Chateau Elan Golf Club - Woodlands Course
About
Chateau Elan boasts three public courses, two championship courses and a nine-hole course, as well as a private golf club, The Legends. The Woodlands Course is one of the public courses. It is considered the most scenic of the three championship layouts with stunning views of the north Georgia foothills and a landscape of sparkling lakes and towering trees. Of the two public championship golf courses, the Woodlands is considered to be slightly more challenging thanks to several tree-lined holes that require a fair amount of accuracy. The rolling terrain provides plenty of elevation changes, so be prepared for some tricky blind shots. The lakes and ponds dotting the course come into play on several holes as well. Although it enjoys a beautiful mountain setting, Chateau Elan is conveniently only 40 minutes from Atlanta.

Great value
1. Great conditions for the time of the year
2. Played through a 4-some, 3-some, 2-some and we finished in about 3 hours
3. Greens were in great shape except for #17 but they had common sense to place the pin at a good area
Course was fun to play and was in great condition. Would love to go back and play anytime.
Challenging but fair
Been several years since last played the Woodlands. Found a decent deal on GolfNow and had a very good winter round on a January weekend. Overall the course was in good shape with a few bad places on a few greens but nothing to be upset with. Greens rolled well and the undulation and size made three putts a possibility if you were not below the hole. Wish the course would offer more deals during the year.
Nice resort course
I was staying at the resort for the weekend so decided to go at and play the woodlands course. The clubhouse was very nice and spacious. The plants around the clubhouse was very nice and the staff was very nice. I found the driving range different because there was a creek to the right of the range gobbling up some balls. The putting area was a little small but got the job done. The toughest challenge was finding your ball in the middle of the fairways with the extreme amount of leaves. The first hole is very short and downhill. 2 is a cool hole you can layup short of the creek or drive over which is about 270 over the creek. Water is to the right of the green. 4 was a cool hole and I liked the par 3 6th. 9 was cool as well. Ten was a tough start on the back nine. 12 is a tough par 3 and 13 is just strange with the water and rough. 16 was a great par 3 being able to see the road and housing development. 18 was a LONG par 5 and was a tough elevated green. The food in the clubhouse is second to none. I recommend staying at the inn and taking a wine tour on your weekend here.
Fabulous
Awesome course and good flow. Maintainance was great!
A Fun Day
I was a little surprised that the corse was not in better condition for a Chateau Elan course. The fairways need watering and the greens although quite nice have many ball marks. The course is designed well and it was lots of fun to play. The staff were very courteous and friendly!! Please ask members and players to repair their ball marks.
All good
The course is in nice shape now. Only a couple spots on 2-3 greens that need a bit of time to grow back since they aerated after Labor Day. Enjoy!
Beautiful course
Very challenge and beautiful course.
I really enjoyed play and much fun!
Seems easy but very tricky
I like to play more often.
1948Kang - Thank you very much for the 5 star rating! We are thrilled to hear that you will be playing more often!
Great bunkers.
Course layout is great. Love playing Woodlands. Wish the gre no were in better shape. Heat and fungus has stressed the greens.
Russcole99 - We are thrilled to hear that you love playing the Woodlands course! Come back and see us again soon!
Great layout but Greens need at least 3 weeks
This is a great layout, very interesting to play. Lots of elevation, great service however the greens are average at best, they need at least 3 weeks of good weather. Not worth the current asking price until the greens improve. A stop at the winery is a must.
u00000606318 - Thank you so much for the 4 star rating! We look forward to seeing you again!
Extremely poor green conditions
Throughout the game, I got complaints from the players just because I chose the course. If you want to have good golf day with friends, I recommend you to choose the other courses.
donkim2526 - We are sorry to hear this. We hope you will come back and see how beautiful our course is!
poor greens
It had been a while since we last played here. It has gone down hill badly. The greens had been punched and they needed much more help than that, numerous bare spots and it looked like fungal growth as well. The sand in the traps was very fine and soft . too fine and much too soft. Don't know where they are spending their money at the "fine resort"?
jejean - We are sorry to hear that we did not exceed your expectations this time. We hope you will come back and see us again.
I like
I have played here a dozen times or more over the years. I enjoy Woodlands much more than the Chateau course. It is not overly challenging but the collection of holes offers a good variety meaning, no two holes are the same.
The worst part is that the finish is quite lack luster. You have a super short par 4, a silly downhill par 3 with OB left (if you hook the ball just role past this hole) then another super shot par 4 with OB left and woods right. Just hit iron off the tee short of the bunker on the right and concede a 9-iron into the green.
Overall for the hot deal rate, this course is a good value.
Tom1475160 - Thank you very much for the 4 star rating! We hope to see you back on the course again soon!
Woodlands is a tough test of golf! The name says it all!
Don't let the scorecard length fool you, this course is tough no matter what tees you chose. We played the tips, but at 6700 yards, we felt like we played a course over 7000 yards. The key to the Woodlands course is you must drive the ball well off the tee. The one factor that really separates the Woodlands course from its sister course, Chateau, is, as the name implies, the woods. There is trouble off most tees both left and right and being able to work the ball both ways is key to having a low score here.

