El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage

About
El Prado Golf Course boasts two different 18-hole courses: Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek. Early in California's statehood, stagecoaches would make the 2,700 mile trek from St. Louis to San Francisco. The property used to be a stop on this trail, which is where the Butterfield Stage Course gets its name. It's the shorter of the two courses at 6,568 yards from the back tees. The course is flatter and more forgiving than Chino Creek, but it still has a fair amount of challenges that will test your skills. The layout has generous fairways, but watch out for the strategically placed bunkers lurking along the large, gently undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. The wide open nature of the course can be forgiving but at the same time it will put your round at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

Slow slow slow.
Played with another good golfer. Followed a 5 some all day. No sense putting out 5 players to make this usually fast course ridiculously slow.

Enjoyable friendly round
Choose Butterfield GC with a good rate for a weekday round of golf with a buddy. Buddy had car problems and called to bail on me at the last minute. I became the third wheel to a couple other dudes near my tee time. Had a great enjoyable time playing with them.
Course greens were surprisingly in good shaped, on a warm day, and the ball rolled held on approached shots and rolled well on putts. Fairways can always use improvement, lots of bare patches, so don’t hesitate to improve your lie, but overall I would give fairways an average rating.
Pace of play first 9 holes was ok, had to wait for senior league to tee off and get a shot ahead, but last 9 holes had no delays or hold ups. Marshall on course to monitor and encourage groups to keep pace which is appreciated. 1 cart girl working hard and came by at least 6+ times over 18 holes so plenty of opportunities to buy a snack or drink. Another relaxing a fun round at El Prado!

Good day for golf
Enjoyed the day...cloud cover kept the heat in the high 80's, low 90's...some areas of course drying out due to the constant dryness and heat. Would like to go out earlier as daylight savings is approaching.....if no one is on tee, we should be allowed to play earlier.
Too many bugs and course is terrible. Cart paths are like off roading

Stinks
Odors from cow manure and the water reclamation plant (sewer treatment) were especially harsh on the back 9..If it wasn't one disgusting smell, it was the other. Pace of play was slow and no marshals to be found. Patches of dirt for the fairway. Friendly staff and no mask requirement is the only upside. I'll try Chino Creek next time. I was told you don't have the smells to contend with on that course.

Waiting to Tee Off
For some reason, if you have made your tee time via Golfnow, you have to wait until your tee time to tee off. This sounds reasonable, but when you are waiting around for 45 minutes and no one is teeing off and you are ready and willing to tee off, you can’t because you made your tee time via Golfnow!! Very frustrating.

SHIELD NEEDED FOR LITTLE NATS!!
QUICK ROUND, WE PLAYED 18 HOLES IN TWO HOURS AND THIRTY MINUTES. JUST NEED SHIELDS ON CARTS TO KEEP BUGS FROM GETTING INTO YOUR EYES.
Great course but no ameneties
This is a great course to play but all amenities are non existent. No water, bathrooms are dirty, no ball cleaners. There are water features which are not maintained which results in a lot of bugs while you are golfing.

6 hour round
Kevin the GM is not a very understanding or nice individual. Pace of play was terrible due to 5 minute tee times and poor marshaling being done on a Saturday. Allow golfers to only tee off once the first group has left the green of #1 guys what a concept….
