Green River Golf Club
About
The beauty of the Santa Ana Canyons surrounds Green River Golf Club in Corona. The club originally had two 18-hole courses but they have been combined to form one massive, sprawling golf course. Although it is surrounded by hills and valleys, the course itself is mostly flat, making it a good round for high handicappers. The fairways are wide and forgiving, making it even more player friendly for beginners. There are still many challenges in store on this golf course though, including a number of river and creek crossings and strategically placed bunkers. The Santa Ana winds that sweep across the course can often make reaching the greens in regulation quite tough and the abundant trees, while providing a scenic and secluded atmosphere, also add to Green River Golf Club's difficulty.

Good even during heat wave.
The course itself was in good condition, but someone had cut the greens too short, and there has been a massive heat wave. There is a huge possibility that the greens could be lost. Overall, this course is fun, yet challenging. The cart girl is awesome and makes sure to make her rounds on the weekend. I hope that they smarten up and expand to 27 holes at least. They didn't loose all the holes in the wash out.
Course provides good value for the cost. Not crowded.
Some of the greens were a bit rough but overall the course was in good shape. I think they could improve the course dramatically by upgrading the cart paths around the greens, many are dirt or gravel. This invites the less etiquette minded to drive too close to the greens. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Good value for the money.
Ok value if you get it cheap ....
Played on a weekend and payed $37 w/ cart. Greens are burned out for the first six or seven holes. Fairways a good. Sand traps are fair. VERY WINDY for an hour or so on the front nine. LOUD trains rumble past a couple of holes.
Worst course I have ever played? No. Worth about $37 on a weekend. Wouldn't pay more because of condition ... better choices in Corona area. IF I lived closer, I might play here again ... I recommend only if you get a rate of $35 or less.
Greens need attention.
Many of the greens need attention, the fairways were kind of uneven and bare on some holes. The problem on the greens, besides being patchy, are caused by players who do not repair divots. The wind makes the course longer than it is, especially on the six holes on the Orange course.
Great course for public Golf.
The course has 5 par Fives, 3 on the front holes 17 & 18 are par 5's, good opportunities for birdies. The course has some nice elevated T boxes, always fun off those T's. It has. Some good green side bunkers, but not a lot of fairway bunkers or water hazards. Good public golf course.
Nice course in between the Santa Ana river bringing a cool breeze
Overall course was in fairly good condition. First 3 greens were a bit brown and bumpy. Other than that its pretty well maintained. For the price I paid ($27) it's worth the money and I will be back for that price.
What happen to this course
Well I haven't played this course in a long time it used to have two courses and now it's just one, It's kind of weird complaining about a course when you only paid $ 21 but it the greens were all beat up and the course in general was just sad.
Always a great value.
I've always felt green river has been a great value. It's not the most difficult course yet does have a variety of challenges. The fairways are solid, green grass, green trees and not too narrow. You have some elevation changes. My biggest complaint is the same every year. The first few greens are not well kept, some have dead grass areas. Yes, it's Aug and 90 degrees. I've played other times during the year and it's the same. I would also love to see GPS in the carts. Probably would help with pace especially for the inexperienced but then again, it'd cost more to play.
Was a little slow. But, the deal was worth it.
Greens just aerated. But, the rest of the course was nice. Some wide, forgiving fairways and lots of trees. Excellent Monday golf outing.
this course has always unprodict win
this golf course use to have two course to bad now convain in one. almost everone enjoy this golf course.
How well do you play the wind?
Considering all the construction going on around the course, the course played pretty well . There were areas on the fairways that were dry and spots on the greens that were bad, but just move your ball to a different area and you are o.k. It's the afternoon wind that comes down Santa Ana Canyon that makes this course interesting. You will get a chance to practice your downwind, upwind and crosswind shots.
We met a course Marshall named Roy. He was one of the most helpful and friendly people I have ever met on a golf course. We ran into him a number of times as he tried to get the groups ahead to "please speed up."
Note: If you make your reservations through Golfnow, be sure and print not only the reservation number, but also the page that shows the price includes a cart. I didn't print that page and they charged me an extra $5.00 for the cart.
Overall, Green River is a interesting track.
Greens need work
Nice course with ok fairways but greens are all burned out
First time experience was very good
7 am start time, out by 11am. Except for a couple of greens, the other greens were in fine condition. Had a good game for a 20 handicapper; keeping the ball in play is always helpful. I liked the setting and the complete practice areas. Living in OC the drive in was easy, and the drive home at noon, no traffic as well.
Great course to walk!
Great course to walk. Taking a cart is just a bumpy ride. The course was in fine shape and I would play it again. It gets a little windy in the afternoon but so does Kingsbarns in Scotland.
Much improved conditions
Was impressed with the condition of this course as I hadn't played it in many years and previously it was in bad shape. Access to the course needs improvement.
Fun afternoon at Green River
I booked my "Hot Deal" tee time the day before, and mentioned my plans to a friend that I knew had to work Friday afternoon. What I didn't know was that he was very familiar with Green River Golf Club. His only concern was fallen leaves on the course. I'm glad to report, the day I played the course was in fine condition. The greens were a little bumpy, but so they were at Anaheim Hills a couple days earlier.
The staff in the pro shop was friendly, and willing to send me out ahead of time, same with the starter. When I stated that I hadn't been to Green River before, the starter asked the group behind me if they would allow me to join them, and they did.
The group I joined plays together around the area a few times a month, and were very knowledgeable of the course.
I can't say that everyone playing Green River will be as lucky as I was with the grouping, but it was good enough for me to round up to 4 stars, even waiting for the group in front of us on most shots. Pace of play is as important to me as conditions so when Allen and Bob left after the 12th hole, Paymen and I had the twosome behind us join on the 13th tee. On future visits to OC, my wife will play Green River also.
Challenging course .
I would recommend to my friends it's a great and challenging course.
never going there again
This is the first time, since I have been playing golf that I have left a golf round in between. Its a super slow course with 4some all over. We waited 20+ mins every tee box. Weather was hot and the fairways are in bad shape with rough patches all over. Greens were OK though.
I don't think I am going back there again. Sorry Green River but you definitely need some river water on your fairways.
