El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage
About
El Prado Golf Course boasts two different 18-hole courses: Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek. Early in California's statehood, stagecoaches would make the 2,700 mile trek from St. Louis to San Francisco. The property used to be a stop on this trail, which is where the Butterfield Stage Course gets its name. It's the shorter of the two courses at 6,568 yards from the back tees. The course is flatter and more forgiving than Chino Creek, but it still has a fair amount of challenges that will test your skills. The layout has generous fairways, but watch out for the strategically placed bunkers lurking along the large, gently undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. The wide open nature of the course can be forgiving but at the same time it will put your round at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

Love the course but the pace sucked!
We ended up skipping 4 holes. The pace was going on 6 hours! The men's club was causing the issue. They were in no hurry. Multiple calls from our group did nothing to speed up play. We were averaging 10-15 minutes between holes on the front nine. The back exceeded 20 minutes on the later holes! This course is fun and economical. However, it needs better course management.
Prado
Affordable golf course. Decent course condition. Will play again.
El Prado
Well where do I start, I have hit several drive in the center of the fairway and you would think by looking at it that I was OB. The course is in horrible shape, the fairway grass is not grass it consists of dirt and weeds.
Ben There
Been playing El Prado for 30 years. Averaging 2x a year. (No longer live in the area, but family does) Pace of play is great, fun course layout, easy for us to get to, and greens are usually in great condition. They've upgraded the restaurant - food was really good and affordably priced. Definitely will pay again.
Had a Great Day
I played Butterfield Stage and had a really fun round. I am a walker and this is a great walking course. Greens are in excellent shape and fairways are mowed tight.
The pro shop staff is really nice and upbeat - I’ll be back!
Butterfield course El Prado
Other than the bad stench on the 14th hole from a sewage treatment plant across the street it was fine, a few bare patches on some of the greens need to be fixed, other than that a good experience
Coarse condition was poor, and the cow a sewer smell was hard to stomach.

Course under repair
The course seems to be under construction. The ride in the cart was hard since there was so much dust and debris with very few cart paths, bridges, or green grass. Greens were ok. Lots of geese, which equates to lots of dried poop. Also it is not very clearly marked. We had to ask a couple of times where to go. For the price, it's ok.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes.
Your feedback helps us do better. We are looking into this issue and hope to resolve it promptly.
Thank you for visiting El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage. We hope you'll give us another try in the future.
Very slow play I’m tournament days
Very slow play I’m tournament days. I played on a Saturday and there was a junior tournament there and the round was 6 1/2 hours. It was also 95°. Perhaps the slow play in the hot weather contributed to my caution of playing here again unless I know there is no tournament that day. The greens need to be mowed lower because even downhill chips stopped and usually instead of continuing to the hole. The course could be exquisite if some of the fairways were watered
Get what you pay for
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, putting greens are great, and are consistent to what you’ll see in the course, and every hole is unique. Unfortunately the wind was blowing some crazy stench onto the back 9, and the grass overall was in tough shape, we rented the electric push carts and would highly recommend riding on this course.
Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. We will make note and we hope to see you back at El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage!
