Cherokee Run Golf Club
About
Nestled amongst the gently rolling hills of Rockdale County, Cherokee Run Golf Club lies within the Georgia International Horse Park. Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay designed the course. Occupied for centuries by the Cherokee Indians, dozens of arrowheads were found in the Georgian red clay as the golf course was being built. The beautiful landscape is covered in granite outcroppings, native wetlands, and dense hardwood forests. The towering trees line the fairways and the steep inclines throughout the course provide fast, undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on six holes at Cherokee Run Golf Club and there are nearly 100 strategically placed bunkers. The course's signature hole is the par-3 third. This challenging hole demands an accurate tee shot in order to safely make it past the sand bunkers that border both sides of the fairway.

Great layout
One of the premier golf courses in Georgia. Tough layout. Forces you to hit all the shots. Fast greens year round. Love this track

An Arnold Palmer challenger.
Cherokee Run is a course that has lots of rolling hills and will challenge you. If you hit the ball well you can score well but it is very unforgiving for errant shots. It’s a great course and a great value.

nice place
One of my favorite courses. The greens were in great shape and the traps were well conditioned and immaculate.
It is rough around the edges, but I like that they spend their money on the greens and course maintenance
The zoysia fairways are always a treat

Hated this course. Cancelled a tee time two days later.
I hated Cherokee Run and cancelled tee times I had two days later. First of all, two of the cups had significant damage on them. I missed a par putt on #6 because the lip of the cup was sticking up out of the ground. On #16, a buddy missed a putt because of the same issue.
The par 5s on the front, #s 3 and 8 are complete jokes. Forced carries to the green on par 5s make it nearly impossible for the average golfer to go to the green in two. #3 requires one shot for the approach, a high fade, if you want any chance of holding that small, shallow green. Add a forced carry to the mix, you have a very unfair hole.
My friends found #8 to be an insult to the game of golf - you HAVE TO hit a draw off the tee, otherwise you're left with a layup of less than 100 yards OR go for the second landing area with a forced carry of $175+. For an amateur golfer, that's not a fun hole.
I think this would be better off as a private course. I visited Cherokee Run during a golf trip in which none of us had played the course, and we were well off the pace, even as we were playing a 2-man scramble. We constantly felt like we were in the way of the course's regular players, many of whom were not nice to us as we were trying to figure out how to play the course.
That said, it's a beautiful course and the staff was nice. The practice facility was above average. However, I'll never play here again, nor will I recommend it to anyone.

Cherokee Run is worth the drive from Atlanta.
The course offers a diverse mix of holes requiring bombs with wide open fairways and those which necessitate pinpoint precision. I enjoyed the variety and was thankful for the advice sheet which the course handed out before I teed off. Definitely ask for their guidance and be sure to follow their tips, particularly on the greens which were extremely penal if you were above the hole.
All of the staff members were extremely welcoming and friendly. They even let my girlfriend play with only a handful of her clubs, rather than requiring an entire set. Given we’d traveled all the way from Chicago, I appreciated their Southern Hospitality in letting us travel with just one bag of clubs.
My lone recommendation would be to deploy a ranger to improve pace of play. On the day we visited, our front 9 was extremely slow due to a few troublesome groups. Thankfully they stopped after 9. As a result, our experience on the back 9 improved tremendously.
Would certainly return the next time I’m in Atlanta.

Nice course, Nice people
Played Cherokee Run for the first time. My friends and I loved it. We were greeted by friendly smiles in the Pro Shop and bar/grill.
We will definitely be back.
Thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Cherokee Run Golf Club.
Challenging Course
Many holes. specially on the front nine, require the golfer to hit targets both for direction and distance. If you spray shots bring extra balls, as the course is tree lined for the most part. Pay attention to the slopes of the fairways as a good shot can quickly find trouble by following the slope.
Hi, thank you so much for the five stars! We appreciate your feedback, and look forward to seeing you again soon.
