Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.

The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.

Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.

A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Great Value

I didn't want to hassle with getting on any of the famous courses in the area. I did want to golf though while on vacation, so I booked a round here because it was close to where we were staying and had costal views.

Staff was so friendly and helpful, the course was in excellent shape and the views were awesome. Even the front 9 was cool seeing all the deer.

Poor Man’s Pebble is a Delight

Few muni courses make it on to golfers’ travel lists, but PG did not disappoint. Recently spent a week in Monterey visiting family and PG may have been the most fun I had during my rounds. I played Bayonet, Pasatiempo, The Preserve Golf Club, and the Ocean Course at MPCC during my Monterey trip, and while PG can’t compete in terms of conditioning or design, the quirks and location at the price point are hard to beat. What other course will you start with two Par-3s, two Par-4s then two Par-5s?

But as much as the front nine is a prototypical parkland muni, the back nine is a whole different creature. Playing between the dunes on the coast was a blast and half the fun of PG is getting paired with people who love public golf as much as you do. Don’t sleep on PG, it’s a fun muni where score and conditions are an afterthought.

Course was not is good condition. Staff were not friendly. Other than the nice views on the back nine I would pass on this one. Way to expensive for a Muni course that is not up to par. Club rentals were $50 per person. Waited on almost every hole.

I suggest you drop several hundred dollars on Pebble or Spyglass. Or perhaps you can take up mini-golf.

Average Course for the money.

The pace of play during our round was awful. The staff allowed far too many golfers on the back 9 where there were 2 groups waiting on every tee. No course marshals were out to monitor the pace of play. Great views but average course. Decent value considering the cost of other courses in the vicinity.

Hidden Gem

This is a beautiful course surrounded by the amazing coastline of Pacific Grove. The back nine has spectacular views. The course is not the most challenging or longest, but is fun to play no matter your skill level.

Great first experience!

This was my first time playing here, and it was well worth getting up early for and the money. Staff was awesome and they allowed my 4 year old son to ride with me. Very cool course with great ocean views all throughout the back nine. Tee’d off at 6:30 behind 4 groups of walkers, who literally flew around the course. After 2nd hole we never saw them again. Definitely will be making return trips.

Great Value and Views!

Two dramatically different 9s. Back nine offers excellent views of ocean on several holes. Good break from the other PB courses we played. My wife, a novice, loved PG.

A must-play

This course was recommended to me by traveling support staff for the PGA TOUR. It is a great Pebble value and has fantastic views. The staff was friendly and down to earth. We saw deer who didn't spook, and everyone knows how fantastic the ocean views are. I felt like I was playing in the 1970's. It's just a very relaxing and enjoyable place. Go play!
