Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.

The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.

Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.

A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Fun Course

We had a great time on a trip to Pacific Grove. Nice pace and good course with views of nature, deer and the ocean. Foggy most of the day, but the sun came out to enjoy a summer golf day.

I've played this course many times and it is always a challenge - the course layout is so beautiful, with the views of the Pacific on the back nine, even if you're not hitting the ball perfectly, you will still enjoy the scenery. Weather can be iffy, but most days I've been there, the sun came out.

Good Course & Great Views

I don't know why I don't play here more often. This is a great course. Obviously the ocean views are excellent (make sure to sneak some looks in on the front nine too). Greens are awesome right now. Soft and receptive to holding pitch shots and rolling perfect. I was paired up with a guy from Denver and he said he's never seen such great greens at this low of a price.

Pace of play is a little on the slow side for a shorter course but nothing extreme. Customer service is excellent. There's something relaxing about PG that I can't explain. I think it has something to do with the great course at such a reasonable price. It just puts you in a stress free mood.

I'm definitely gonna start including this on my regular rotation

Foggy Day at Pacific Grove

Short, tight layout but challenging in the fog and wind. Enjoyed back nine better than front. Played with a couple that knew the course well- saved us on several holes from hitting into trouble.

Great Muni

Gold course was in excellent condition. Played a little longer than the yardage due to wind and cool climate. Play was a ltlle slow on Sunday (4.75 hrs) but we breezed through on Monday (less than 3 hrs). Greens smooth and tricky, bunkers had great sand (when raked) overall a great experience!

Favorite Course

It is like playing two different courses in one course. The front 9 has trees and feels like you are playing in a forest at times; the back 9 is all links golf. I love this course each time I get to play it.

The staff is fantastic, the course is always in great shape, and the views are spectacular.

Playing Pacific Grove is always a treat no matter the time of day or the weather conditions.

Great value

The PG Golf Links staff was very friendly and helpful. Course fairways were a little rough but greens were OK. Can't beat the views in the back. Had a great lunch at the restaurant.

Deer, Whales, oh my!

If you're looking for a manicured course you may want to pass but still a must play. Pace was a little slow but at the same time I really did not want the round to fly by. Front 9 was ehhh but turn was amazing. Views are incredible, deer roaming about even had two whale sightings. Greens were in great shape and will definitely come back!

Great Course!

2nd time playing Black Horse. This is an absolute gem! Fairways are cut tight and beautifully green. The traps are white as flour. The greens are fast and true. There isn't a flat green on the course; lots of tiers and undulations. If you miss in the wrong spot you will pay! This course is as good as you'll find on the Monterey Peninsula. You won't be disappointed

6 of the best old time holes in Golf

Holes 11 through 16 make you feel like you're playing in Scotland on a British Open links course!!!

These six holes make playing here worth every minute being on their course. These six holes are a hidden Gem!!!

The rest of the Pacific Grove golf course are completely FORGETABLE. HOLES 1 thru 9 of the course is not in good shape. They wind through a terrible layout on a housing track through Pacific Grove, CA. The first nine holes are terrible! You start the course with two par 3's.

The only reason for playing the front nine is so that you can get to the back nine, Hloles 11 thru 16!!!!!!

The last hole on the course is also a reminder of the first nine holes. It is a terrible hole after just playing some of the most beautiful and fun holes in all of golf on the West Coast of California.

I would recommend this course ONLY so you can play holes 11 through 16. These six holes are wonderful AND WILL MAKE YOUR time on this course worth it. It's too bad they haven't taken the time to beautify the rest of the course.
