El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage

About
El Prado Golf Course boasts two different 18-hole courses: Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek. Early in California's statehood, stagecoaches would make the 2,700 mile trek from St. Louis to San Francisco. The property used to be a stop on this trail, which is where the Butterfield Stage Course gets its name. It's the shorter of the two courses at 6,568 yards from the back tees. The course is flatter and more forgiving than Chino Creek, but it still has a fair amount of challenges that will test your skills. The layout has generous fairways, but watch out for the strategically placed bunkers lurking along the large, gently undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. The wide open nature of the course can be forgiving but at the same time it will put your round at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

A good value but smelly
Hole 17-18 is right next to the waste water treatment so you will be heavily distracted by the smell. However it's in pretty decent condition and usually a good value. Walking only on this course right now. Chino Creek is cart exclusive, I believe. Decent layout with some dry creeks running through fairway so not a driver every time. Usually hot and a bit windy but today was just windy which will affect shots. For first timers might be confusing as the layouts will cross roads four times.

Flies Flies Everywhere
Course has flies all over the place. Smells bad when the wind picks up.

Fairway layout
Since there is no gps provided and two golf courses intertwined together but no noticable signs, it's confusing for the first time golfer to play comfortably.

Butterfield is in fine shape and the fairways and greens lush - pace of play was very good!
Prado
Tee boxes, fairways and greens are in great shape. Understandably the bunkers aren't at this time. Love the way they set up the cups on the greens so the ball has to ho in the cup, but it's easy to remove the ball without having to touch the stick.
Playing During COVD-19 Virus Conditions
Great day for golf. Required to walk on Butterfield Stage Course after 8:00 AM. Excellent pace of play. Complied with requirement to wear a mask, etc. Enjoyed the opportunity to get on a golf course again. Great rate - $16/ person walking with a 1:30 PM tee time on GOLFNOW.
