Chateau Elan Golf Club - Chateau Course
About
Although Chateau Elan Golf Club & Resort is just 40 minutes from Atlanta, the panoramic views of the north Georgia foothills make it feel much further from the city. The club boasts two public championship courses and a nine-hole course as well as The Legends, a private golf club. In addition to the golf, Chateau Elan is also home to a full production winery. The Chateau Course is one of the public championship golf courses. The layout wanders across 170 acres, winding around a lake and two creeks. Water, not surprisingly, comes into play on more than half of the holes but there are also 87 bunkers strategically placed throughout to watch out for. There is thick Bermuda rough bordering the contoured fairways too. It is more open than the slightly more challenging Woodlands Course, the other public championship golf course.

This was the #13 green if i'm not mistaken. Can see how nice the sand bunkers were and how nice the green was. Photo submitted by bryan6804634 on 09/16/2016
worth the trip
played at 6:45am and played in less than 2.5 hours.
great value for the time will definately play here again
Green is very good
Very good this golf course
Fairways and greens.
We can do playing early
Morning around 6:25 start
That is good for summer season.
Miss those bent grass greens
While a lot of courses have gone to Bermuda The Chateau has stayed the course with Bent Grass and it's worth the drive. Tired of those slow greens, give Chateau Élan a try.
Know your clubs.
This is the second time I've played this course and I like it more and more every time. Nice challenge, uses almost every club in my bag. Lots of distance variations and great shape of the course.
A beautiful course
The Chateau Course is always fun to play and is beautiful. Only let down yesterday is that several tee boxes are closed to allow grass to regrow. Other than that - a great day! Greens were a little slow but not unusual for this time of year.
Course is in great shape
Enjoyed the course. Haven't played here in a while but it was well worth it.
Great Track Except for hole #17
Overall good track. A couple of the Par 3 tees were closed as they were repairing them.
The best features of the course are the greens as they roll very well.
Hole # 17 is a very weird hole, not sure if the architect ran out of space.
Hole 18 is a beaut.
Great course
Enjoyed playing this course. It was challenging but not too challenging. It was in great condition. Only disappointing thing was a couple of the tee boxes were closed for repair which made the holes too short.
Great Day.
An excellent experience at an awesome price for such a nice course. Played with my son and his father-in-law who is from FL. Played the Chateau course on a beautiful Sunday morning. Very nice views of awesome homes along the course. Course in great shape, not overly difficult, pretty wide open and playable for average golfers such as our team. Would most definitely return when the opportunity presents itself.
Tee grounds bare!
Greens in good shape. A little shaggy but rolled true. Fairways starting to green up nicely. But... Tee grounds were unacceptable! Many of them are muddy sand with no grass at all. Pace of play was nice for a Monday for the first six holes but then slowed to a wait of a couple of minutes per shot. I am glad I booked on a hot deal for $36. Also need to pack a lunch. I forgot that there is no break between sides and no option for a quick hotdog. Beer cart girl had some crackers and candy bars. I would recommend this course but only at discount price.
i expected better
i've played Chateau Elan several times ranging from discounted $35 to $65. its a great layout with challenges at nearly every hole. There are lots of creeks and bends that make you make lots of different club choices. That being said, i like the course.
My issue is them charging same regular price when greens are all covered with sand from the recent aeration in which they don't tell you about when you call or book online. That was a problem for me having brought a friend out to play this great course for the first time. we were both very disappointed. on top of that, just about all of the tee boxes were dirt and crab grass. it was just terrible. The tee boxes were in just horrible shape, dirt, crab grass and uneven. I'm not sure what's going on at Chateau Elan but i expected more, even if the greens were being aerated there is no excuse for us to tee off of dirt with this caliber of course. i'm not going to bash them but i was embarrassed that i'd brought someone who had never seen the place and heard all these good things. just very disappointed.
Nice layout
A Sunny 70* degree day on March 2nd just added to the pleasure of playing a round on the Chateau course. The greens had just been punched and top dressed so putting was challenging but aside from that conditions were OK.
Good Shape for Winter Conditions
Greens were sanded a few days ago, but we were aware of this when we booked. Tee boxes and fairways still dormant but otherwise OK for winter conditions. Staff always friendly and very attentive. Got reduced rate because of sanded greens, so the value was good. Teed off early morning and was finished in 3.5 hours. Course was getting crowded as we were leaving.
Good value using Golfnow.
I always enjoy playing Chateau Elan but this time the course was not in the same great shape that I am used to. The fairways and traps were in good shape for winter play. Several tee boxes had virtually no grass on them. Come on guys, rye is cheap! The greens also had some kind of weed growing on them. They rolled true but looked splotchy. The clubhouse and cart guys were friendly, polite and accommodating. The cart girl was hot and nice too. Overall I thought it was a good value for $39 on Golfnow.
Do not attempt if you are handicapped unless you get a flag.
With a verified disability you can go anywhere, except within 5 yards of the green, even on par 3's.
I love this course.
In the summer it is in excellent shape. I played in winter conditions which are never pristine.
nice place
Course is in great shape for winter! Greens are great and course layout is very playable. I am handicap of a 6 and really enjoyed the course. Will be playing again.
Longest round of my life!
We had a frost delay that was handled so poorly by the course that we spent 5 1/2 hours on the course. they threw some of us out on # 10 to start, with no regard to the tee times later. When we made the turn to start our back nine on #1 there were four groups waiting. Luckily the fivesome that was in front of us stopped for lunch at the turn. This was the longest, slowest, least enjoyable round of golf I have ever played. The long waits made each shot feel like the first of the day. I don't know if I will ever go back.
Not what I expected
Let me start by saying that this is not a bad course at all. It's a good course layout in pretty good condition. But the reason I only gave it 3 stars was the price you have to pay. I expected a much much nicer course for what is charged. I know it's getting later in the season but when you pay a premium you expect pristine conditions. There are several courses around the Atlanta area that are in better condition for much less. Some greens were a little spotty but still rolled relatively well. Fairways were good for the most part. Bunkers were a little unkept although not bad. All in all the course is good, just not as good as price says it is. I would have been upset if I had payed anywhere close to full price. I would rate it as about a $35 course.
Course great, but....
Was 4:30 when we finished and we couldn't grab a beer after the round as the clubhouse was closed????? Thought that was strange, but the course was in great condition and greens were rolling great.
