El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage

About
El Prado Golf Course boasts two different 18-hole courses: Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek. Early in California's statehood, stagecoaches would make the 2,700 mile trek from St. Louis to San Francisco. The property used to be a stop on this trail, which is where the Butterfield Stage Course gets its name. It's the shorter of the two courses at 6,568 yards from the back tees. The course is flatter and more forgiving than Chino Creek, but it still has a fair amount of challenges that will test your skills. The layout has generous fairways, but watch out for the strategically placed bunkers lurking along the large, gently undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. The wide open nature of the course can be forgiving but at the same time it will put your round at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

Never Again
Where do I start?
Very old carts - they feel as if they’re going to break down on you.
Starter is on point. Two thumbs up.
Fairways are OK.
Greens need work.
My biggest issue was all the droppings in the tee boxes. Grossed me out and I just had to take off. Paid for 18, played 9.

Freshly fertilized greens roll true with good speed. Tee boxes are good and fairways are in good shape for winter play. They were working on numerous bunkers, looks like possibly some new sand being added.

Last resort
Course is in poor shape. No direction signs. Expensive for it’s conditions.

Slow
The course is in good shape for the price but the place of play is so slow on a Monday morning can't see me playing it on a weekend . the greens are nice .

Butterfield Stage -Not Bad
Played "Butterfield Stage" course at El Prado Golf Course today. Price thru GolfNow was $38, which wasn't bad. I've played this course many times and, while the overall course conditions aren't great, I was pleased that they appeared to be making some improvements. New plantings at the driving range will eventually look good. There were a number of laborers throughout the course trimming and tending bunkers. Greens were relatively good, but fairways were somewhat spotty. Roughs were poor with a lot of mud left over from recent rains. Overall, the course is in fair shape and did enjoy the overall day. Food was excellent (grilled hot dog, fry and drink for $5.50!)

Best I could get
This was the only course I could find in the inland empire for a last minute tee time before noon. Coming from Arizona, I am used to nicer courses at this price point. Course was ok. Nothing special.
