El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage
About
El Prado Golf Course boasts two different 18-hole courses: Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek. Early in California's statehood, stagecoaches would make the 2,700 mile trek from St. Louis to San Francisco. The property used to be a stop on this trail, which is where the Butterfield Stage Course gets its name. It's the shorter of the two courses at 6,568 yards from the back tees. The course is flatter and more forgiving than Chino Creek, but it still has a fair amount of challenges that will test your skills. The layout has generous fairways, but watch out for the strategically placed bunkers lurking along the large, gently undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. The wide open nature of the course can be forgiving but at the same time it will put your round at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

Golfer Reviews
Best Value in that area
Using Golf Now has been a godsend as it allows me to discover new courses. El Prado is near the top of my lists of courses I have discovered and love. Straight forward but challenging. They keep the course in really good shape and the greens are near perfect. I do hope they one day repave some of the cart paths as they are a bit ragged but overall I enjoy playing
Good price if you don't mind condition and just want to play
The course conditions aren't exactly pristine and the Butterfield side smells because of the ponds, ducks and Chino, not their fault but it comes with the territory. The pace of play is an issue as there is a mixed blend of walkers and carts, I found myself catapillared between carts and walkers. If you're looking for a round at a decent price and don't mind course conditions too much this has value.
Greens have seen better days. Tee boxes are good. Fairways are okay.

Never Again
Where do I start?
Very old carts - they feel as if they’re going to break down on you.
Starter is on point. Two thumbs up.
Fairways are OK.
Greens need work.
My biggest issue was all the droppings in the tee boxes. Grossed me out and I just had to take off. Paid for 18, played 9.

Epb
Freshly fertilized greens roll true with good speed. Tee boxes are good and fairways are in good shape for winter play. They were working on numerous bunkers, looks like possibly some new sand being added.

Last resort
Course is in poor shape. No direction signs. Expensive for it’s conditions.

The course is in good shape for the price but the place of play is so slow on a Monday morning can't see me playing it on a weekend . the greens are nice .
Hello, Garret. Thank you for reviewing the course. We would like to apologize for the delay of play during your round with us. Please know that this is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. With an uncharacteristically full day, we work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and allow our guest the chance to complete their rounds. With that in mind, we are working to best control pace and allow everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve and use your comments as guidance in doing so. Thank you for playing El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage. We hope to see you again soon.
