Cherokee Run Golf Club
About
Nestled amongst the gently rolling hills of Rockdale County, Cherokee Run Golf Club lies within the Georgia International Horse Park. Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay designed the course. Occupied for centuries by the Cherokee Indians, dozens of arrowheads were found in the Georgian red clay as the golf course was being built. The beautiful landscape is covered in granite outcroppings, native wetlands, and dense hardwood forests. The towering trees line the fairways and the steep inclines throughout the course provide fast, undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on six holes at Cherokee Run Golf Club and there are nearly 100 strategically placed bunkers. The course's signature hole is the par-3 third. This challenging hole demands an accurate tee shot in order to safely make it past the sand bunkers that border both sides of the fairway.

Well Maintained Course
I played this course for the first time and I was very impressed. The fairways were in excellent condition, as well as the greens. This course offers a lot of challenges for the beginner to the intermediate player,. Nothing is just a gimme.
This the best maintained course I have played on this year and it is still early in the season.
Worth the drive (From ATL)
Cherokee Run blows away nearly every metro-ATL public course. It is a bit longer drive unless you live on the south side of the city, but it is absolutely worth the drive. This course is very difficult.
A list of things I love about Cherokee Run
1. Far away from anything considered busy
2. Old Olympic horse grounds create a beautiful scenery on the way in and while playing
3. Course conditions are incredible for a public course
4. Greens and bunkers are in great condition
5. The range is big enough, there are chipping and bunker greens, putting green is nearly the same role as the course greens
6. The course offers a great mix of open fairways with doglegs requiring layups or shaped shots
7. GPS on the carts (very important for blind shots)
8. THE VALUE FOR THE MONEY IS TOP NOTCH!!!
A few things I don't like about Cherokee Run
1. It is decently far if you live in Midtown or north of there
2. The driving range could be manicured better
3. Clubhouse gets the job done but nothing special
4. A ball in the woods is rarely worth checking for. It's safe to say that GA is known for poison ivy and a few venomous snakes. (Best not to venture too far in the brush. Take your medicine if your ball appears lost)
Overall this course is a MUST PLAY for Intermediate and Above-Average golfers in metro-ATL. This is not a "shank the ball around" type of course. For your own sake and the sake of those playing behind you, do not bring your children here and play up a set of tees if you are not confident.
Hi Jarred, thank you for the five stars! We are so happy that you consider making the trip out here worth it and enjoyed playing Cherokee Run Golf Club. Thanks for stopping by, and we can't wait to see you again soon.
The Bells and Whistles
The course was fairly difficult for a newer golfer like myself but I managed. Some of the Par 3s are so far that I couldn’t manage to Birdie if I tried. But the Par4s and 5s were nice and I even managed to birdie the 8 that everyone seems to hate based on these reviews. (I’m a lefty so I sliced a little and it it played perfect). I really liked the extra amenities though. On one side of the golf cart we had a cooler for our drinks and the other side had a ball wash and a place to wash your irons. Right above the windshield you had a gps touchscreen monitor. The monitor allows you to see where you are on the course so you don’t get lost and as you approach a hole the information for that hole appears. It has GPS on the other carts as well and they show up on your map to ensure you have clearance to tee off. You can touch the screen to mark on the hole map and it will tell you the distance from where you’re at and distance from the hole with that shot. This allows you to easily plan out your approach before you even tee off. I really enjoyed it and will be back again soon.
Hi, thank you for your five-star review! We are thrilled to hear that you had an enjoyable golfing experience and loved our GPS in our carts. We appreciate your detailed feedback, and can't wait to see you again soon. #cherokeerungolfclub #conyersgolf
Fantastic
Course is in phenomenal condition. Best greens I’ve played on in years. Hard, fun layout. Par 5s are a bit gimmicky, but still fun. Definitely worth the money.
Hi, thank you for the five stars! We are happy to hear that you found Cherokee Run Golf Club in excellent shape and enjoyed the layout. We'll see you again soon! #cherokeerungolfclub
Pace of play kills the course!!!!
Beautifully manicured course from tee to green but the pace of play is so slow it overrides the beauty of the course which is sad. If something could be done about that, this would be one of the best courses in Georgia!!!!
Hi Johnny, thank you for the three stars and your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your round of golf was slowed down by the pace of play. We hope that you will consider returning in the future!
Just so slow
I have played here 20 times now; it’s 45 minutes from Atl and 45 minute wait between 9 and 10th hole. They do not marshal well, senior golfers, hackers, just does not move. I like the course and great shape. Just not worth the drive and wait
Hi, thank you for your four-star review and detailed feedback. We have taken this into account and we hope that you will consider returning in the future.
Great course!
This was my first time playing this course. I’ve heard good things about it and it lived up to expectations. Nice driving range and practice area. .The greens where in great shape and consistent in their speed. Nicest course I’ve played this year. The pace of play was perfect. Will definitely be back to play again soon even though it’s an hour drive from where I live.

