Chateau Elan Golf Club - Woodlands Course
About
Chateau Elan boasts three public courses, two championship courses and a nine-hole course, as well as a private golf club, The Legends. The Woodlands Course is one of the public courses. It is considered the most scenic of the three championship layouts with stunning views of the north Georgia foothills and a landscape of sparkling lakes and towering trees. Of the two public championship golf courses, the Woodlands is considered to be slightly more challenging thanks to several tree-lined holes that require a fair amount of accuracy. The rolling terrain provides plenty of elevation changes, so be prepared for some tricky blind shots. The lakes and ponds dotting the course come into play on several holes as well. Although it enjoys a beautiful mountain setting, Chateau Elan is conveniently only 40 minutes from Atlanta.

One of my favorites!!!
Second time playing this course...fun and challenging. Despite the heat and high humidity, the bentgrass greens are in great shape. Unfortunately there are those that disrespect others and the course by not repairing their ball marks on the greens, certainly not the fault of Chateau Elan. Greens are true and fast. Fairways were shaggy, but to be expected with the daily rain...plenty of mowing going on during play. Staff is always friendly! I look forward to next play here.
Hi "Michael9852815" Thank you for the awesome review. We are so glad you enjoyed your round with us. Don't forget to follow us on Facebook for some great local deals!
Course was in great shape greens were a little slower than previous rounds I've played there.
Hi "camaro2011" Thank you for the review. We appreciate your review and your patience as we are looking to speed up the greens after the hot summer months. Thanks and we hope to see you again !
Best course of the 2
The Woodland course is my favorite out of the 2 public courses. Greens and tee boxes were in great shape. Fairways needed mowing. Wil be back ASAP.
Hi "Emcdew" Thank you for the great review. We are honored to be in your top 2 public courses! We appreciate the review and can't wait to have you back. Thanks MGT
Chateau Elan Woodlands
Played on a Friday at 11am so the course was wide open.
Course was in Excellent shape but was somewhat challenging.
Overall, I was quite pleased with the round and highly recommend it.
The only thing I found odd was you have to pay for yardage cards.
Hi "u607533163" Thank you for the excellent review. We hope you enjoyed your fun but challenging round with us today. Thanks for coming out and we hope to see you again in the near future.
Enjoyed course very much and would definitely go back. Staff was super nice.
Hi "u922067291" Thanks for the review. We appreciate the kind words regarding the course and our excellent staff. Hope to see you again in the near future.
Golf
Very nice course but fairways are in bad shape. Grass spotty. Played this course many time before and this is the worst shape I have seen it in. Greens are GREAT.
Hi "atkinsm1" We appreciate your honest review. The woodlands course is still recovering from last year's drought. The tee boxes and fairways are still trying to transition after the lack of rain we received. We appreciate your patience and hope to see you again in the near future.
Hi "jczarchitect" Thanks for the 4 star review! We really appreciate the feedback.
Great Course and challenging layout
I was very surprised by the amount of up and down hills there were on the course. I did not expect to have so may up-hill holes as well as down-hill holes. I really liked the course. The weather was awesome and I it was an excellent value especially since I got a GolfNow Hotdeal for my tee time.
I will definitely be back to the course to play time and time again.
Hi "RettJ " Thanks for the excellent review. We are so glad you enjoyed the layout of the course. We can't wait to have you back with us!
Third time playing this course. Enjoyed all three.
Value for the money response is based on paying at reduced rate. Had I paid full fare I would have been disappointed. The fairways and tee boxes could use some attention but were very playable. The layout is a good mix of target golf and let it fly golf. The greens are in very good shape challenging and fair. Reading greens is not my strong suit but I was quite pleased with my reads. Not sure if that's because they were straightforward or I was just "on" today.
Hi "danoshea7599" Thanks for the honest review. We appreciate you coming out and giving us a try today, and hope that your experience was an excellent one. Please come back and see us again soon.
Poor Operation - Almost 1 Star - Not Recommended
There is clearly something wrong with the operations at Chateau Elan. We had no problem checking in or warming up, but we arrived at the first tee to find a 6-some in front of us. The 6-some was following a single. The group behind us called the Golf Shop to complain and someone came out and broke the group into 2 and 4. This foursome required nearly 5-hours to play the round on an essentially open course with no offer to let us play through. No starters or marshals at all. The course conditioning is fair at best. Only the tee boxes rate as average condition. All else is below average. I can name at least two local municipal courses in far better condition. With the correct maintenance, the Woodlands course should be in great condition considering the mild winter and nearly ideal spring.
