Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.

The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.

Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.

A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Greens were fast and rock hard

Played at 640am. Course is in fantastic shape. I had approach shots bounce twice and roll right off the back. Was a only able to stop a handful of shots to the green. Probably the fastest greens I’ve played on here as well. Last time I’m played was like 14 years ago. Wish I could have played again to make up for my mistakes. Love this course.

Really Fun Experience

I've never had the pleasure of playing Pebble Beach, though it's definitely an aspirational goal of mine. In the meantime, I've heard Pacific Grove is a more attainable experience. Playing courses in the South Bay and East Bay, I've dealt with wind, but nothing like this :)

The front 9 as you see in other reviews is fun but doesn't stand out. Only until you hit the back 9 is when things get wacky. Though it was cloudy, being right by the ocean was something to see. Can't beat the views. However, the wind was something that I've never dealt with. I pured several of my irons, but the yardage was short by usually 1-2 clubs. It was funny to see balls that were hit so cleanly, it just dropped out of the air. It definitely added another element. All in all, it's a good time and I definitely recommend it. Everyone was super nice starting from the folks in the pro-shop to the cart wranglers. Definitely look forward to playing again.

Every day man's Pebble Beach

Pacific Grove continues to be a fantastic golf option. The back 9 along the Pacific Ocean is unequalled for a municipal golf course. The coastal wind adds to the challenge of the Links. The lighthouse is a great added visual and historic bonus. The front 9 wanders amongst a residential neighborhood with well planned holes. I recommend PG to anyone living in the Monterey area or any visitor to Pebble Beach or other incredible courses on the Peninsula. It's a great way to get used to the breeze and climate of the region inexpensively and get warmed up for other rounds. It's historic and memorable in its own right.

Go early

This course is very popular but seems to be less busy the earlier you go. Also got a factor in the wind picking up the later it gets in the day. Good times. Challenging.

Poor Man’s Pebble Beach

This course has a pretty ordinary looking front 9 with small tricky greens and wide fairways with real sand in the bunkers !! No rakes yet but soon enough they will ! The par 5’s are long but very manageable . The back 9 is totally different and breathtaking !! If I could’ve played the back 9 twice I would’ve ! It’s a fun course and the flags you can go for rather easily ,. If you haven’t played on the coast before and used to playing in the Midwest then you have to adjust quick !! Great staff , very courteous and friendly and they know how to take care of out of town folks
