Chateau Elan Golf Club - Woodlands Course
About
Chateau Elan boasts three public courses, two championship courses and a nine-hole course, as well as a private golf club, The Legends. The Woodlands Course is one of the public courses. It is considered the most scenic of the three championship layouts with stunning views of the north Georgia foothills and a landscape of sparkling lakes and towering trees. Of the two public championship golf courses, the Woodlands is considered to be slightly more challenging thanks to several tree-lined holes that require a fair amount of accuracy. The rolling terrain provides plenty of elevation changes, so be prepared for some tricky blind shots. The lakes and ponds dotting the course come into play on several holes as well. Although it enjoys a beautiful mountain setting, Chateau Elan is conveniently only 40 minutes from Atlanta.

This course has several risk/reward holes that can yield birdies but accuracy of the tee is required.
The layout of this track fits my shot shapes so it's always fun when I play Woodlands.
great pace & a good challenge
No waiting, beautiful greens, a challenging course
Has challenging holes
This course is very nice with some challenging holes. The sand bunkers were not in the best shape but that is due to all the rain. The greens held very well and if I was to be picky, I would say they could role a little faster. I'm not saying they are slow. I enjoyed playing the woodlands and I'll prob try the other course next..
No Bunker work
Course was great condition except for bunkers were not being keep up intentionally. I would not pay more than $35 bucks. (what we paid) They told us they have no intention of working on bunkers this year. They didn't even rake the ones with sand. Greens were very soft. Had the bunkers been good, i would rate it as 4 star.
Beautiful and Challenging Course!
This course is in great shape! What was amazing is the lack of wet spots and mud due to all the rain. Which means this course was setup to drain properly. Staff was friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back to play again!
No starter, No marshal, Crowded
I'll give it this, the course was in pretty good shape considering 2 weeks of nothing but rain prior to our round. But that's about all I'll give it. 3 foursomes, not including us, waiting on the first tee, no starter. Waiting at every hole, no marshal. I even got hit by one player's tee shot in the group behind us...in the foot luckily. We were just a twosome and we had to ask around for another twosome to play with just to keep the pace up...isn't that the starter's job??? The price wasn't bad (we got the early bird special) but apparently everyone else in the metro area did too. If you've got 6+ hours to kill on golf...well, waiting to golf, this is your place.
Chateau Elan Woodlands Review
Booked this round on Golfnow because it was a great deal. This was the second time playing Woodlands which I loved. The course was in great shape with exception of the sand traps. The traps were like most in Atlanta they were somewhat washed out due to the constant rain this summer. The fariways, cartpaths and greens were in great shape. This is a Denis Griffiths design, which I try to play all his designs, and had all the usual Griffiths challenges. There are lots of elevation changes, a good mix of long and short holes, undulating greens, lakes, creeks, and mounding in fairways. Hope to play the other courses there soon.
Great layout, and excellent course conditions. A must play!
It's been a while since I last played the Woodlands, and I can tell you it's in the best shape I can remember even though it has always been well maintained.
Very challenging with lots of elevation changes.
The course managed to survive all the rains and played very well. The greens were soft but rolled well. The staff was friendly and got us on the course fast and pace was good for a Saturday.
Wonderful round of golf!!!
Myself and three of my friends had a great day playing a great course. I look forward to playing again.7
great course to play
course was great greens rolled true fairways well maintained the bunkers were washed out by bad storms but everything else was great
Greens were great!
Despite the 4-6 inches of rain we have received in the past week, the course only had a few wet spots. Everythign was lush and green, rough was deep and challenged you to hit good shots. Greens were perfect and the overall day was excellent.
Solitude During the Week
Two of us played both the Chateau and Woodlands courses on Tuesday, July 2. Both great Dennis Griffiths designs with his signature bunkering, use of water and contoured/shaped fairways. Chateau is a more forgiving course to the "less than straight" hitter; Woodlands requires better strategic shot making decisions. The fairways and greens on both courses are in terrific shape - my guess is as much due to favorable weather than anything. Off fairway is more inconsistent, although better on Chateau than Woodlands. Bunkers on Chateau are average to slightly better; bunkers on Woodlands need attention - sand is inconsistent to nonexistent, many dont drain well and most (on both courses) had not been manicured in the morning. Course was very quiet - saw a handful of golfers during our morning round on Chateau; only one other pair in the afternoon on Woodlands. Also, no beverage service on the course - not a big deal for us but might be for some. Both courses are true "out: and in" 18s which makes for a relatively uninterrupted roud, regardless of how busy the course is. At $49 for initial round and $25 replay (including cart), this is one of the best "high end" golf deals in metro Atlanta, albeit 40 miles from the city.
No starter on first hole, we got to the 1st tee box, there was a big group of people that had 4 - groups of 4. They were told to head to the tee early
No starter on first hole, we got to the 1st tee box, there was a big group of people that had 4 - groups of 4. They were told to head to the tee early so where other golfers on the practice green. This put around 20 people on the first tee at once with no one sure who was to go. We all got together and figured it out but it was confusing.
If you have not played any of the Chateau Elan Golf Clubs, then you are missing out.
The Chateau Elan Golf Clubs are exceptional and create a wonderful memory.
nice course with great layout
No one was there on a Monday, course was in very good conditions, tee, fairways and greens. On course drink service was helpful.
Good fun course. Play time is usually good.
The course is in good shape and medium challenging. The greens are in great shape. I would recommend the course to friends. It's a little pricey, so we play of off time rates.
BEAUTIFUL AND CHALLENGING COURSE
This is a great course. Everything is very well kept from top to bottom. This course is a lot more narrow than the original course which makes it a little more difficult to stay in the fairways but it's a lot of fun to play.
Less than you would expect from Chateau
This is not your Dad's Chateau. It's worth about $20 less than they are charging. Surrounding foliage is creeping in on the layout making this course tighter by the month. Tees are OK, Greens are OK, but really slow, Fairways are OK. Everything is just OK except for the price. Course needs attention to put it back up to Chateau Standards. The entire staff consisted of 1 pro shop guy, 1 bar person, 1 cart girl, 2 bag boys, no starter, or ranger. This is for 2 courses. I'm glad we booked one of the first tee times.
Nice for a Change
If you are looking for a nice course to break up your usual golfing "holes" then check out Chateau Elon. The Woodlands course was in good shape and the staff was very friendly. Look for specials, as the standard $85 is a little high. We found $59 discounted rates. The course plays long at times, but is very fair and the tees are placed to accommodate various levels of skill. I will venture back out to Chateau Elon in the fall and hope others give this resort a try...