The reply comments from the Chateau Elan Management seem disingenuous. The poor course conditions and pace of pace of play management issues have persisted over several years. There is no reason for an individual player to expect that their experience will be better than my experiences.
Hi "DG1" We're very sorry to hear of your poor experience on the Woodlands Course. We asked the group of 6 to break up as soon as we were informed of the situation and apologize for that group starting your round in a negative way. We try to do our best to control pace and can help to find a more open time for you to play should you choose to return since that is clearly very important to you. Thank you again for playing with us and we hope you will give us another opportunity in the future.
Thanks,
Chateau Management
Perfect round
Course was in great condition after a lot of rain the prior couple of days. Greens were great. Lots of scorable par 4's. Great track.....will be back. Definitely recommend over chateau course.
Hi "Splashrace" Thanks for the great review! We will definitely pass along the great compliments regarding the course conditions. We appreciate you coming out, please come back and see us again soon.
One of the better tests of golf in the region
It's a very good layout. The condition this year is poor. At 1 pm on a weekday no personal working on course.
another swing and a miss with information available at time of booking
Played many times. We've always liked the layout. Course was as good as could be expected given the conditions.
People who work the course are always courteous and helpful.
Sand was in really good shape, and frankly aimed for it on most holes as it was the best surface on the course.
The problem is that there is no mention on GolfNow as to the state of the course.
The bridge to get to the course was out. No signs, until you turned around to leave, then there were signs to an alternative entrance. An easy to post course condition, but no mention.
Recently aerated greens... and fairways... and rough. Not micro punches, the ball nearly fit in the punches off the green. Frequently joked that even the cart path looked aerated. An easy to post course condition, but no mention.
in preparing for the spring/summer, many of the fairways were nearly grass free, looking scraped. An easy to post course condition, but no mention.
GolfNow is very convenient. guess that's all that can be said.
In another area of the review process GolfNow asks one to rate the site, and that it won't be published as part of the review. I feel it is important enough that i have copied my response to that question here.
do the work, call the course, ask questions about the playing conditions. Certainly more effort, but it is simply too disappointing to have your weekly round frequently ruined by lack of information.
This is coming from someone who has booked multiple hundreds of rounds through this site and its predecessors.
Nice course!
Great layout , challenging holes. My only complaint is greens aren't always the best but keep in mind this is not the nicest course at chateau the one for members only is obviously nicer but still this is a great course in good shape.
Nice course
Definitely a must play in the area, keep the ball in play. The scenery is very nice and so are the houses. Played in tournament so the cost may not reflect what you might pay. There are a lot of blind tee shots so be careful. The greens are large and receptive to well played shots and the greens roll well although there were a few greens with some issues. My usual struggles are with par 4's but not on this course, they played well for me although some were long from the back tees. Play it if you get a chance.
Solid third option at the resort
The woodlands course at Chaeau Elan is a good track but not the best at Chateau Elan. The day I played it rained about an inch and the back nine was so saturated, it was almost unplayable. I didn't give the course three stars because of the weather but I have heard that the course is definitely better in the sun. The greens remained about an eight on the stimp meter and the fairways were not that bad. The bunkers were the only issue, but I never got it one so it didn't matter. The resort and clubhouse are both very nice after the recent renovations. The resort is very sporty and is much of the best resorts in the state. The solid array of three courses and a par three course is a nice touch. I think the whole resort is very nice and define try recommend the Cheatue course, and the legends course.
Super Deal
My friend Tony called me yesterday morning wanting to play golf. I wasn't to keen on playing since it had been early November since I had hit a ball. But, with a little encouragement I went ahead and booked us with Chateau and even the course and weather were excellent. Chateau Chateau Course is in excellent shape. The greens were true and rolled smooth. The weather was awesome for January and ended in short sleeves. We played with a ex-mini-tour member (Michael) and he was absolutely the nicest person to have played with. He offered some tips which I felt privileged to have gotten and helped with my ball striking. If you haven't played this course this winter you owe it to yourself to play it.
Hi 'u368662948" Thank you for the 5 star review, we really appreciate it!
