Holes 18
Type Public
Style Parkland/Links
Par 70
Length 5727 yards
Slope 113
Rating 67.9

Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.

The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.

Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.

A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Course in good shape from tee to green..views on the back nine makes you regret having to play the front nine..no bathroom on the back until 17th..driving range mats & balls from the 1980’s...played twice in a week on hot deals & enjoyed this course for the price.

greens and fairways

some greens were bumpy and some fairways not much grass. A little cold and cloudy but otherwise an enjoyable round. If the sun was out it would have been a great day.

Pebble for the poor man

You simply cannot ask for a more challenging course than this beauty. Greens are true link style small. The par 3’s will smack you around. The back 9 are photo backdrops, so be ready to get the camera out when you can!

Good time.

It is touted as the poor mans Pebble Beach. True to its name. Front nine was very so-so but back nine is nice and the views are spectacular. For the money it is a great round of golf. As a bonus the staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Amazing round!

What a nice way to spend a spectacular sunny day than on the edge of the Monterey Bay. No wind, sunshine and lots of happy folks on the course. The course was challenging and in great shape! ❤️

Fantastic value!!!

Love this course! For the area it is an extremely great value. The back 9 is along has beautiful ocean views, that are stunning. It is a muni course so it's not pristine like Pebble Beach and it is in good shape. Lots of character. I always recommend this course to me friends.

Terrific value in a beautiful, serene setting.

Just as advertised. Skirted some showers but stayed mostly dry throughout. The rain scared away my partners so I cruised thru solo in just 3.5 hrs. Front nine runs thru beautiful forest teeming with families of deer that will walk right up to you. Back nine loaded with beautiful ocean vistas and quite a lot of sand. Easy layout & fun all around. Highly recommend.

Great Value

I didn't want to hassle with getting on any of the famous courses in the area. I did want to golf though while on vacation, so I booked a round here because it was close to where we were staying and had costal views.

Staff was so friendly and helpful, the course was in excellent shape and the views were awesome. Even the front 9 was cool seeing all the deer.

Poor Man’s Pebble is a Delight

Few muni courses make it on to golfers’ travel lists, but PG did not disappoint. Recently spent a week in Monterey visiting family and PG may have been the most fun I had during my rounds. I played Bayonet, Pasatiempo, The Preserve Golf Club, and the Ocean Course at MPCC during my Monterey trip, and while PG can’t compete in terms of conditioning or design, the quirks and location at the price point are hard to beat. What other course will you start with two Par-3s, two Par-4s then two Par-5s?

But as much as the front nine is a prototypical parkland muni, the back nine is a whole different creature. Playing between the dunes on the coast was a blast and half the fun of PG is getting paired with people who love public golf as much as you do. Don’t sleep on PG, it’s a fun muni where score and conditions are an afterthought.

Course was not is good condition. Staff were not friendly. Other than the nice views on the back nine I would pass on this one. Way to expensive for a Muni course that is not up to par. Club rentals were $50 per person. Waited on almost every hole.

I suggest you drop several hundred dollars on Pebble or Spyglass. Or perhaps you can take up mini-golf.
