Chateau Elan Golf Club - Chateau Course
About
Although Chateau Elan Golf Club & Resort is just 40 minutes from Atlanta, the panoramic views of the north Georgia foothills make it feel much further from the city. The club boasts two public championship courses and a nine-hole course as well as The Legends, a private golf club. In addition to the golf, Chateau Elan is also home to a full production winery. The Chateau Course is one of the public championship golf courses. The layout wanders across 170 acres, winding around a lake and two creeks. Water, not surprisingly, comes into play on more than half of the holes but there are also 87 bunkers strategically placed throughout to watch out for. There is thick Bermuda rough bordering the contoured fairways too. It is more open than the slightly more challenging Woodlands Course, the other public championship golf course.

This was the #13 green if i'm not mistaken. Can see how nice the sand bunkers were and how nice the green was. Photo submitted by bryan6804634 on 09/16/2016
Really nice course.
This course exceeded expectations. It was in fantastic condition, greens in great shape, the pace of play was fast. We might have waited on two holes during a Saturday morning. Look forward to playing again as well as checking out the other courses here.
Let me explain
The course was in very rough shape due to the large amounts of rain we received lately. I get that. Sand washed completely out of bunkers with 2 foot deep potholes, washout and mud all throughout fairways, and maintenance crew out in full force. There in lies the problem for me. I went off at 8:20 AM and had maintenance crew on eight of my 18 holes. And I wasn’t following the same guy around, that’s just how much work was going on. And if there’s this much work that needs to be done, I personally would rather you guys close the course for the day to get it right and done in a timely manner instead of being a distraction or nuisance to the customer, especially for the price it is to play here. And at the very least, give us a heads up in the pro shop. I don’t think the cart path only sign gave enough explanation as to what we were to experience this round. I love Château and will continue to give them my money. I frequent the range multiple times a week, enjoy the multiple putting greens and practice facility, love the Woodlands and the par three course. Looking forward to another chance to experience the château course in all of its glory..
An very underrated course --- Reality is it's beautiful and challenging!
I played the Woodlands course. It's absolutely beautiful! The overall conditions are very good except 1 or 2 tee boxes need some improvements. Like other GA courses in the area, the undulating greens are soft and smooth but a little too slow. I am not sure why they don't make the beautiful greens faster to increase the level of fun and challenges. Given the softness of the greens, it's easy to make a big ball mark, players should fix their ball marks. The course also gives a preview of the beautiful big houses surrounding the course. A recommendation for playing the GA (or mountainous) courses is to have a range finder with the slope feature; otherwise, you will struggle with estimating the approach shot distances---ask me how I know about this.
Unpleasant treatment?!
We were group of 4 players plus my girlfriend was with us from out of town visiting, so we needed an extra 3rd golf cart! I was very unhappy of their $35 additional charge for the extra golf cart?? Most golf courses don’t charge.. This unusual & unexpected outrageous charge shows how greedy & unwelcoming we were treated.
Green speed too slow & didn't mention the green airorated. Practice ranger balls not allowed for the players. Only one rest thru 18 holes, no water stand, and no trash can. Electric cart stock on the fairways then allowed reverse only several times.
Pricey
Played the Château course twice on Father’s Day weekend. Found it to be a bit pricey based on the condition of the greens. They were still recovering from aeration and sanding a few weeks earlier. Pace was a bit slow but not terrible. Good food and drinks at Sarazan’s.
Struggling with drought conditions
Completely understand we are in some drought conditions but some areas were so heat stressed they might not recover. Clearly not doing enough watering for the weather. Greens were aerated within the last 2 weeks and are still borderline unplayable in my opinion. 2-3” hops were not uncommon. Seems they weren’t sanded enough after punching as there are lots of unfilled holes. I’m confident conditions will improve with better weather so my review only reflects my experience the week of June 20th 2022.
Great Fun
This course is in great condition with the recent heat wave hitting the area. Course is challenging from the tee shot selection and you can just pull out your driver all day long. They did have the drink cart and that was wonderful. They also had water coolers which is a great addition!
The only problem was we had a group of 5 playing together in front of us and they never let the two of. Is pass. I think they may have been member but letting 5 off the start for a morning tee time is crazy. No Marshall ever came to the course and we waited on every hole.
Unprofessional
I played the course on June 4 and everything was great. I come back on June 10 with 3 guests and the greens were punched. We should have been informed of this as the greens were unplayable.
