Rating 67.9

Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.

The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.

Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.

A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Beautiful Ocean views

We play this course each time we come to the area. The views of the tree lined front 9 and ocean view on back 9 are beautiful.

A Tale of Two Nines

An excellent value for the cost. Par 70 and less than 6,000 yards from the back tees. Front nine is okay but I have never played a course that starts with two par 3’s. Back to Back par 5’s on this nine too. The back nine has many holes along the water and an overall better layout. Reminded me of courses you might fcome across in Scotland or Ireland.

Amazing Experience

Flew all the way from Texas to get the Monterrey-Carmel-Pacific Grove experience and was not disappointed. I was definitely not going to pony up hundreds of dollars to play Pebble, so I settled for this course, the poor man's Pebble and had one of the most memorable experiences of golf in my life. I was paired up with a local, Neo, who knew the course to perfection, and a couple who visited from San Diego. The course was in excellent condition, bright green, and well kept. The back 9 holes were breath taking. The course, although it seemed short, was challenging, but perfect for me since I'm not a long hitter. It was so pleasing to the eye, that it made me play better. Hands down I recommend this course for the views, the price and the experience.

Ocean view

They call Pacific Grove the poor man’s Pebble and they’re right. The back nine is totally different than the front nine with with ocean views and a links feel on almost every hole. I would recommend this course to anyone.

Always a treat

We play here often (weekly) and this time took friends. Only black eye was lack of riding carts when we checked in for noon-ish tee time. There was a tournament that AM apparently, so that explains the low cart levels. Weather was typical Monterey peninsula weather; foggy, breezy and cool. Good staff at PGGL; lunch was good as well.

Play Pacific Grove

The young man who checked me in gave me a $6 discount on green fees because the threesome that I joined had a better rate than I received from Golfnow.

Course conditions were very good.

The weather was perfect (July in Monterey).

The course is infested with deer; I had a short conversation with a buck on a green on the back before he decided I was boring.

Make sure you look around the pro shop for goodies to remember your visit; better than some of the other higher priced courses on the peninsula.

It was a fun round, relaxing, a course that keeps your attention, and of course amid beautiful surroundings.

This course, along with the Mexican food in Seaside, the seafood in Monterey, and the breakfast at Bayonet/Blackhorse, makes me almost consider a move.

Had fun

Overall great value with the exception of the cost for club rental. $50 for a set is a bit steep. Besides that we had a great day with awesome weather. Couldn't have asked for much more

2 Games

This course was excellent! Actually it was playing 2 totally different houses. The front was a typical golf course setting. But, once you made the turn it was a links type course set on the oceanfront, just gorgeous! Greens were absolutely perfect.

Best value on the Monterey Peninsula

From check in to the 19th hole our experience was absolutely wonderful.

We started with breakfast at the grill and then we played our round in about three hours and 15 minutes. The greens were immaculate and the rest the course was in very good shape.

When you play at Pacific Grove golf links, you get pebble beach views for muni course prices.
