Chateau Elan Golf Club - Woodlands Course
About
Chateau Elan boasts three public courses, two championship courses and a nine-hole course, as well as a private golf club, The Legends. The Woodlands Course is one of the public courses. It is considered the most scenic of the three championship layouts with stunning views of the north Georgia foothills and a landscape of sparkling lakes and towering trees. Of the two public championship golf courses, the Woodlands is considered to be slightly more challenging thanks to several tree-lined holes that require a fair amount of accuracy. The rolling terrain provides plenty of elevation changes, so be prepared for some tricky blind shots. The lakes and ponds dotting the course come into play on several holes as well. Although it enjoys a beautiful mountain setting, Chateau Elan is conveniently only 40 minutes from Atlanta.

Great condition for course in the fall !
Staff was extremely friendly and the course was in very good shape and the staff was very friendly! Great value!
Great value for the scenery and course difficulty
Played on a late Friday a.m.. As a visitor from IN., I played by myself thru the first 12 holes without seeing anyone??? It was a top notch golf course with many interesting and scenic holes. I was able to use all of the clubs in my bag. The greens were soft and held every shot. The fairways were fair, but usually sand traps or water were in play. There were a lot of elevation changes, and uphill and downhill lies. I am an eight handicapper and thoroughly enjoyed the round. I would not recommend this course to a high handicapper....they do call it the Woodlands for a reason.
Not up to par
Greens are rough, they've had a lot of traffic, plugged and sanded a while ago but haven't come back. Fairways ok, tee boxes need some attention. Not worth the money, better courses available for less.
bunkers are horrible
Course was in excellent shape except for the bunkers. Went off as a single and caught up with another one who happened to.be a member. When i hit into a Bunker he told me local rule was to ttake a free drop. I soon saw why there is little sand in them and they are filled with rocks and gravel. Too bad i love the woodland course
No alert that greens were aerated.
Other than the greens being aerated, the course was in good condition and is a nice layout. If I had been notified the greens were aerated, I wouldn't have played the course. The greens were extremely bumpy.
Greens are a little Rough, but good overall course shape
Although the greens have recently been aerated, and are a little bouncy, the course is in good condition, having dried out much from the previous rainy months. Fairways are excellent, a little challenging, as always, but the atmosphere and natural surrondings are beautiful. The cart staff was a little stiff, not too friendly and my guest from the Netherlands commented on their lack of humor. The Pro Shop is welcoming and efficient, getting us in and out quickly and kindly. Pin placements are nicely chosen. We'll come back again and look forward to Fall there.
it's ok
I know the greens were just aerified so thats not my complaint. The course is a nice one to play. It has some challenging holes. Don't think I would pay the full price they usually ask though. Needs some work done especially to the bunkers. Not one bit of sand in them and they have drainage pipes exposed in most of the bunkers. We ended up playing them as ground under. One reason was because of the sand and also with the fear of marring a club with all the rocks in them. The fairways were pretty long for a fairway and the rough, well it was rough. Probably 4+ inches thick and a bear to hit out of.
fun layout,friendly staff
fun course to play, very slow because of a few captains choice groups in front of us,greens were extremely soft even after several days of no rain,do not hit into the bunkers, will play again
Great Course and Great Layout
This course is one of my favorite layouts in the ATL area. Very scenic and challenging. The course was in great condition in spite of all the rain that we have had recently. My only problem with the course is the bunkers. Even in great weather conditions the bunkers are terrible. They do not meet the standards compaired to the rest of the course. It is not sand....it's almost like a gravel. All kinds of small stones everywhere in the bunkers. And with all the rain it is very noticeable. I actually damaged a new wedge hitting from a bunker there a few years back. Come on CE....update the bunkers with some real sand. Other than that, I would tell you to play this course when you can. Especially if you can catch a good deal on Golfnow! Just stay out of the many bunkers!
Nice fast greens And great condition
I enjoyed the layout. Aged a lot against my draw, which is great and makes me mAke different shots. Used most of my bag even my 1 iron. Yeah I said 1 iron
One of the Better Places to Play Golf In the Atlanta Area
I usually try to get a GolfNow tee time to play at either one of the gorgeous Chateau Elan courses, which definitely makes this a greal deal for the money. The Woodlands course was in terrific shape, as usual, with the rough running a bit higher than normal due to all of the rain we've been getting this summer. Many times you had to practically step on your ball to find it, but if you can hit the fairways consistently enough, you can put up a decent score here. The Bent Grass greens were speedy, and a few, pehaps showing a little stress from all of the rain, but not in a way to affect your play. It is challenging in certain spots, but overall a very fair track to play on. The best thing that I lke about this course is the views you get from some of the elevated areas along the way. This, and the Chateau course, are truly two of the prettiest layouts around. A wonderful place to come to, not just to satisfy that itch for golf, but to calm the soul.
Every single bunker needs work, badly. Greens have seen better days too.
Every single bunker needs work, badly. Greens have seen better days too and no one seems to know how to fix a divot. Save your money and either play the Chateau course or go somewhere else. Was extremely disappointed.
wonderful for the price
very nice course, will definitely play it again. and will bring a group
Great experience
My uncle treated me to two rounds of golf last week while I was on my honeymoon. (My wife went shopping with my aunt) We played both of the public courses at this fine golf resort, and I enjoyed both of them.
The Woodlands course was good to me, but I played well and kept the ball in the fairway. I was rewarded accordingly. My playing partners sprayed the ball all over, and were penalized severely. If you miss a fairway on this course, just hit another golf ball because there is a good chance you won't find your first one.
The bunkers did not have a lot of sand in them, but they were all the same, and played consistent, so I had no complaints about this issue. The holes were scenic, and enjoyable to play. I hope to play it again next year when I come for another visit.
Course in great shape
Always a pleasure to play. Greens in very good shape. Even with all the rain lately the course has great positive drainage. Staff always friendly. All around another great experience at chateau élan.
Wonderful course in great condition.
Golf staff very friendly and helpful. Course was in great shape. Not crowded. Would go back and play.
one of my favorite places to play
course was in great shape and the only reason I didn't rate it pristine was because a couple of greens were roughed up
Very good condition.
Staff is always very friendly whether playing
or using the excellent practice facilities.
good place
been playing at chateau for years. course was in good shape after all the rain. bunkers were in rough shape, but i was told there were doing away with a few of them. most had standing water in them. greens rolled good. overall the grass was in good condition. people need to repair their ball marks. i repaired at least 3 on every green.
15th hole designed by a moron
15th needs (woodland) second cart path or a redesign, hit a good shot and hike 300 extra yards for your trouble.
