapotty cleaning facility and you will smell all that for a few holes
New golf carts
Course was in good condition I played here years ago but the conditions were rough back then. I was surprised to see the new golf cart. The chipping and putting greens were in great condition as well as the range with its new fence. The condition itself was good, but there were still a few holes that had some minor issues. But overall, this is a great experience. Fun time will book again.
Butterfield
Good course...great greens....fairways always a bit sketchy in the summer..great value...Snack bar makes a great burger after a round
Greens are in good shape
I play here every week. I have seen the improvements on the course conditions and the new parking lot. While the greens are in good shape, It's still sparse grass on the fairways on some of the holes. They are mowing nicely around the greens.
No. 1 on Butterfield needs attention around the creek. Lastly, the cart paths holes need to be filled in. They are ruddy and not in good shape. I will play again next week as its the best bargain in town,..
Course Condition
The lay out of the course is great, but the condition needs more work, a lot of mud and very bumpy. The water lakes need a lot of work the smell from the water is bad!!!! the maintenance worker are always interrupting while us at play... We pay money to play not getting interrupted!!! Hope you take this inter consideration!!!
Took over 5 hours to finish
Pace of play was terrible bc 2 groups wanted to play together. They decided that it would be ok to play 8 players per hole for some reason. The marshal did nothing and the pace of play was slow. I will never play this course ever again! Beware, it definitely isn't worth what they charge!
Cart Died
Our cart started to die on 14 and we had to walk beside it (with club pushing the gas pedal) and help it by pushing until it completely died on 18. No one would answer the phone in the shop or bar/restaurant and when informing staff no on seemed concerned about us missing the last five holes or having to push the cart three holes. This is the second time this has happened, previously we were a foursome and used another cart to push. Just two of us this time...
Horrible course
This place either needs to be closed, remodeled, or have a major price cut for it to make sense
Overall...a good day
The fareways are drying out due to the hot weather, but overall the course was good. The pace was slow during the front 9, but was ok overall. The only real complaint is the condition of the men's restroom...they need someone to scrub those toilets and urinals...a swish and flush will not qork.
