Cottonwood Golf Club - Ivanhoe Course

This was a great place to test the whole bag. Had lots of fun and will be back!

First the good news. Only the Ivanhoe course remains.But thanks to the hard working grounds crew, it is as good as been in the ten years i have played here off and on.The greens rolled true and the fairways and rough are very green and well kept.Thank you. The bad news, no pro shop,no starter, no cart girl, no restaurant, slowest carts in the world. The building is run down,needs repairs and paint.The Lake course is gone to weeds and is now closed. Cottonwood has been here many years and it a shame what has happened.The food was as good as anywhere, and just a fun place.

Just some paint and clean up would give this old horse some of it's dignity back.

It’s a nice flat course and green. That was nice but no difficulty and playing the course with nothing really to challenge you but yourself is ok I guess. Overall worth the price per round.

Good greens and looks like they are doing the upmost to keep fairways in great playing conditions. Added bonus with having a starter back in place.

WOW what a surprise Cottonwood has become. This used to be known as one of the worst courses in SD, but after playing it yesterday I am blown away my the green (yes) green fairways. I play golf twice a week, and Ivanhoe easily has some of the greenest in SD at this time. There are even a couple of holes where you can see over to the highly rated Steel Canyon, and see that Cottonwood is in far better shape for how green the fairways are.

The clubhouse is a more than a little run down, but hey you are only checking in there. Carts a little dated and slow, but did the trick. If you hit the ball off the fairways right or left be careful getting to your ball could be a little bumpy. A lot of potholes out there.

Cart girl comes around often and has the best attitude i have seen in a cart girl in the past 8 years of playing golf. Look for hot deals and underpars where you can get a good deal.

Course is great for beginners. Very redeeming fairways and no crazy OB areas. Front desk staff was not the friendliest but the cart girl was phenomenal. There’s also not many hazards which made it a plus for me(less lost balls). There weren’t many whiz bang features about the course but it’s great if you want a cheap course for a very fair price. Conveniently located for Rancho/Jamul/El Cajon residents.

This course was ragged when I played last summer, and I thought $25 would be reasonable as a play fee then. But due to the recent rain, the fairway is surprisingly lush green now and it made every shot easier and comfortable on the fairway today, I hope the course will maintain the current condition through the summer. One thing I was dispirited was that it started to rain heavily before the noon, but the course refused to give me a rain check.

I paid $20 for 18 with cart. Greens are in good shape and are good speed. Even at the reg $35 rate it’s still a great deal. Solid course.

The driving range was in very poor repair, and they no longer have a pro shop.

The course was OK. The coupon deal (two play for $40 with a cart) made it a good deal.

Somee of the womens tee Boxes (i.e. 10, 16, 18) need to be graded flat. There is very little space to stand in a flat area when addressing the ball. Wouldn't take much to grade flat. Fairway 2 has large areas of dirt... would be nice to repair.

A recommendation to avoid and rid course of wet areas, deep track on the dirt cart paths...............use bark spread out. Another course I used to play every week, use bark . It absords wet and moisture, a very good maintenance fix to dirt cart paths.

....play multiple clubs off the tee to creative approaches up and down in elevation to great great complexes..

Have this played this over the last ten years.What was old but decent Club has fallen on bad times.The Lakes course closed a few years ago nothing but weeds.Th pro shop is just a counter in the once very good restaurant,which is now gone.No starter,slowest carts in the world.The Ivanhoe course is playable and trying to make a come back.But what I understand is the ownership does just enough to keep operating.To me it is almost disrespectful to the game to have a place that once offered a fun golf experience. With a little TLC ie ball washers,yardage markers sand in the bunkers without rocks and paint could bring some pride back to this historic place.

The course is in OK shape. The greens were very slow and in only moderately good conditions. The price is very reasonable and you get what you pay for.