Nice course
This is a nice course with great amenities . Greens are nice and soft and hold the ball. Just wish more people would fix there ball marks. Green have spots from to many balls. If you can get a deal during the hot part of the day you should give it a go.
Prpich - Thank you very much for the 5 star review! We appreciate you taking the time to write a review and hope to see you back soon!
Long challenging course
I played this course a couple of years ago and did not think it was maintained per reputation. The bunkers had river sand and rocks in them. However, now they have added more strategically placed bunkers and with white fluffy sand and no rocks. The fairways are lush and green even with the drought we are having. A very challenging course and yet fun to play. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Woodlands lives up to the reputation of Chateau Elan!

Woodland course
Did a 9 hole round on a Saturday morning. Course was well maintained. Nice rolling hills, well designed. Had a great time, will be back!
Thanks for the review! We are looking forward to having you back on the course again for another round!
Nice Course - Poor Golf Club
I have played Chateau Elan a few times with multi-year gaps between some rounds. I like the Woodlands course, but the most of my experiences have been poor. The issues that have tainted most of my visits were the same for this visit. This has been consistent for 10 years and includes:
1) Very slow play (a 5+ hour round seems to be the norm) (The front nine time was 2 hours and 45 minutes for this round)
2) Slow check-in (allow 20 minutes)
3) Poorly orchestrated starting (getting people in carts, to the practice facilities, and to the first tee)
4) Practice facility condition and/or availability (the practice putting green was closed on this day. We used the chipping green that was not representative of the course greens.)
Thank you for your review and feedback. We would like to discuss your situation a little bit further with you in hopes of making it right with you. Please send us an email at chateauelangolf@outlook.com. Thank you.
The Woodlands - Aptly named
We played on a day when 2 rounds of thunderstorms came through, so playing conditions were varied throughout the round. The tee boxes are average, the greens are decent, but very pock marked with unfixed ball marks, so at times putting is affected. The fairways are excellent, probably the best I've seen on a public course, very well trimmed and very nice to play the ball "down" on most shots. We played white tees, to more enjoy the approach shots and the putting, vs trying to keep it on the narrow fairways. It is worth the price, but could use more greens work.
Thank you for your review and feedback. We are happy to have you playing on our course and hope you come back for another round soon!
WOODLANDS
FOUND THE COURSE TO BE IN GREAT SHAPE AND THE STAFF FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL. WILL DEFINITELY PLAY HERE AGAIN
Thanks for the 5 Star review! We are glad to hear it. Looking forward to next round with you!
They need a Ranger on the course.
The Woodlands is a wonderful challenge from the tips. The course was in great shape for the most part. There were two things that disappointed me during my round however. The fist being that the greens seem to roll inconsistently. Some green were very quick while others were like putting on shag carpet. The biggest disappointment was the pace of play. I was a single and tend to play very quickly. I played 12 holes in and hour and five minutes. It was on 13 that I became stuck behind a fivesome! They never let me play through in which my playing became sporadic and my patience became non-existent. They need a ranger to drive around and speed groups up or tell them the etiquette of the game! Looking past that I was satisfied with the overall experience and course maintenance. I booked a Hot Deal and with my discount the round was next to nothing. I recommend playing from the tips if you have the distance!
Thanks for the feedback. We will take this into consideration as we are constantly working on better satisfying our golfers. Otherwise, we are glad that you were happy with your overall experience on our course. Thanks, Spencer!