Cherokee run is in great shape
Friendly, helpful staff, we played it on the way to the Masters again this year. Must do central Georgia delight and great value for the fee, which included a hat, large photo printed golf towel and lunch at the turn.
Much better conditioning than past years, it’s a delight, especially the intriguing back 9, with lots of elevation change and great risk/reward choices off the tees.
We are going back Monday!

Wonderful Par 3s ... Silly Par 5s
I usually like Arnold Palmer designed courses. He provides a mix of holes that can be challenging but fair. He often has a good mix of very wide to somewhat wide fairways - nothing pencil thin and tight. 5 sets of tees also allow you to play to your handicap with a slope from 143 to 122 and yardage from 5286 to 7016.
I had some issues with the par 5 hoes. They are silly in their design. On the par 5 14th, the hole has a fairly straight routing but from the tee you see a large landing area carved out on the right side giving slicers (most mid-high handicappers) ample landing to still hit the fairway. But this is the only par 5 on the course I enjoyed. The 8th hole requires a drive of less than 220 or you run into water. I like to play 5-pars with a driver and let it rip. Teeing it to a target isn't fun for me.
Then if you played your tees shot too safe from the tee (I did), you'll need another 210+ to carry the water onto a smallish landing area. You really need to know your yardages for the 1st and 2nd shot to play this hole well. The 18th is another design of silliness. Imagine the letter "J". You tee from the the top of the letter and make a sharp right turn to a very small green. You are almost as far from the green after you tee shot as you need to hit your second but high rough and a water hazard guard the tee from the front and the side route.
The par 3 holes are what made the round enjoyable and favorably memorable. The par 3 12th (not loo long at 150 when I played) is a gem with deep bunkers guarding the right side of the green (again, slicers and blockers beware). I have a picture of that hole to give you an idea.
Don't get me wrong, this is a well-maintained course and worth the play but I was disappointed based on my experiences with Palmer courses. I know the design needs to follow the landscape and terrain but some of the choices seem out of character and unusual.
Hi Jay, thank you so much for your four-star review! We are glad that you enjoyed our Arnold Palmer designed course. We appreciate your feedback, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Wonderful round
First time to this course. What a magnificent course. Great practice facility as well as restaurant/bar area. The course was in great shape. They have zoysia fairways which were in perfect condition. The greens were the fastest I have putted on in a long time. If you are on the wrong side of the hole its an adventure. The par 5's were almost all reachable in two with a good drive. I missed several greens and was able to putt due to the grass around the greens cut so low. That helped due to the speed of the greens. Really nice par 3's also. Some long some average length. I will definitely come back to this place. About an hour from the Marietta area.

The Run
The perfect spring day at Cherokee Run! Sunny and 70 degrees with a slight breeze. A great round with three buddies in perfect conditions. You won’t find another course in the area this time of year better conditioned than this track. A challenging but fair test awaits you at all times. Greens are slick, fairways are greening up nice, and the bunkers are improved over past visits. Shot placement off the tee is advised and the gps carts are certainly helpful for accuracy. You must leave approach shots below the hole out here or a difficult two putt remains. The driving range is sufficient with a short game area and a practice putting green. The pro shop and grill are staffed with courteous and helpful employees. A must play!

Great course layout
Played the course for the first time ever today and it did not disappoint!! Great course layout and conditions considering the shape of many of the other courses in Alabama/Georgia from the winter. The greens rolled fast and true, and the pace of play was great. I played 18 as a single in under 3 hrs. The only complaint I have is the rude woman working in the grill who acted like I was intruding by trying to order food. Her actions alone ruined what would have been an overall 5 star experience.
Regarding your second comment, please reach out to tommy.moon@conyersga.gov so we can get to the bottom of this. We are sorry that you had this kind of experience.
